It is so beautiful to hear about Islam from someone who is a Muslim by choice. Thank you for your Indepth contribution. Are we witnessing the sunrise from the west, already!? So comforting to listen to you Dr. JB.
Alhamdulillah! After few days of having cringe feeling due to watching Christian Prince channel which is tongue and mind twisting! I found your channel Prof. Brown, jazak Allah khairan brother!
@49:29, in Q&A, Prof. Jonathan brown should mention surah al-Asr. As he was answering the question that muslims do not have a golden ticket to paradise---"Surah al asr" sums it up perfectly. It outlines the 4 minimal requirements for any muslim. 1. Shahaadah with iman 2. perform prayer, give obligatory charity etc. 3. perform good deeds and invite others to do so 4. maintain the previous 3 with patience + perseverence
@Athlethics *Try to finish the entire thing. Alhamdulillah. I do believe I am guided by the will of Allah and part of gratefulness is to spread that guidance and the haqq that Allah has ordered me to spread. Saying "all the knowledge is with you" is shirk and I'm dissociating myself from that. I don't hold the keys to paradise, Allah does. I don't care if you're being sarcastic. Allah knows everything and He has power over everything. But He has revealed some of that knowledge to us from His mercy and we thank Him for that. Part of that thankfulness is to abide by the commands of Allah and He says "Everyone is in loss except those who.... call towards the truth. When you convert to Islam, you should know what Islam you're converting to. Or whether you're falling into shirk again or not. If you have beliefs that are clearly against what Islam teaches like advocating for gay marriage and gay rights, then you shouldn't speak in the name of Islam at all. And if you do, you have to expect people speaking out against you. Jonathan Brown is a revert and I appreciate him reverting. What I don't appreciate is him misguiding people and it is my duty as a muslim to speak against him. Simply reverting doesn't buy you a ticket to whatever you want. If you think I'm making his life miserable, what do you think of the people whose hereafter will be made miserable for giving in to the kufr of some of these recent preachers or their deviances? I believe it's your duty and mine to speak against him and if you don't believe me, read the Qur'aan.

@@shahzaibahmed. So you want people killed for criticizing Islam, but not for criticizing other religions? How utterly hypocritical and arrogant. And how utterly vicious that you would want to kill people merely for insults. Mohammed never executed people for blasphemy.

