This made my decision much easier to move forward with, (the indecision of), "should I just spray paint the repair, then blend by cut & polish the rest...or wet sand the whole panel, then primer, paint, clear coat" so yeah, lets do the panel...I felt the whole CLEAR COAT, after the polishing, is really impressive! Good job on the Sawzall shaker.. I've been duct taping my rattle cans to the Sawzall blade to do the same thing, much to the amusement of my friends. Now I can show them that I'm not crazy.... or at least there other people with the same kind of crazy!😅
Looking like glass! Good gravy! Good job, sir. Thank ya for doing this. Been thinking about spray bombing my beetle in pieces and then hitting each with spraymax. Now I know it works, I just might.
@@ACDesignsGarage An ugly bugly 74 standard that I put 66 hood and apron, fenders, and rear decklid and apron, and early t-bars on it to completely de-ugly it. 74s had those big collapsible bumpers and elephant foot tailights. Nasty. I've seen your 66! That's how I found your channel. I took the body off mine and refurbed the pan, new pan halves, discs all around, homemade airbag suspension. Your welding vids helped with that too! I have limited tools and no garage. Backyard boogie kinda thing. I'm about to start the bodywork and paint. So, that's why I've been following your rattle can vids. I painted the pan with turbo primer and turbo gloss black. Super fast but like you said orange peel like a mug. Lol. No biggie for the pan. But if I paint the body with rusto cans, I'd use the 5 in 1 cans and then spraymax. Your vids help me out a lot, man. Keep up the good work.
Yes it would help a ton, I would wet sand with 600 on a block and sand till flat then clear. You wouldn't have to sand near as much when cut and buffing. I would of but I had to make several different videos doing different stages
Good work and the good thing is you save time from taking it to a shop to get painted that can last 6-12 months to get it back good work impressive 💪👍💪
It's held up, I thought it would explode lol, I would do a test pannel first. I put the clear on after it got tacky, kinda like the sticky side of tape and not sticking to your fingers. They say if you let it set you have to wait like a week or so.

Came out awesome! Looks sweet man! As we all know black is the hardest color to clean up and shine without every imperfection showing. I painted my friends Harley black ( in an auto body shop) and had to cut and buff so much to make it shine. Came out like black chrome! You got the same effect with rattle cans lol amazing buddy great work!
I bet that looked awesome, thanks man, I've been custom painting cars for 20 years with spray gins, figured I'd challenge myself hahahaha. Thanks for watching!!!!!

Great work, and you have some awesome skills there my friend.. You def gave me the confidence to shoot my 2002 GMC that I repaired cab corners and one wheel well that I repaired with patch panels.. Since I had worked on both sides of the truck, I just sanded the shit out of the whole truck getting it pretty good and flat for a novice.. Then used the same Rustoleum turbo and 2k clear.. Came out great.. only I found its a ton of work and takes some real skill to properly do the cut and buff.. I decided to take it to my local detailer buddy who has done the ceramic coating and detailing for my cars for years.. He cut and buffed the whole truck in 2 days for $750 bucks.. He said the stuff was great to work with, asked me who painted the truck, I told him it was a turbo spray can and he didn't believe me.. Showed him your videos and he was dumbfounded.. My 2002 GMC looks like a brand new truck now.. My white job was def easier than the black but man I have you to thank for the help and assistance for sure.. Saved me several thousand bucks..!!
here i am learning how to turbo can my car since i just painted my hood white today, i did 1k wet sand but i need ton buff it... also from NC, just stuck here in Spring lake.

I definitely would, alot of out of state people moved in here and look at you funny when you wave at them or open doors for them lol. I thought everyone did that hahahaha!!!
Man, cutting and buffing takes forever manual hand sanding. I feel bad for your back and arms, lol. It's totally worth it though. I'm a beginner and I would never want to do it manual. I'd rather shell out $300 for the big foot any day. Awesome job! What a difference.
Thank you, yeah it's tough. You can do it faster with a DA sander then block by hand the last little bit ,then use the rupes da polisher. I was trying to keep it simple for the beginner. But your right this is the hard way lol.
@@ACDesignsGaragehey bud, I painted my truck exactly how you did this bed, spray max cleared it. Cut it and buffed it and it looks amazing for 2-3 days, then the clear gets foggy or cloudy in some areas. Any ideas on what would cause that?

@@thomasseiter9841 Probably didn't sand/polish correctly. Once the polish came off it went back to cloudy. I bet if you put a wax on it or ceramic coating, it would look great again. Sounds like you didn't buff it right though.
