Alternator Disassembly and Powder Coating!! GC8 EJ257

  • The EJ257 out of a Subaru Impreza wrx sti that's going in the gc8 gets a new look! Its a complete alternator disassembly video. Its good to know how to remove alternator in case you develop alternator problems or alternator noise / alternator whine from the alternator bearing, although this one had no alternator pulley noise. You start with the alternator plug wiring by doing the alternator plug removal and then the alternator pulley removal. I might do a video in the future on a tutorial on how to do alternator testing.The disassembly might require a press as I had to use my harbor freight 20 ton press. once all the engine components were removed, they went in for sand blasting, then I powder coated them in the prismatic powders gloss black using my Eastwood powder coating gun / Eastwood powder coating system. Stay tuned for the ej257 swap into gc8 videos to come and help me decide on a ej205 or ej207 swap for the coupe or maybe an h6 swap like an ez30r!

    I know this is a couple years old, but I ran in the same concern with my 335I when it came to powder coating components. I wound up going with cerakote which is a ceramic coating that doesn’t need to be oven cured. So far so good!

    GReat video but I am curious if you have run that alternator yet? Only curious because I am on the verge of powder coating mine but everyone keeps telling me to not coat the inside parts on the actual case. It's a tight fit for one but others have said it has to have contact with the clean metal on the inside of the alternator case. Thanks man!

      Thanks! Yeah so you do need clean metal on the contact points so just clean those areas up and you’re fine. That’s what I did and it’s working fine