3:15 100% correct, Believing in God has very little to do with factual evidence. I mean even theologically we understand that this life is a test and if there were some concrete proof of existence of God logically or experimentally then this life wouldnt be a "test" anymore because the answer would already be there. So belief in God is largely a matter of "faith" not reason or evidence
I agree with everything you said in this video, Jonathan and I don't see any reason for others to not to. And the narration about the mercy of a mother I have heard a lot but by Allah's grace, the way you put it makes it clear to me than ever. Thanks. Allāhumma şoli 'alaika yā akhī fid_Dīn, Shaikh Jonathan Brown, wa 'ala ālika.
I know for most people, this will sound extreme. But I feel dad reading the comments because most people seem to be agreeing with this. This approach of trying to find ayaat to conform with what we believe to be correct or what we find comfortable enough to believe seems strange to me and really sad. When Allah says in the Quran, 3:19, an ayah that Dr. Brown mentioned, that Islam is the religion in the sight of Allah, does not that end all arguments?! I don't understand why we have to keep digging to find something that might meet with what we feel is correct. Dr. Brown talked about the mercy of Allah and how that encompasses all things. Of course that's correct. But he used that to justify why he believes hell fire cannot be ever lasting. But that simply makes no sense because is he then suggesting that when Allah puts people in hell, he is not being merciful at that time, even though it is explicitly stated that Allah's mercy encompasses all things? Is Allah only merciful when he puts us in jannah but not in jahunum? If so, then does Allah's mercy not encompass all things? I think that argument cannot be used to justify why you think hell fire is not everlasting. He talked about how we shouldn't condemn people to hell because we are then ignoring Allah's attribute of being the most merciful. Of course, he is right we shouldn't condemn individuals to hell but I don't think anyone with any knowledge would say that anyway. But is he not ignoring the attribute of Allah being the most wise and the most just when he is defining for Allah what mercy is and isnt? I.e. that when Allah puts us in hell, he is not being merciful. I feel sad that as an ummah, we are trying to change our interpretation of our deen to suit what we think is morally correct. Btw there are so many places in the quran where Allah states the disbelivers will reside in hell forever, please check these for yourself and you will realise that coming up with your own theories when there is explicit evidence is so dangerous. (4:168-169, 33:64, 72:33). Allah's words are the truth, let us believe them and not think that maybe Allah will change his mind because it doesn't fit with what we believe can be a merciful Lord. You only call someone a Kuffar in Islam when they have been presented with the Information of Islam and they disbelieve. You cannot just call anyone Kuffar - others are classed as non - muslim.
Well technically that is incorrect according to surah al-bayinnah where Allah refers to them as "those who did kufr" and "mushrikeen" however He clearly mentioned their not having received the bayyinah (clarification) i.e. the Qur'an and Message sent to Prophet Muhammad sAaws. Therefore ignorance is highlighted as a cause of their misguidance and not an excuse for their misguidance.
My advise to uis to focuse on the chronolgic of ayaat ,which came before ,and which came after and why and is it came on the general fase ,or the private fase and to which part of the past ayaat or ayaats, see u n paradise
But what if you simply do not see the truth of Islam? I would not blame someone for failing to understand Isaac Newton's inverse square law; I would assume that they were not very intelligent. How can someone be blamed and indeed punished for failing to see the truth of something? Or are we saying that anyone who has Islam presented to them and who does not accept it is just lying? That seems improbable to me.
I have a Hindu friend who believes in one all knowing all powerful all merciful God the Creator of everything. She prays and fasts and gives charity as part of her religion's teachings in a very similar way to us (Muslims). She also believes that Muhammad PUH is a messenger of God and that Islam is a true religion of God. She does not follow Islam, but I believe that she is a better Muslim than myself!!
Muslim will be judge ultimately by their intention (eeman/belief in one specific God =Allah s.w.t) only then their good or bad deeds/actions will be matter.

Its not similar at all. Muslim means the one who submit to Allah, and do actions based on that submission. She believe in Muhammad s.a.w but didn't follow what he preach? That is a confusion and contradiction. How come she is better muslim than you, when she is not a muslim in a first place.

Prof Brown posted very good point, that the light or assurance come to heart being a Muslim from God, but that assurance is subjective, however that subjective assurance also come from the opposite force other than God, example St. Paul experience for his reason to become a Christian. I know a Muslim, who heard a real voice talked to him and said this "Abdul Qadir Gilani I am your Lord, from today onward, I leave you off from all your duties and obligation from Islam", when heard this voice Abdul Qadir Gilani replied by saying "Shut up enemy of Allah", but again the voice said the same line again and Abdul Qadir Gilani replied again "Shut up enemy of Allah" and in third time that voice told him I tricked many but I could not fooled you today. Me as a Muslim, I would categorize St Paul experience is very much identical to Abdul Qadir Gilani's experienced.
I am an agnostic. I see no rational reason to believe in any religion. All the major religions promote irrational thinking. For example you believe St Paul heard the voice of Satan. What about Christians who believe Mohammad heard the voice of Satan? Mr personnel view? Both religions promote irrational thinking.
@@charlievaughan1308 Thanks for commenting on this thread, I will trying to reply to your by mentioning your line in parallel. I wonder, if you have ever read the Quran for yourself? _"What about Christians who believe Mohammad heard the voice of Satan? There is not a single Christian on Earth, can provide me an answer. Whereas five pillars of Islam that Muslims practice day-in and day-out on every day life, they stand before the God and they are valid before the God with or without the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) himself coming into the equation, likewise five pillars of Islam stand before the God and they are valid before the God with or without Quran coming into the picture. There is no other religion on Earth can be applied with this level of scrutiny.