Would like to see a Rustoleum turbo paint job and 2k clear coat, cut and buffed with denim pads to reduce the amount of sanding. Great job with the experiment.
Looks amazing you’re really making this seem a lot easier than it should be lol. Any tips for doing a whole car ? And again i love your work and ur videos inspiring me to try and learn new things with every vid
Thank you very much!!! The sanding is the worst part but the buffing is so rewarding!! If I were to do a whole car I start sanding with the 2000 grit, do the whole car ,then move to the 2500 grit check the whole car then start the m105 finish that then move to the m205. I do the whole car with every process so I don't miss a part of the car. I plan on doing a whole car pretty soon!
That actually came out great. 1st time I painted a car 30 years ago... it was bad bad lol. Was a metallic paint, I put too much hardener in it, shit was coming out like powder from the gun... metallic shit standing on end. Was a big ass 79 Cadillac. The only thing I solved was making it one color hahaha.
What polishes did u use and what compounds looks good have u used butter wax that works miracles on black paint jobs but u my friend did an Amazing job with garage house hold products
Need some help, my friend. Followed all the instructions and everything looks great EXCEPT I've got a 5 inch raggedy line where the new clear and the old clear meet. I used the UPOL Blend #9 when I did the last coat of clear and I thought that got it until I started doing the compounding (it worked perfectly on the other side of the car.) Now I can see the line and the more I fuss with with (wet sanding to try and feather it out, etc.), the worse it looks. Is there a solution for this?
I hope this helps you, did you do a clear blend or did you clear the whole pannel. I have never had any luck clear blend. I only clear whole pannels because they hold up longer because you dont have a thin edge.If you want email me a pic and maybe I can further help acdgmerch@gmail.com
Please let us know how this holds up after some time. My experience is cut and buff on rattle can paints is they start going dull and chalky in a month. I hope this is different! Fantastic video sir!
The other side that I did a video on is just turbo can cutand buffed, this video is turbo can with a 2k clear cut and buffed it still looks awesome after 2 months. The other side that don't have clear did just what you said, after a month it started dulling out .
I would love your help. Im in Australia and I want to put a vy commodore wagon number plate assembly into a vy commodore ute tailgate. I will send some photos. Keep up the good work. Cheers John
I'm impressed with how that paint job came out! My question is with the supplies and effort will it work on fiber class? I have a 1980 Vette that needs a paint job and to get it painted will cost around 15k and up!
Yes it will work, I prep fiber glass the same way I do metal from the primer stage up. If your paint is not chipping you could just wet sand 600 then start spraying!!!
Just wanted to say that this turned out so amazing that i will be going this route myself. Super super impressed, would you recommend only wet sanding for the final polish or would it be okay to dry sand with a sander and some soft paper
Man, that paint looks amazing…real beginner question here, do you ever sand and polish the base before you put the clear coat on it or do you always just cut and buff the final clear coat?
No usually you want the clear to bite into the base. If it's real base coat, after it tacs you shoot your clear on. If your using spray paint it's best to let the spray paint dry then sand it with 600 wet then clear. After the clear dries sand it starting with 1500grit, 2000, 2500 then buff for a perfect shine!!!
You can save yourself a lot of time by wet sanding with an interface pad on the orbital sander with some 1500 hook & loop wet sanding discs then work your way up to 4000 grit foam pads.
Question- you mentioned earlier that if the dust isn't whitish clear, then you have cut into the paint color. But isn't the orange peel in the paint? How does wet sanding the clear you sprayed over the paint correct the orange peel that was in the paint?.
Basically when you have orange peel in the bottom coat, every coat above that has the same texture it just keeps building up. So what I do is put more clear than I need over the orange peel . Use a sanding block and cut it flat. It fills in the low places of the orange peel and cuts off the high places. It's kinda like using body filler over very small dents!!!
Got a question for you , I have a 1967 c10 I turbo painted gloss black about 1 yr ago that has a lot of orange peel . Since then I have buffed it with Maguires ultimate polish . What do I need to do to to prepare it for wet sanding and buffing like the other side you did ?NC here also .. Gastonia
What your gonna want to do is cut it as flat as you can with out cutting through with 1500 grit wet the step up to 2000 wet, then 2500wet then polish. Basically the 1500 cuts it flat then the rest of the sanding is removing the previous sand scratches. It will start to shine at 2500. Hope this helps. I bought my 72 c10 out of Mt Holly.
