Historically, Islam was originally the non- trinitarian Christianity, There was no new religion in the 7th century (Fred Donner, the origin of Islam), the proto-Islam was probably Non Trinitarian Christianity or Meesianic Judaism. Islam began probably in the 9th century. That's why Muslim cannot explain why Jesus is called Isa the Messiah, al masih, in the Quran. The Quran itself, or part of it, are Christian text (Syriac Aramaic reading of the Koran, Nazarene Reading of the Koran) .. Al Baqarah verse 2 says that the Quran is originally "a text/written revelation".

Jesus is the ONLY way Jordan. I am a recovering addict and I was doing three meetings a day trying to get sober for years. Finally, I fell to my knees, repented and begged Jesus to take it from me. I thought I could do it on my own and was extremely rebellious. It was bad. Sober now almost 10 years and my life has completely changed. He also saved me twice through miracles. Fell through ice and another. It wasn’t my time but please, anyone if you’re looking for a sign, this is it. I never post about this but felt led to. God bless you all! Please choose right. We’ve all sinned but nothing we can do will get us to Heaven. It’s all about what He did. He paid our debt! We are in the last days and He is real. I never believed it really but He is and He’s proved it over and over. Please repent and give your life to Him. Ask Him to be a savior and you will never fear, never feel shame or guilt again! You have a REAL Father in Heaven who loves you no matter what you’ve ever done. Go to Him! He loves you. 🙏❤️🕊✝️

Just look at how the New York Times, BBC, and the rest approached the murder of the journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, non of them spoke to the eye witnesses at the scene, non of them showed the video of her murder by the Israeli army, they all were quick to adopt the Israeli occupation narrative, helping them muddy the water and avoid any responsibility.
Non of them commented on the fact that she was the 55th journalist killed by the occupation, non of them mentioned that her murder didn’t happen in Israel, that it took place in an occupied Palestinian land, by the hands of an occupying army!

Around 15 - 20 years ago I worked security at a building in London where this man once held a talk. A lot of people had turned up for his talk and he was obviously very popular with a tight schedule. He still took his time shaking my hand, greeting me, very friendly and respectful. Usually people wouldn't even look or notice me. I had forgotten his name until I saw this interview.

There are no amount of good works that you can do to appease the Father - because of our sin nature. But by accepting the shed blood of Jesus, blood that was shed for the total amount of the sins of the world, you are saved. Reading and understanding different faiths and belief systems is incredibly valuable. It’s interesting how many themes, lessons and guiding principles align with other ancient belief systems from across the world. JP does an incredible job of unlocking some of these ancient stories for us.
It’s fantastic we have such open minded scholars working on interfaith relations and understanding. Inshallah we will see more of this in the future rather than the ignorance and hatred that runs rampant these days

Being an American, I do believe in freedom of religion, including Islam. After watching this discussion, I have opened my mind more clearly to the Islam faith and would like to research more about it. All religions have people that are bad examples and do not properly represent their faiths. I agree that moving forward towards peace should start with our similarities rather than our differences. when doing research, I encourage you to follow this path.
whenever you read a quranic verse you do not understand, you shouldn't look it up on youtube, where a 21st century "scholar" will lie in your face.
instead look up the "tafsir" (exegesis/explanation) of the most prominent and earliest scholars in the Islamic faith. Some of these being, Ibn Kathir, Al Jalalain, Al Qurtubi, Ibn Abbas (first cousin of muhammed.
This in combination with the "Hadith", which are basically stories passed down and written 200 years after mohammed died will give you a clear understanding of what Islam encompasses. The most prominent hadith collections are from Sahih al Bukhari, and Sahih Muslim, which are called the "sahihain" sahih being the word for authentic. These hadith collections are undisputed and are thus, as the word indicates 100% authentic.
Next to the 2 sahihain collections you have sunan abi Dawood, sunan Ibn Majah, sunan an Nasa'i, Jam'i al Tirmidhi.
Goodluck with researching. May the peace of Christ be with you, and the power of the holy spirit guide you!❤
Edit: The "Hadith" are basically stories on mohammed, how he lived, how he acted, and what he said. Without the Hadith, a lot of the quran cannot be explained, which is why they are necessary for the Islamic faith.