@@charlievaughan1308 There is something significant in the two videos I posted above for you to watch, both were former "enemies" who hated Islam/Muslims one of them is a U.S corporal in marine-core in U.S military and other one is a Jewish American, as you know the conflict in Palestine, between Arabs and Jews. So both were Muslim "enemies" but they turned to God in whole sincerity and God return to them. Beside, self taught Islam to themselves there was no middle-man involved and the videos were created by themselves and posted on youtube by themselves, that is significant as to the advertisement that you mentioned of. I suppose, they accepted Islam, as Islam convinced them, their own personal encounter with God, without third-person coming into picture, between a man and God. Likewise people in other videos, one of them is multi millionaire i.e. Mélanie Georgiades, who converted to Islam. People have to have 100 percent sincerity to establish a relationship with the Creator, if one turn to God in whole sincerity then God did return to them, all based on one's sincerity. God will not change one's state, unless until one change it for themselves. Now enough with my riddling, I let you do your thing, if you have question, ping me.
Well my Arabic is not enough to clarify what you are trying to say by quting verses but even in them there is no guarantie that neither of us can keep their faith till the last breath while any other nonmuslim will not be converted and become a better member of Muslim society like our brother Brown here. Just getting title to be called by others as Muslim will not make us real Muslims. Our knowledge about things are tempralily and the things we know are temporal appareances of those things, absolute knowledge is in Allah's domain so we can never be sure what will happen in the future, so best case of action is to restrain ourselves from doing anything irreversible or irreperable by our own, brother Brown is suggesting this. As God reveals in Quran "Did you beleived that you will not be judged just you said you accepted Islam?" أَحَسِبَ النَّاسُ أَن يُتْرَكُوا أَن يَقُولُوا آمَنَّا وَهُمْ لَا يُفْتَنُونَ (ankebut 2)

