Charlie is delicate and diligent with that grinder. Sure, he's taking a bit longer because he's not as aggressive just yet but that just means he's careful and wants to do the job right. He's on the right path.

Doing it right and not hurting the cow is the important part. Speed will come. As was pointed out, different parts of the hoof have different hardness levels and learning how much pressure to put on the grinder or knife is something that has to be learned by practice and feel. Those knives are razor sharp. Having one slip off a hard part of the hoof when you weren't prepared could easily gash you or the cow.

Well done Charlie, it’s so important that we encourage and teach younger people. The agricultural industries are desperate for people to enter the workforce, but a lot of people these days don’t want the long hours, hard physical work and being out in all weathers so I love to see young people who are keen.

I think even practicing grinding on bits of wood would be good for Charlie to help with his hesitation and confidence with using the grinder in general. He could draw a hoof on some wood too and practice modelling out with the grinder. I think that once you're more confident with the tools you use, you become more confident in doing any job that needs them.
Definitely love to see him back and see how he gets on! I can imagine his family at Christmas "Merry Christmas Charlie, we got you the official Hoof GP grinding disk" 😂

It is awesome that you provide a mentorship for your customers’ employees. This gives them confidence and also a person they can go to. I know you mentioned in another video you get comments about giving your information to others for free, but this shows how much you care about the day to day care your customers give their cattle, and you and your customers want to give the best care possible. Plus, you are teaching a skill to Charlie that he can grow in.

Charlie is doing well for his 1st day. The way you learn is to ask every single question you have. Sometimes you have a lot to take in an then you need to think it all through in the evening. Then you have 'winner, winner, chicken dinner'. Good for him to want to learn a skill to make him a more valuable employee.
On another note, I can't believe you three had to scrape down that area. Had someone showed up at our place they would not have set foot in it to do anything it would have had to be cleaned to excellent standard before they would think of starting. Just the way they roll around here.

I think all the cattle work staff should have an idea of hoof care and with your help the lives of these cows and bulls will improve greatly. Im glad Charlie is learning from a caring person too.