"To study and not think is a waste. To think and not study is dangerous"
It is a waste to just study because what's the point of studying in the first place if you're not going to utilize what you studied by thinking; developing new ideas and thoughts or solving problems using what you studied. I think the original one is more easy to understand as I can't relate "blindness"s' meaning.

moving on to the next part of the quote, you literally and completely missed the point here.
It is dangerous to think and not study because with just thinking you lacks diversity of perspective. It is difficult to see the both side of the coin on your own. Keep on thinking alone, isolated, you're filled with one sided ideas becoming more and more polarized with everyone around and you becomes bigoted, arrogant and narrow minded.

genuine question for you and people who use the same lexicon as you, why is it that when you observe this “negative light” on islam, you dont do some research as to why it would be perceived as negative? you could have spoke to some people who escaped it and heard their perspective. instead, you ask the group being portrayed in a “negative light” why that is, and its almost like having the defendant be the only person heard in court.

(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 4987)Touching the Stone is one of the things by means of which Allah expiates for sins. It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said: I heard the Messenger of Allah say: “Touching them both [the Black Stone and al-Rukn al-Yamani] is an expiation for sins.”
      Sunan an-Nasa'i (Book 26, Hadith 184)

Sahih al-Bukhari 5080 (Book 67 Hadith 18) "When I got married, Allah's Messenger said to me, "What type of lady have you married?" I replied, "I have married a matron' He said, "Why, don't you have a liking for the virgins and for fondling them?" Jabir also said: Allah's Messenger said, "Why didn't you marry a young girl so that you might play with her and she with you?"
      Sahih al-Bukhari 5765 (Book 76, Hadith 79)
Narrated Aisha: Magic was worked on Allah's Messenger so that he used to think that he had sexual relations with his wives while he actually had not.
      Sahih al-Bukhari 3175 (Book 58, Hadith 17)

Relating to your comment of world domination, I wish to explain to you the reason why you may meet muslims that seem very excited to get others to accept this religion.
Let's use an example: let's assume you are a good hearted person and you have some knowledge that's life changing and completely beneficial - you would obviously want to share this knowledge with family, friends and the world at large.
For muslims, this beautiful truth is Islam, and we want to share it with everyone far and wide. The motive is one of love, care and concern for our fellow brothers and sisters. It has absolutely nothing to do with "world domination". We just want the best for our fellow man. If u have come across any muslims that are aggressive, then this is the fault if that particular person, and not the religion itself. The religion tells us to invite people in a peaceful and beautiful way.
My advice to you is to get a translation of the holy Qur'aan and read it and decide for yourself. Keep an open heart and mind, and leave the hatred and bias aside. You might be surprised at the result. May God guide us all to the truth, and may He allow us all to live peacefully.

@@salmivec Yes, further discussions would probably be quite fruitful. I think Dr. Peterson's knowledge of Islam is very limited, and like most people in the West, what he thinks he knows about Islam is most often distorted, superficial, or flat-out incorrect. Lack of intellectual integrity seems to be the norm these days, so I'm happy to see that Dr. Peterson is making an effort to engage in dialogue with a believing Muslim instead of what amounts to a "straw man" Muslim. Quite often, if one mentions to a knowledgeable Christian that one wants to learn about Islam and requests recommended books about it, they will recommend books written by people who rabidly hate Islam--or at a minimum strongly disagree with it. Just think about the look that would be on their face if you told them that you were going to "learn" about Christianity by reading books written by those who hate it or otherwise disbelieve in it...Ha! Keeping that in mind, it's always nice to see a bit of fair-mindedness and intellectual integrity in action. Converting to Islam is a deeply personal and spiritual decision. It involves embracing the Islamic faith and submitting oneself to the will of Allah, the Arabic word for God. Islam is a monotheistic religion that believes in the existence of one God, who is merciful and compassionate.
The process of converting to Islam can vary depending on individual circumstances and cultural factors. However, there are generally some common steps involved in the conversion process:
    1. Seeking knowledge: Before converting to Islam, it is important to acquire knowledge about the basic beliefs, practices, and principles of Islam. This can be done through personal study, reading books, attending classes, or seeking guidance from knowledgeable Muslims.
    2. Declaration of faith (Shahada): The central aspect of converting to Islam is the recitation of the Shahada, which is the declaration of faith. It consists of two parts: "Ash-hadu an la ilaha illa Allah" (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah) and "wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasul Allah" (and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah). This declaration is usually made in the presence of witnesses or within a Muslim community.
    3. Purification: After reciting the Shahada, it is recommended to take a ritual bath (Ghusl) or perform ablution (Wudu) to spiritually cleanse oneself.
    4. Learning and practicing the pillars of Islam: The five pillars of Islam are the foundational acts of worship that every Muslim should observe. They include:
    a. Shahada: The declaration of faith, as mentioned above.
    b. Salah: The performance of five daily prayers.
    c. Zakat: The giving of alms to the poor and needy.
    d. Sawm: Fasting during the month of Ramadan.
    e. Hajj: If physically and financially able, undertaking the pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a lifetime.
    5. Integration into the Muslim community: It is beneficial to connect with the local Muslim community or find a mentor who can provide guidance and support as you embark on your new faith journey. Mosques and Islamic centers often offer educational programs, social activities, and opportunities for community involvement.
    6. Continued learning and growth: Converting to Islam is not just a one-time event but a lifelong commitment to seeking knowledge, practicing the faith, and developing a relationship with Allah. It is important to continue learning about Islam, reading the Quran, and deepening one's understanding of Islamic teachings.
It's worth noting that converting to Islam is a personal decision, and it should be undertaken sincerely and without any external pressure. Muslims generally welcome new converts with open arms and provide support in their journey towards understanding and practicing the religion.

