Looking back at this, I have no idea how the heck Zuko was able to adjust from seeing them as enemies, constantly thwarting him at every turn, to having to witness their crazy antics up close and personal.
He is a cinnamon roll and became one of the most proficient firebenders later. Meeting the Avatar gang and befriending them is exactly what made him grow up and earn strenght.
