You want that oil separator. It keeps oil from the airbox on all big bore Hondas. The smog canister was only on California Xls. The oil separator is for all years and is required for proper function. I had to get one for mine and it ran better instantly.
+blancolirio I hope you still have it! How is she running? Mine is still going strong. Doing brakes on it now rebuilding the forks. Trouble comes in pairs
@@Feosnakejust new O-rings? Check Rocky Mountain Atv/Mc in the OEM parts catalogs. If they don’t have them, copy the part numbers. Worst case maybe you can find the o-ring sizes that way and order just that size. Hope this helps
Just bought a non running 85. Cleaned the carbs and it runs well at low rpm, but seems to stall when second carb starts opening. Was hoping I wouldn’t have to take the carbs off twice, what a pain.
Nick Crye you can do it Nick!! Lol mine didn’t run and I was worried it wouldn’t run, but did carb cleaning and found the bowls were wrong so there was no choke(left bowl is different from right) but now that it’s spotless inside I’ve created a fuel leak-_- it overflows so gotta remove it again and adjust the float level
When you remove the throttle cables did you take the nut off the bracket that holds the two cables in place and just remove that bracket and the cables together or did you try to get the cables out by there self . I had an XL 600 years ago if I remember I just took that whole bracket off but it was a bitch getting back together I just picked up another XL 600 and the carburetors need to be cleaned out thank you
Yours sounds so much quieter than mine, I’ve got an 85 XL600R. Did you do any internal engine work on the valves or timing chain? I can post a video on my TH-cam if you would have the change to give me some input. Thank you and im giving thumbs up and sub! Great guides my friend!
I’ve cleaned mine and rebuilt but I can’t get it to open full throttle. At about 2/3 throttle it bogs out. Pretty sure it’s when the secondary carb come in. Any idea?
I need your help, on my '83 ,if you're sitting on the bike,on the left side of the engine, just below the RFVC lettering there's a square shaped cover attached with 5 or 6 hex head bolts...I'm missing the cover. I don't know what that part of the engine is called or what its purpose is. Can you identify it please?

+tcepilot Sold it and the new owner was able to repair the clattering valve train.
Any idea on where you found that rebuild kit for the transfer line?

"About a 3 beer job". I love it!

It takes less than an hour... I don't even have power tools of any kind. Mostly used open ended wrenches. atleast yours goes.

have you found the problem ? having the same issue , thx !
the MAIN information I needed was the removal procedure, which is presumed to be automatic when the proper chant is applied.
"simply reverse assembly procedure" don't you hate that...

How do you get the throttle cables off and on? Remove at handle bars? How to hold open to get cable out?
if you haven't figured it out you loosen the nuts on the throttle cable by the carb and they come out of the mount and you can move it around
Thanks!
Why didn't you clean your lens before starting? Big fuzzy spot in the middle
LeeLewisish yea, I scraped it up riding. got me a new hero3. Crystal clear now...

They were a great year how much are they going for these days looking to buy one?"""
Just bout an 94 xl600 today for $2700 it's California plated . Pretty clean bike
How much are they asking for them these days?
Where did you find your owners manual? I've been trying to find one for my '86 but haven't had much luck.
The folks at the Honda shop had an a old manual. I made copies of the schematic.
Big time gap from the left carb to back on the bike where you showed nothing that I wanted to see for the R carb. Bummer
👍
That's not smog.... It's the oil separator
tcepilot true, mine has the smog canister and it’s a steel barrel that sits just under the carbs, takings up all of that free space there
Leaky leaky lol