REPLY TO PROFFESSOR BROWN. Proffessor Brown thank for your talk Let me introduce myself. I am an irishman who was brought up catholic I no longer practice any religion as I find all religions promote.irrational thinking. That includes Islam. For a while I was a Christian fundamentalist One of the problems how do you know your religion is true. You mention Al ghazli.
You know it’s true if it is reached with rational thinking. The tricky part is sorting through our own belief justifications and making sure we are consistent across the board, if we do that correctly we reach Islam.
@@muhammadgaffar8744 Thank you for reply. Just to reiterate what I have previously said. I am an Irishman who is agnostic. I was brought up Catholic but I no longer follow any religion. I believe all the major world religions promote irrational thinking I.e. Judaism, Christianity and Islam. I am aware that there are Muslims who say that all the major world's religions promote irrational thinking ----- except Islam. I regard such an attitude as immature and childish. Now to get to the heart of the matter. I would like to QUOTE what you have written. You write The following " The problem with irrational thinking, you need to separate the (1) contradiction of logical thinking (2) currently no evidence no evidence in our science (3) morality" End of quote. I am not sure what you mean by " Contradiction of logical thinking".Any way I would to state my case and clarify some points. I have not stated that it is irrational to believe in God or the afterlife. For example, it is possible for a Deist God to exist. A God who got the whole show going so to speak but has no interest in humanity. A non interventionist God who does not answer prayers. A number of people believe that this was perhaps the God that Einstein believed in. Now let us come to the Abrahamic God. According to the Catholic Church the Abrahamic God is the God Jews, Christians and Muslims. This is what I was brought up to believe as a Catholic.I now believe it is irrational to believe in the Abrahamic God. Why you ask? Let me explain. The Abrahamic God is Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnibenovelent and yet evil exists. I would strongly advise you to listen to Dr.Yasir Quadhi lecture which he gave in Singapore. The title of his talk "Does every single doubt and question about Islam have a rational answer"?This is what he says about the problem of evil and I QUOTE " Because you cannot give a fully rational answer to the existence of evil". End of quote. I respect the intellect and great learning of Dr. Quadhi. However, I would respectfully disagree with him. Why couldn't God give a fully rational answer in the Koran or the Bible or whatever Holy Book? Every year 5 million children die of infectious diseases world wide. Although this mainly happens in poor countries where people pray a lot. Why? If God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenovelent? Did you know that there are over 4,ooo genetic diseases? Again, how do you reconcile this with the existence of the Abrahamic God? Ask the Catholic and he will blame it on "original sin". Ask the Muslim and he will tell you that it is because we are being tested. To me both explanations are equally irrational and preposterous. I would utterly reject the idea that I am not really interested in truth but only interested in winning an argument. As an Irishman, I will admit that I do love a good argument. However, i am passionately interested in Truth and I consider myself a Truth seeker. I will close with a Catholic greeting. PAX VOBISCUM. which means Peace be with you.
@@muhammadgaffar8744 Just to QUOTE Dr. Quadhi properly. The title of his lecture is " Does every single doubt and rational question about Islam have a rational answer"? I am not going to QUOTE his entire lecture obviously. However, this part of what he said. He said " I mean honestly the existence of evil for example, Theodicy the fancy term. Humanity has been grappling with this problem from the beginning of time.. Every theologian since the beginning of time that believes in God has attempted to reconcile why is there evil.........because you cannot give a fully rational answer to the problem of evil"
@@charlievaughan1308 Hey Charlie. This isn't easy to answer in one YT comment. I essentially had the same question. Here is the framework that I used to come to my conclusion 1- Start from the foundations. Is there are God and is believing in a God rational? Id recommend the book The Divine Reality, Hamza Andreas Tzortzis 2- Step two find out which religion describes reality in the most rational manner. This may take some time. If you are interested in Islam then Id recommend listening to scholars like Hamza Yusuf,Timmothy Winter, Nouman Ali khan. 3- I've realized that coming to absolute certainty through only rational means isn't possible because of the limitations of our rational minds. After my research when I was fairly convinced that Islam makes the most sense then I accepted and started practising it. And this is when I became certain. Through practice, the spiritual light that God puts in your heart makes you certain beyond a shadow of a doubt. Muslims have a belief that if any individual is sincere and makes an effort to find the truth then God will without a doubt guide him to the truth. So just keeping searching for the truth of life with sincerity. May God aid you in your path. Regards
Paraphrasing this kind reminder: (You could be a Muslim and not practice anything Islamic in manners…or have a mean disposition. And as Iqbal, too, once noted, certain people of the West could have more traditionally Islamic qualities, vice versa)…… Sura 5:47-48, “Let the People of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed therein. If any do fail to judge by the light of what Allah has revealed, they are no better than those who rebel.//To you We sent the Scripture in truth, confirming the scripture that came before it, and guarding it in safety: so judge between them by what Allah has revealed, and do not follow their vain desires, diverging from the Truth that has come to you. To EACH among you We have prescribed an OPEN WAY. (Free will, I think). If Allah had so willed, He would have made you a single people, but Allah’s Plan is to TEST you in what He has given you: so STRIVE as in a race in all virtues (much like Marcus Aurelius’ virtues of good works, I think). The GOAL of you all is to Allah; (all humans, I think). It is HE that will show you the truth of the matters in which you dispute.” (What Dr. Brown describes in the beginning of the lecture). Subhanallah Sura Fatir, 35:10, “If any do seek for glory or power,--to Allah belong all glory and power. To Him mount up all Words of Purity: It is He who exalts EACH deed of righteousness.” Alhumdullilah Isaiah 50:4, “The Lord God has given me (humans) the tongue of the learned…He awakens my ear to hear as the learned.//The Lord God (One, I believe), has opened my ear, and I was NOT rebellious.” Alhumdullilah “People who despise God Almighty are still given blessings by God.” (So true, and so ungrateful too many humans have become due to a buildup of inner arrogance). Astaghfirullah “Nobody has a golden ticket to Paradise.” Subhanallah. Was always taught this wise point from our most pious elders/and my father, May Allah give him and our elders the highest Jannah for their kind deeds each day. Sura The Spirits, 72:11, “There are among us some that are righteous, and some the contrary: we follow divergent paths…amongst us (implication: humans) are some that submit their wills to Allah, and some that swerve from justice.//Now those who submit their wills - (like taming a horse/one’s own nafs/ego)-they have sought out the path of right conduct.” (Love this poignant passage).

