This is so mind opener in several ways you have no idea. This finally took me out of the confusion and intimidating zone. I've learned as much in 1h30 as in x years.
Now i can finger drum other things than kick snare hat without brainstorming like a jerk.
The only thing that is still confusing is the difference between kits. Some have only 8 percussions, some don't have this or this type of perc etc. But now i way better see how they're usually mapped, as i've tried a bunch of them while following you, and they respect the same scheme. I guess we just have to dig each one and learn its specificities.
Usually, i keep this for women, but i love you ;D So many thanks and respect Paolo.

@@themooz4118 The drums in this video come from the Roland expansion board "SRX-01", which is contained in a Roland XV-5080 module; the module's MIDI In connects to an M-Audio MIDI-to-USB interface that goes to a computer running Cubase (DAW). The Novation USB goes to the computer as well. In the DAW MIDI track, the Novation USB MIDI is selected as MIDI In, and the M-Audio interface as MIDI Out. In your case, it's simpler because you don't have the external hardware gear. Just select your KeyStep as MIDI In, and whichever drum instrument you pick in Ableton as your MIDI Out

I really loved that you went over many genres, Paolo. Highly interesting content as always! I'm really curious about how to play bachata properly. I've figured out that kind of Romeo Santos roll: it seems that you just go over the first three or four notes chromatically starting from bongos. After that I just mess around, though 😂.

Great vid, and so many ways to learn drumming, still wondering if I should pick keyboard drumming, finger drumming, electronic drum kit, sample pad etc. Wanting to get better at rhythm skills to improve my sax playing. Any guidance on which one of these drumming methods will best help improve rhythm feel for someone who is struggling?

    • @SynthManiaDotCom

Kinda crappy I know but I never could get those guys to play their parts without being sloppy. Live was great but the studio left a little to be desired. Im not sure they ever knew the difference when i would give them a copy of what "we" recorded lol.
