Dearie me! Whole slices, make the sandwich, Butter the top, place butter side down in the toaster, quickly butter the now upper slice close the toaster, wait, eat.
As a Canadian, I can confirm we do love our bacon and beans, and they do come in tin cans. Also they have maple syrup added to them.... because we put maple syrup in everything apparently. From beans to bacon, cookies to muffins, candy to alcohol, everything.
this is admittedly the first time seeing James May since watching him on television so many years back. The years have been exceptionally kind to him, he's looking fantastic and the facial hair really suits him. That aside, it's wonderful to see he has a youtube channel, and even more wonderful to see that it seems to be mostly about sandwiches. I'm not a huge fan of tinned beans, but I'd happily give this a try, just maybe not with a sandwich press. Maybe just on a pan or something.
4:33 You don't. The machine does it for you. I eat beans on toast all the time and thought it was a British staple. Guess not. Still good though! "Wou" (as in would)-"stir"-"sher."
I love these videos! This is bloody Grade A, top-shelf stuff, crafted with the precision of a master chef. You'd think it was served on a silver platter with and garnish with nonsense.
It's just a small panini-press, yes. It's a staple in Danish households. You take ham and cheese between two slices of bread, smack it in there when the light is green, take it out when it looks sufficiently toasty. Ham and cheese toasty machine. You make the sandwich and then put it in. As a bonus; You can experiment with various thin cuts of meat in there. Sausage and dijon mustard is one I've found also works well. A thin layer on the dijon, though.
We would call this a Jaffle maker in Australia, because it allows for filling and seals the actual sandwich. Here a panini/press toaster is flat plate type. A lot of Australian households will either have one or both types at home depending on how patient they are when making them. We have both as the Jaffle maker is too small for some of the slices of bread.
@@SaulGreatorixMusic You are right in that this isn't a true panini press. A true one that keeps the heating elements horizontal at all times is always a bit more expensive. This "cheap" version that you can usually get for around 40-45 AUD is just the bog standard that you would find in every home here in Denmark. You came home from school with your mates, threw off your backpacks, your mate asks if you'd like a "toast", you accept. That's how it went. Just two 12-13 year olds home alone after school, slapping a slices of ham and slices of individually wrapped cheese between two slices of bread. Into the "toaster", and that's it. All of that side; I don't know what would be a proper name for this device. Since it doesn't press explicitly from the top and down, but always at an angle.
Very British having beans in a toasted sandwich. Typically the best ingredients to use in a toastie is ham, cheese, sliced tomatoes with a light smattering of salt, pepper and herb sprinkle. And a good toasted sandwich maker, not the garbage ones. [Chef's kiss]. Merry Christmas James.