He cited Ibn Taymiyyah when speaking of Hell's eternality. Logically speaking, I can't see how an eternal torment could by definition serve any purpose. Every sinful person, no matter how bad they are in this life, must reach a point in their suffering where the pain becomes purely for the sake of pain. If you don't agree, then I don't think you've thought deeply enough about the sheer magnitude of eternity. I'm not trying to arrogantly call God's bluff. Even a moment in Hell is more painful than anyone can appreciate. But either there's something I'm missing that classical and literalist scholars have failed to articulate, or there's a more nuanced/allegorical meaning behind how "forever" is used in the Qur'an that allows us to reinterpret the eternality of Hell. Because like I said, suffering can only have punitive purpose for so long before it simply becomes pain for the sake of pain. And I feel doing that would be beneath God
I completely disagree believing simply in Allah as one god is not enough one must accept the totality of what is on the Islamic platform .Good deeds do not on there own open up autoMagically the gates of gena what does open her gates of jennsh is the MERCY OF ALLAH as made a i dangly clear by the prophet Muhammad accepting the totality of the Islamic platform opens the incalculable vastness of the mercy of Allah it is in that context that we can not say who is going and not going to heaven and hell as that is the eminent domain of Allah unknown to any of the creation . The condition of the so called believer is only known by Allah as is his final destination those who reject the Islamic platform though they may have some characteristics of Islam are by there own choice destiny Ned for hell they will get as reward in this life of the praise and Remembrance of others and the credit for there deeds that gives them a portion of fame that by default will extend to there families the content of there personal reality i rejection of Islam is disqualified they will earn the product of that rejection

This person has a very specific view of religions in general and makes assumptions about how they work which has nothing to do with Christianity. The Christian doesn't go to heaven because they're a good person. In Christianity, if it were true that a person has to be 'good' to get to heaven, heaven would be empty. The idea of the so called 'good person going to heaven' is what a lot of religions do teach, including Islam. But has nothing at all to do with biblical Christianity. If a person wants to know the mindset of the true Christian they'll have to take time and read the bible. Bible believing, informed Christians know they go to heaven based on God's grace. It's about what God does, not what we do.
Actually, you have to believe that Jesus atoned for your sins, the original sin. In Islam you have to exert an effort according to your ability to worship and please God and live according to his law, but then too only through god's mercy will you enter heaven.

Islam categorically says that it's all from God's mercy. But at the same time, you have to do your best to make good works. God is just and merciful at the same time. You have more chance of getting mercy if you are righteous as God will do justice to the action you did.

Thank you for your thoughtful lecture, Dr. Brown.
@49:29, in Q&A, Prof. Jonathan brown should mention surah al-Asr. As he was answering the question that muslims do not have a golden ticket to paradise---"Surah al asr" sums it up perfectly. It outlines the 4 minimal requirements for any muslim.
1. Shahaadah with iman
2. perform prayer, give obligatory charity etc.
3. perform good deeds and invite others to do so
4. maintain the previous 3 with patience + perseverence
4. Call towards patience. Nobody asked their tafseer

For those interested, please check out Muslim Skeptic youtube channel- it seriously opened my eyes to all of this stuff.

Johnathan, put the time in the equations(asbab al nozol of ayaats)c.u.n.paradise.inshaa Allah.
You only call someone a Kuffar in Islam when they have been presented with the Information of Islam and they disbelieve. You cannot just call anyone Kuffar - others are classed as non - muslim.
Your wrong Allah and His messengers have already explained what a kaafir is so it doesn't matter what a dictionary says

I asked this question to many hundreds of thousands of Christians online and offline, that question was: "Please provide me one thing, that you Christian believe and practice as in Christianity that is valid before the God and it stands before the God, that which could lead you Christians to salvation?" There is not a single Christian on Earth, can provide me an answer.

Remember we Muslims were described as best Ummah! Bcoz we order good and forbid evil! But the question is how do we forbid evil and order good if we’re always sweet to anyone that doesn’t want to be criticized!
I’m not criticizing the sheikhs but I’d like you to always be fair to clerify on both sides of reality! Bcoz the mu’min should be always be btw hopeful and in fear of Allah at the same time!

