29y Female Aussie here I just stumbled on this when I looking up A.C.T content to find some help to with my OCD. It’s really difficult to challenge OCD when what’s feels to be your self inflicted circumstances don’t reflect the person you want to. It’s so accurate that OCD uses your values, how you see yourself, against you. The shame is undoing. Incredible to hear someone get to a place where it isn’t in control of their life. My OCD is also very flexible but sticks to targeting my values and character. It’s feels like the avoidance has been eroding who I am for years. And yet, that person is still there and will one day win. I wonder if it’s a common experience for similar OCD sufferers to have some sort of child/adolescent experience that makes them question their morality/culpability, their goodness. I had a childhood and late adolescent experience that did this and it sounds like your friends passing did this too
Hi, thanks for watching! That's a really interesting perspective. Hopefully there's some solace in solidarity and knowing it's possible for things to improve. Maybe some of what's helped Matt get to the place he's at now could help you too.
