It's interesting to hear about "less well-authenticated hadiths"

i couldn't disagree more with this. the quran needs to be read without the influence of unverified and highly unreliable hadiths. there is no way to know if any of the hadiths are real. and yet we are supposed to read the quran and rely on these comments that are recorded much later than the gospels are after jesus? the sunnah is not the lense by which to read the quran. this is precisely where dr. brown goes wrong in his thinking.

You have a very surface knowledge Jim. There are authentic hadith, strong hadith, good hadith, weak hadith and hadith with broken chain of narration. Every hadith is not considered worthy of being relied upon, and therefore cannot be used as an authority while giving a fatwa. However, to say that a weak hadith is like an authentic hadith is just arrogance.
The Exegesis of the Quran is based on only authentic hadith. These hadith are those which have strong chains of narrations along with multiple independent chains narration of their happening and saying. The things you mentioned is not new to muslim ears and we know how to comprehend with it.
As for the Bible, everyone who wrote about Jesus, not a single one of them. NOT ONE HAD EVEN MET JESUS. Let that sink in for a minute. The Gospels have anonymous writers. Therefore, you are not really in a position to question something which has chains of narrations mate.