@@ACDesignsGarage nice mine is a original Gastonia truck bought at smith Chevrolet.. Thanks for the help . Gonna try this this weekend and I’ll reply back how it worked for me . Appreciate it man 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
1000 grit would cut that orange peel down pretty quick. Would just have to use some 1500 grit to smooth out those scratches and start buffing. Would be better to use some 1200 grit before the 1500, but not needed once you have some experience. Good video and good information. I was going to start criticizing your video, for the materials used, but I see now that you do use the good stuff for your customers and you were showing how to do the job with spray cans. Came out really good.
Little un related but since your painting you may know. I used ruatoleum bed coating for the bed but accidentally used on it platic trim and now it doesnt absord regualr paint well. How can i remove the bed coating spray off the plastic trim so i can re spray them with a trim spray paint? Thanks!
If it's thick, you can use a rag and some lacquer thinner and soften it and scrape it off with a plastic squeegee. But try it in a hidden spot if you can to make sure everything is gonna be OK. You can try to wet sand it off with 320 grit if your gonna repaint it if it's hard!

Good job on the Sawzall shaker.. I've been duct taping my rattle cans to the Sawzall blade to do the same thing, much to the amusement of my friends. Now I can show them that I'm not crazy.... or at least there other people with the same kind of crazy!😅
Hahaha I have a few going up on my website this week hopefully
Great video and very instructional you did a great job I think I'm going to follow your steps
Thank you very much hope they help!!!
Looking like glass! Good gravy! Good job, sir. Thank ya for doing this. Been thinking about spray bombing my beetle in pieces and then hitting each with spraymax. Now I know it works, I just might.
Awesome thanks for watching, what year beetle do you have, I have a 66
@@ACDesignsGarage An ugly bugly 74 standard that I put 66 hood and apron, fenders, and rear decklid and apron, and early t-bars on it to completely de-ugly it.
A very soft/fine wire brush works good for removing unwanted cutting compound from the cutting/buffing pads. Turned out really good btw
Thank you for the tip!! Thanks for watching!!!!
Thank you for your excellent presentation. It makes me think that I could repaint my Land Rover Defender
Your welcome, you can do it!!!
I’m 74 and past my sell by date!
Thank you for your video, watching all the way from Adelaide, Australia. cheers
Awesome thank you for the support, its greatly appreciated!!!!
Looking forward to testing out your paint shaker! Ordered!
She's on the way!!!!
You know it’s gonna be good when in the first 30 seconds you hear, “we use the mess outta these things”. Haha. Great video sir👊🏻
Hahaha thank you!!!!!
Thats amazing! Thats SEMA quality.
Thank you!!!!
Can you sand the base coat before putting the clear on? Would that help if base coat is orange peeled or striped? Thanks
Yes it would help a ton, I would wet sand with 600 on a block and sand till flat then clear. You wouldn't have to sand near as much when cut and buffing. I would of but I had to make several different videos doing different stages
Amazing! So what happens if you wash it? Will it remove the polish?
It will probably need a good wax soon!!!
Man I have never seen such a contrasting difference. You are making me want to buff my black hummer 😂
Hahaha do it!!!!
Good work and the good thing is you save time from taking it to a shop to get painted that can last 6-12 months to get it back good work impressive 💪👍💪
Your right and you can control the quality!!! Thank you for watching!!!
That is incredible! I never realized there was a clear you could spray over oil base rustoleum without a chemical reaction. I'm doing this
It's held up, I thought it would explode lol, I would do a test pannel first. I put the clear on after it got tacky, kinda like the sticky side of tape and not sticking to your fingers. They say if you let it set you have to wait like a week or so.
@@ACDesignsGarage you saying the clear needs to go on while the paint is still tacky?
Man I am so grateful that I found your channel. Amazing depth of knowledge and love hearing your stories as well. As far as content, I’d love to see you demonstrate a two color fade. I’m setting up the body in my 90 Silverado and I want to do a ombré fade top to bottom. Thanks for your help brother!
@@ACDesignsGarage hey it shows. Great work!
Further proof that skill matters way more than materials used.
However when excellent skill and excellent materials come together, excellent results are had at most efficient price point.
Thank you very much
Great work, and you have some awesome skills there my friend..
Man thats cool, I bet it looks awesome!!!
Way to go my friend. Looks amazing.
Thank you for the kind words!!!
Great video that turned out really well!
Thank you!!!!
Excellent excellent excellent excellent excellent thank you
Thank you very much!!!!
