Anton Fürst was unable to return to due to contract he signed with Columbia Pictures, that's part of the reason he killed himself. He also felt guilty for taking all the credit for the art of Nigel Phelps and Julian Caldow, deepening his addiction problems.

It's worth mentioning after modelling it, they realised they didn't to put doors on it for batman to get in, so the sliding canopy was developed after the look of a Harrier Jump Jet to get around this problem.

Awesome job with this video. Of all the on screen attempts the 89 films Batmobile remains THE definitive Batmobile.

100% agree! The cars for Clooney and Val sucked donkey balls. No surprise that their movies sucked too. Only the Tumbler comes close.

@@madrabbit9007 Yeah, but if you park this Batmobile and the Tumbler side-by-side, I think a lot more people will like this version because it looks a lot sleeker and more maneuverable. And the look of the car itself just screams the word "Batman" in everybody's heads.

@@muhammadnaim418 it's funny how the Tim Burton movies were criticized for being too dark, especially the sequel, but it took returning to that theme for the franchise to revive.

Everything is correct as in the textbook. I was born in 1988 and saw the movie as a very young child. I didn't start reading my first comics until 1993-1994 and collecting comics in 1995. The film came first. The movie charmed me, I am Batfan. I love Michael Keaton and Tim Burton. I used to have a Chinese cast of the Batmobile from 1989. Unfortunately, someone in my family threw it out of me. 2 days ago I finally fulfilled my childhood dream and bought a fully functional 89 'Batmobile for the helm. Now the child who still lives in me is fulfilled. Batman Burton forever!

Without a doubt the best batmobile but it wasn't actually black ......ever one seems to think it was..... It was painted in a flip flop color that had purples in it and gave it a nice metallic Sheen but not glossy like the Gaudy paint job they did on the 92 version.... Watch the actual making of the batmobiles documentary.... None of the replicas ever get that right either as well as the rim wheel wells intake an exhaust manifolds are always wrong

This was my all time favorite version of the Batman story. Michael Keaton was the best of them all and should’ve stayed as the character. Didn’t like the ready of them. Gotta say, tho, my #1 fav Batmobile is the 1960’s car from George Barris. This one is at #2. You can keep the rest. The one that looked like a tank was a joke.

Great job on this video! Though I have to give props to the 1966 Batmobile for being amazing at the time, the 1989 Batmobile really took things to a more modern era. Nothing since these two have even come close. They had a really thought out, unique "honest" design. The '66 version while awesome, certainly looks dated now, but they should have kept the '89 version in all the films

Batman Returns is the best Batman film to date, a lot better than the 89 first film.
I can't understand why it got critical reviews and low popularity.
It was the first Batman film I've ever seen too.
And I been blown away by it !!!
The dark tone of Burton arrived in full force and it was awesome.
And Michael Keaton was the best Batman to date too, and the best Bruce Wayne.
Ok, I take Kevin Conroy argument.
But the thing that had me the most ?
Yeh ! The Batmobile !!! Of course.
It left me breathless and I still catch anything I can about it.
Together with The Wraith they are my absolute favourite movie cars.
It was massive disappointment it being replaced in 3rd movie and it gone even worse in 4th.

I think this is the best documentary of the 1989 car, and it's most accurate. The 1992 car, as I understand it, was built by Carl Gasper as the '89 original was too fragile. He is a legendary coach builder (both of horse pulled coaches and automotive customs with horsepower.) Look up "The Undertaker", for instance. I'm so glad I found this video in my feed.

The color used in the first film was dubbed "Flipflop" as it had sight purplish appearances in certain lighting. Its matte finish was very fragile and Kim Basinger's heels would effortlessly scuff it when hopping in and out to the point she had to take her heels off. I prefer this paint to the gloss black for the sequel, though that works as well.

Gritty, massive, and meant for business. It lacks beauty and style of a car...but has it all as the Batmobile of modern times. Nothing after this one ever made much sense or came close to this one. Some were just down right hideous. Great video as always.

Two cars only were made for Batman 1989 using ONE Chevy Impala chassis and ONE Oldsmobile Cutlass chassis. They both had a 'Flip Flop' paint and were never gloss or 'Satin' black. They were 'designed and built' by many people and assembled by John Evans and a highly talented team in around 12 weeks. The #1 Hero car had fabric seats and the #2 car had leather seats. In the earliest shots of the movie, the car had Recaro 'fishnet' type of headrests but these were replaced during production. Keaton's ears were trapped in the canopy and the seat had to be removed to sit him lower. Then the ears on the cowl were shortened. The 'fishnets' and lack of seat, can be clearly seen in the shots with Vikki the first time she gets in the car.
The gloss shiny cars added for Returns were moulded from the originals and then modified. They were narrowed across the rear fenders to facilitate transport issues. Almost all had no interior as they were used for long shots and stunts including the 'turntable clown roasting car'. A separate 'cockpit' from the car was built for close up shots and the owner of this lives in Germany.
Almost all 'Screen used production' cars are misrepresented as such. There were many bodies built after Returns for promotion, touring, display and Six Flags shows. Virtually all known vehicles come from these origins, save one or two 'scratch built' replicas. Far too many replicas are sold as 'screen used' Returns cars and this is simply not true.
WB have both original Batman hero cars, at their facility in Burbank California, USA.
