TH-cam brought be back here after all these years, I remember sitting down at my kit and breaking this down and learning it. Not on the drums so much these days with the flexibility that life asks for, but always good to think back. cheers Randy.
Omg. I completely understand what you are trying to say - feel the groove. I was just jamming this morning and realized drums are all about making pleasing noises and not just fucking it up everywhere. Btw, I read the notation and can't make it out. When you started playing, I locked it in immediately. Funk groove #2 PLEASE!!
Randy Drum Pattern... that was a bad jocke. In Spanish is funnier. I'm sorry for that. One of the coolest drum lesson I ever watched on youtube. That how music must be taught. Thumbs up
Nice groove! ...And thanks for your patiënce and clear explanation. Greetings from the Netherlands. (So you will know that your videos are still appreciated, even on the other side of the clobe). :-)
You are my drum instructor. I have been self taught up until I found your vids on youtube, and now Ilook forward to trying out whatever you have to show.....except the drop on the drop clutch. I already knew that. To the kit I go to feel whatever groove comes out of this beat. Thanks a lot RVP!!! PS I recommend your channel to my other drummer friends.
The accents in the notation are off, but otherwise, awesome. I dig the addition of the notation though. Really helps with practicing. Love the groove as well. Thanks Vanz
A hot tip: In the book "Advanced Funky Studies" by Rick Latham you will find a chapter with exercises of this kind. Just as the example in the video. (I dare to say that this bar is a copy of Rick's book.) There are also many profound exercises on the subject of linear funky grooves. Advances Funky Studies is a true trunk for drummer who are willing to seriously learn their crafts. '
Hey man, loving the videos, seems so simple once you play it.. but getting the fill to fit is the hard part...any advice for how to get more creative??? Thanks|
You have to Funk us more times Randy :). Very cool lesson. You could do a hip-hop groove from Rick's other book Comtemporary Drumset techniques, they are awesome. ;) PEACE RANDY
Excellent Lesson..you slwed down a little bit and didn't have as much "nervous" chatter. Keep up the good work..the slower and more relaxed you are the more confident and commanding you are of your audience...you definitely have the skills and a good ability to teach..you just need to "project" that to the audience and by taking your time...you do just that. Take Care
@vansdrumming Is there a right or wrong way to holding your stick with your left hand? I noticed that you (and a lot of other drummers) use the "traditional hold" with their left hand and "matched-grip" with their right. Is it just personal preference?
Vince, can you explain the differences stick size makes? i seem to blast better with fatter longer sticks. is that just me or normal? what do you recommend for faster playing?
Here's a suggestion...start off playing just the Bass Drum and Snare Drum Only...break it down one beat at a time if you have to. Also, make sure you aren't hitting your snare too heavily because that will throw you off too. When you get that down, play it with a metronome but set the metronome to the offbeats (ands). Then add the first offbeat on your hi hat, then the second, then the third and finally all four offbeats. Play it slow first then build from there. I hope this helps!
Sir m following u since 2007..big fan of urs sir..🙏