Backyard Boogie Award Winner 🏆👏 🏅 🔥 Love the Content Bro! 🙏🏽
Same, not a hummer tho ❤️😹
Hahaha thank you!!!!!
here i am learning how to turbo can my car since i just painted my hood white today, i did 1k wet sand but i need ton buff it... also from NC, just stuck here in Spring lake.
If you've already 1k wet sanded jump up to wet 1500 then 2500 then she'll buff easier as long as you have enough paint on it!!!!
@@ACDesignsGarage I just can back from vacation, gonna get to it this weekend. One panel at a time
2006 GTO, 2008 Yukon denali xl and a 2011 Yukon denali xl. That's in my fleet. The GTO parts are getting to be unobtainium 😆 but it was my dream car. Love your videos brother!
Thank you, I always wanted one of those GTOs with a big cam!!!!
Outstanding! Thanks from Australia..
Thank you very much for watching!!!!
Thanks for the video. You seem like the kind of guy who would throw your hand up when driving by. 👋
I definitely would, alot of out of state people moved in here and look at you funny when you wave at them or open doors for them lol. I thought everyone did that hahahaha!!!
Thanks! I want to try it on my old truck.
Awesome !!!
Hey bro. I recently ran across your channel. I've been looking for someone to paint my toyota highlander and you seem to strike me as the real deal. I live in NC and I'm interested in letting you do the work. Let me know if I can contact you to get the ball rolling. You do great work
@@828style LOOK acdesigns, I got you some work! lmao :)
@@thomasseiter9841 Probably didn't sand/polish correctly. Once the polish came off it went back to cloudy. I bet if you put a wax on it or ceramic coating, it would look great again. Sounds like you didn't buff it right though.
Subscribed immediately. Great content my friend. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much, glad to have you on the team!!!!
Damn your about to put everyone out of business 😂 that looks awesome 😎
Hahahaha thank you, make sure to check out this weeks video on Friday night!!!
WOW Just WOW, Love your video's. Very nice work
Thank you very much!!!
Great video, appreciate your time and hard work, helps out a lot 🙏🏽🙏🏽😎
Thank you very much!!!
2K clear is miles ahead of everything else available in a can. Nice tutorial!
I was amazed with the 2k in the can, amd how awesome it buffed!!!
Would like to see a Rustoleum turbo paint job and 2k clear coat, cut and buffed with denim pads to reduce the amount of sanding. Great job with the experiment.
Thank you, I've never tried the denim pads.
@@ACDesignsGarage 👍👍
thanks so much for sharing your knowledge, I really appreciate your efforts and subscribed to your channel.
Thank you I appreciate your support!!!
You rock dude! Respect 🫡
Hahaha thank you very much!!!!
Thank you lol, I've had stuff blow up on me before like that hahahaha
Watching from over here in Tennessee,, SON, that's looking good. Both my vehicle's are Black, think I'll do the same..
I love Tennessee, If I would ever move that's where I'd go!!! It's holding up pretty good!!!!
@@ACDesignsGarage Yeah I'm not far at all from the NC border 45 min from Ashville.
Wow, just wow!🤩
Hahaha thank you!!!!!
What polishes did u use and what compounds looks good have u used butter wax that works miracles on black paint jobs but u my friend did an Amazing job with garage house hold products
I use meguiars m105 for cutting and 205 for polish, it's pretty cheap and you can get it at harborfreight
What kind of spray paint did you use for this it is coming out awesome
The black was rustoleum turbo and the clear was spray max 2k clear!!!
Unbelievable very nice what clear did you use!!!! Was it all with spray cans very nice dam it!!!!!!!
Yes all spray can, I couldn't believe it eaither lol
Man i subbed thats sime serious detail. Ive definitely learned alot from you.
Thanks for the sub!
Cheers John
Awesome go to my website and there is a email link if you want to send some pictures, ill try to help. www.acdesignsgarage.com
amazing job
Thank you!!!!!
You can do eaither, the reason I like wetsanding is no dust and your sand paper last 3 times longer cause it will wash out!!!!
Yeah I know I have one, I was targeting guys that dont have any special tools, it was a ton more work lol
When you cut the 2k clear what pad did you use. Thanks so much. Talent
I usually start with 1500 grit then go to 2000 or 2500 grit then buff with meguiars m105 compound.
Thank you very much!!!
How long did you sand with 1500, 2000, and 2500 grit until the side panel was fully smooth?
It's pretty close to the video, I try not to cut much out.
