11:26 Despite Iroh being the one who is imprisoned, he is the one who is shown as free while Zuko sits in the dark, behind bars. It shows that Iroh's mind is clear and free while Zuko is confused and stuck within his own mind. This shot is one of the reasons this show is so great

Through out the whole show, for each time zuko's side of his face shown, it matches the context very well.
Everytime it shows his unburnt side, it shows his true self, and his burnt side is always something about his family, or the fire nation

I mean Zuko was really misguided at the time so I think Iroh was disappointed.. but in a way he wasn’t surprised, you could see it in his face.
I think more than anything he was worried. Zuko looks really close to going insane at that point. He could have snapped and ended up like Azula.

I'm surprised the Sand benders kidnapping Appa isn't on here. I'm sure a lot of people thought they would get out of the library okay, but seeing Appa get taken was pretty unexpected, along with Aang's anger (Aanger?) at Toph.

The Objective Geek - Reviews & Analysis I was beyond disappointed and angry, but I also think that defining moment was essential for his character development. Him realizing on his own that what he wanted for so long (his honor restored by Ozai and his place back on the throne) wasn’t at all what he thought it would be and he lost himself to get there. And he really made amends to the Gaang and was a critical part of ending the war :)
@@alib3208 100% Agree, he had to get everything he thought he wanted to know what he needed. I was still so disappointed and angry at him. That's great storytelling by the creators, they intentionally make you mad at a character, knowing its necessary.
Bro I don't see what is your problem with Zuko if your father scared and send you to capture a legend dissapeared over 100 years ago your natin hates you and the only person that still likes you is your uncle won't you try as hard as you can to regain your place on the throne,to get your father's love and acceptance and there is a chance to get it won't you take it.If I was in his position I wouldn't even join the avatar later.Side note: if Katara healed his scar he would have joined them.
Remember we also didn't get to see new episode for many months after book finale. It was so cruel they did that to us.
@@jz6532 Yeah I remember book 2 ended when I was 9 and in 4th grade before winter break. Then book 3 didn't come out till like the beginning of 5th grade. That is indeed cruel cuz time seems forever when you are a child.

I'll never forget when Aang was defeated by Azula. That was so shocking for me but it also showed how smart Azula was. I think it's missing Ty Lee's betrayal. That was the beginning of Azula's mental breakdown

Crossroads Of Destiny completely blew my 5 year old mind when it first aired lol. I still think it's one of my favorite cartoon episodes of all time. This show aged very well and it's even better when I actually understand all of the themes.
Noah R I was only 9 when it initially aired on December 1, 2006. And it made me stay awake the entire night!

The first time I heard of Avatar Roku being Zuko's great grandfather, I was beyond shocked. No wonder he was fighting his own self
It was more of a pleasant surprise to me. Since, it was for foreshadowed back in Season 1. Aang could never fully explain, why he felt a familial connection to Zuko. He just knew, that in another life, they would have been friends.
I love how katara just causally wipes out the dai lis and zuko in one hit while catching aang
Cinematography from 11:00 on is on point. Zuko was locked in a prison. Iroh has freedom in himself and is at peace
I watched it full through for the second time last year and I love how grounded Iroh is as a character. He is always there in the finales when the characters need him most, always there to help Aang because he knows it is the only way to restore balence.
I was really shocking when Zuko burned Toph feets and to when he could redirect lightning to his father!
I bet Ozai was pretty shocked too. Lol A better question: Do you think Zuko missed on purpose or by accident when redirecting the lightning? (BOTH times, actually, now that I'm thinking about it.)