REPLY TO PROFFESSOR BROWN.
Proffessor Brown thank for your talk
Let me introduce myself. I am an irishman who was brought up catholic
I no longer practice any religion as I find all religions promote.irrational thinking. That includes Islam. For a while I was a Christian fundamentalist One of the problems how do you know your religion is true. You mention Al ghazli.
You say that when Al Ghazli had his doubts
Here is the framework that I used to come to my conclusion
1- Start from the foundations. Is there are God and is believing in a God rational? Id recommend the book The Divine Reality, Hamza Andreas Tzortzis
2- Step two find out which religion describes reality in the most rational manner.
And as Iqbal, too, once noted, certain people of the West could have more traditionally Islamic qualities, vice versa)……
Sura 5:47-48, “Let the People of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed therein. Subhanallah
Sura Fatir, 35:10, “If any do seek for glory or power,--to Allah belong all glory and power. To Him mount up all Words of Purity: It is He who exalts EACH deed of righteousness.” Alhumdullilah
Isaiah 50:4, “The Lord God has given me (humans) the tongue of the learned…He awakens my ear to hear as the learned.//The Lord God (One, I believe), has opened my ear, and I was NOT rebellious.” Alhumdullilah
“People who despise God Almighty are still given blessings by God.” (So true, and so ungrateful too many humans have become due to a buildup of inner arrogance). Astaghfirullah
“Nobody has a golden ticket to Paradise.” Subhanallah.
Can Salvation be Found Outside of Islam?
Damn it, we need the answer?
BAFS
9:34 He is wrong about this matter. A Muslim man can marry a non-Muslim woman but he can, only, if the woman is a christian or Jewish.
Since a Muslim man can marry a Christian or Jewish or Sabean (possibly Zoroastrian) woman , then a Muslim woman can marry men from these faiths as well since there is no prohibition explicitly in the Quran for women. A permission for Muslim men would then apply as well to Muslim women!

Islam is the only salvation bcoz it is the only True message all other do not exist in their original form
Even Islam does not exist in its original form! All you have to do is see how much of Islam today is based on the Quran, the true word of Allah, and how much is based on scholars' views!

The answer is NO. There is no salvation for the mukallaf outside of Islam.

The answer is yes. Salvation can definitely be found outside the abrahamic religions.
I think that out side of Islam there will never be a salvation because Qur'an says so. Inside of Islam following a distorted version of Islam, there may be some excuse or may not be it is in the hands of God.

Well answer to this is that what was revealed to each prophet has been clearly revealed to the last and final prophet Muhammad (S). So Quran has a another name which is called MUHIMIN the tool to check the quality or to certify the product of its free from fakery.

I watch so many and I really don't know what you are trying to drive at.
For those interested, please check out Muslim Skeptic youtube channel- it seriously opened my eyes to all of this stuff.

WAIT is it not shown that Jesus the Christ is the man without sin the very substance of the universe seen and unseen was made through Him, Who condemns slavery racism prostitution CONCUBINES polygamy rape sex with animals and children and any sex outside of marriage and any sex not consented to, AND MORE, that marriage is of one man and one woman, where all are equal get that ALL ARE EQUAL through HIM therefore HE is the end to all human and animal sacrifices FOREVER. WHY? BECAUSE HE IS the PASSOVER sacrifice, who has the power to heal. And Paul did not did not did not convert to Christianity from Judaism for Jesus kept the Torah of God and is exact representation of God on earth who appeared to Abraham twice who Abraham saw and did not sacrifice ISAAC, as he saw the ram in the thicket. Maududi , al Banna and Qutb are modernist nonsense.
how about first discussing whether there is anything like salvation!!! It is acutally an infantile wish!!!!
@@darthfreiza7664 Yes, and the belief that the Christian has is given to him/her by God. Belief is not self induced, there's no such thing as genuine self induced faith. It's ALL the work of God, not the work of humans...
Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
Eph 2:9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
@@fredflintstone8048 Exactly, Faith comes from God, and those who have it are very lucky, but one only needs to do is think. But you must not forget that it is the same God who causes people to go astray, There is no such thing as a Good God. God is wise and all that he does has reasons. I heard that if one doesn't believe in Jesus he won't be judged by Jesus. Is that true? I would also like to know which set of Christianity are you from?
Islam categorically says that it's all from God's mercy. But at the same time, you have to do your best to make good works. God is just and merciful at the same time. You have more chance of getting mercy if you are righteous as God will do justice to the action you did.
This issue is very clear in Islam. Idk why you’re speaking as if Muslims believe that good deeds get people to heaven.
Must asked those who leave Islam and convert to Christianity.