If you are going to use the Bible then why do you believe in the Bible? Do you think it is the word of God? Why? Can you give me one proof? I don't need you to answer this. Use this to learn, to know if you could answer these questions.
There's nothing wrong in doubting. God gave us intelligence. If everyone just refused to change their ways then no one would find the truth, except for those who were born into it. You will either end up finding the truth or your belief would grow stronger.

I experienced something this year and learnt about repentance, patience and submission. My son strayed became addicted to drugs and tried attacking me ,he abused me even though I constantly showed him love and patiently tried to handle the heart breaking process and on going living in distress for 8 months . It brought me close to Allah and I understood the my love and attachment brought me this pain as Allah wanted me to go close to him through this pain. It was a test for me and my son, I took that path and today my son left me blaming me and it’s painful but I will remain patient and keep praying and hope that Allah has his course to run and he will eventually bless me and guide my son to the right path with firm realization someday. But I have to submit and understand Allah’s way and trusting his plan . And this pain reminded me of all my mistakes and repent to Allah for forgiveness and to clean my soul from all my sins. I am great full that I am taking step towards the path which I should have never deviated.

Jesus said to her: “Your brother will rise.” 24 Martha said to him: “I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.” 25 Jesus said to her: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life; 26 and everyone who is living and exercises faith in me will never die at all. Do you believe this?” 27 She said to him: “Yes, Lord, I have believed that you are the Christ, the Son of God, the one coming into the world.” John 11:23-27.
After these things, the son of the woman who owned the house fell sick, and his sickness became so severe that he stopped breathing. 18 At this she said to E·liʹjah: “What do you have against me,* O man of the true God? Have you come to remind me of my guilt and to put my son to death?”19 But he said to her: “Give me your son.” Then he took him from her arms and carried him up to the roof chamber, where he was staying, and he laid him on his own bed. 20 He called out to Jehovah: “O Jehovah my God, are you also bringing harm to the widow with whom I am staying by putting her son to death?” 21 Then he stretched himself out over the child three times and called out to Jehovah: “O Jehovah my God, please, let this child’s life come back into him.” 22 Jehovah listened to E·liʹjah’s request, and the life of the child came back into him, and he revived. 23 E·liʹjah took the child and brought him down from the roof chamber into the house and gave him to his mother; and E·liʹjah said: “See, your son is alive.”24 At that the woman said to E·liʹjah: “Now I know that you truly are a man of God and that Jehovah’s word in your mouth is truth.” 1 King 17:17-24.
As he moved along, they were spreading their outer garments on the road. 37 As soon as he got near the road down the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and to praise God with a loud voice because of all the powerful works they had seen, 38 saying: “Blessed is the one coming as the King in Jehovah’s name! Peace in heaven, and glory in the heights above!” 39 However, some of the Pharisees from the crowd said to him: “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.”40 But in reply he said: “I tell you, if these remained silent, the stones would cry out.”41 And when he got nearby, he viewed the city and wept over it, 42 saying: “If you, even you, had discerned on this day the things having to do with peace-but now they have been hidden from your eyes. 43 Because the days will come upon you when your enemies will build around you a fortification of pointed stakes and will encircle you and besiege* you from every side. 44 They will dash you and your children within you to the ground, and they will not leave a stone upon a stone in you, because you did not discern the time of your being inspected. To all Muslims! Son of God means NOT SON! What is called the son of God is the word of God = god himself! Which has nothing to do with a child (son)! Thus, the Son of God is incarnated as the human Jesus and the human Jesus is therefore referred to as a son, which does not mean a son!

I had kinda the same story. I was born Muslim but later became atheist in college. About a decade later, I’ve returned to my faith. The best advice I can give you is to strip away “your truth” from any religion you seek. Religion is not about your truth it is about the truth. So for example you mentioned patriarchy which is rooted almost in every religion however it would appear your family practiced it more culturally than religiously. It is a well-known fact unfortunately that Islam today is much more extreme than Islam a thousand years ago but people are being enlightened and the community is showing more commitment to the scripture now than to culture
