Ah! You need to spot! I tried baiting into the SAA a few times and was surprised to see it not doing anything while flying a few feet from it.
I tried spotting a stealth jet and baiting him but the spot lasts for about half a second

I think they made the AA automatic because you can't die while operating them. So, people who are obsessed with their KD ratio would camp in their spawn all game and would die.
+StealthygunnerX ' sounds like an awfully boring way to play the game to me though, you didn't actually get many kills with it either, since not many were stupid enough to fly over it.

whenever im spotted, i die from it instantly, k? i spot an enemy jet, shoot him for 3 runs, get killed, enemy vehicle health 76, despite letting it shoot him for 3 runs...

PS: you can spot jets that follow you while you look backwards in your jet, you just need to hit the Q button while they are in the center of the screen, which can be a bit tricky while circle jerking...
Ahh, that would explain things. When the rear-view camera initially came out I could have sworn I'd spotted people a few times in it, but somehow I could never make it work when I wanted it to. So in the end I just put it down to my imagination.

totally agree with you. I use it to my advantage if I see I'm lose the dogfight or there's 2 jets after me. this works wonderful but when the other jet pilot gets killed in action they say "your a noob pilot, you need the AA to kill you" I just say so what's the purpose of it then just for looks. Some people don't know how to take advantage. Really great vid mate.
Don't listen to those people. A lot of people in conquest maps think you should abide by the unwritten rules of 'Jet Etiquette'. ECM sneaking is a nono, so is using the AA to your advantage.
The reality of the situation is that you need to get the enemy jet pilot dead ASAP and in any way you can, so you can carry on supporting your team and eliminate the threat.
Now I won't say that I don't enjoy a good fair dog-fight, but If people want a fair dogfighting experience Conquest is definitely not the place to find it.

'ECM Sneaking' is popping ECM before you appear on your opponents air radar in order to get behind him and take him down before he even realizes. Often performed while he's busy strafing a ground target.
It is a good equalizer if you are outnumbered or outskilled

yeah ummnn. when im in the attack jet i get outplayed by the stealth jet 9 times out of 10. while using all the manouvers i can think of and when im going the perfect turning speed of 313 for some reason i still get out matched.
and then i retreat towards my base, and the useless snipers do not spot, and the base mobile anti air craft is not paying attention. i just dont see what i was doing wrong and why i have to be punished for it.

Thanks Ghost for this guide ! Last night Ive been killed many many times on Dragon Valley 2015. Actually i had no idea what was behind that. KILLED IN ACTION. That´s all :D The enemy jets were turning back to base after attacks. When I finally figured out, that AA works automatically. I think DICE really fucked up this thing ! They should mention something like, no baserape or return to your area......no warnings just dead... Subscribed !

One time a guy was about to steal my team's chopper. He was parachuting down into our base. I spot him with my sniper and suddenly he died. This informative video explain why :)
please people, only run to the aa though if you are getting locked(or some other safe location) or is fighting a stealth jet, if someone who is decent enough to kill you in a fair 1v1, and you know this, DONT go to the aa, you will only make yourself look dumb and people will hate you for it.
Weird comment mate, Nothing is much fair with War, BF gives you the most real time war experience. if u mad about stuff that happen to you thats not much fair in ur opinion ull have really bad experience overall and might be having prescription to Prozac in no time xD
I don't think it makes you look dumb. The only thing I care about in conquest, is killing the enemy jet anyway I can, be that the AA cannon, missiles from the ground, or at my own hands.
That being said, I also enjoy hopping into a dog-fighting server or Air Superiority and having a fair fight against somebody, but if you think you will find that in Conquest you're gravely mistaken.
the only way to learn to get better at dogfighting however, which pays off is to do it, especially vs someone who's better than you. if everyone just runs to the aa there won't be any progress. you dont earn anything by going there. just saying that if someone is better than you, accept that and don't let the game kill him for you by running to the aa and frontshooting him or whatever on the way back.
That's just clever playing mate.
Anyhow, you know how I play, the vast majority of the time, I'll straight up dog-fight. But sometimes you realize mid-dogfight (especially if you're in the AJ and the opponent is in the SJ), that you're just not going to catch the guy, so what you should just except your death? I'd much rather do whatever in my power to try to stay alive until the end.
running to aa whilst a stealth is chasing you, im fine with that and i do it myself. but vs another attack jet and in a fair fight, and you know hes winning, i would never run to the aa, because hes better than me and deserved the kill
If you shoot a TV guide middle within the range of the stationary AA it shoots you and hurts your character (inside attack boat for me)

remember in the first few months of BF4 it didn't need spotting and shot any enemy in range an it stopped people from stealing enemy aircraft an now it doesn't so people can fly to the enemy base and steal any aircraft they want.

When you have someone after you: Fly right towards your spawn. When close to spawn, right click to look behind u so you can spot the enemy jet on your 6, aaaand he's down.

DICE never really explain any of the things in BF. There are so many major things you have to learn yourself, via trial and error, before you know how the systems work. It leads to frustration for players as well, like you pointed out the AA just gives you a KIA message which is not going to teach you any of the mechanics.
Yeah, I think it's rather silly on their part, I can't really imagine why they don't make the game engine detect this as a weapon. It just counts as being killed by part of the levels environment, the same as if you'd crash into a tree.
Wow. When I was learning to fly and dogfight, I was always going over the home base, hoping someone in the AA would get the jet behind me. I had no idea it was an automated turret. I know that in BF3, I would jump in it from time to time when I noticed too many enemies were flying our base. I think for BF4, the developers could have made it battle pickup like the RAWR, and make it usable to players for a short time. It would just be automated when no one was using it. But, that might have been too hard to program :/ Well, thanks for the information, Ghost :)

Dogfights can get really awkward when abusing the base aa:
-I go for an enemy jet, he retreats to his base
-I ignore him and continue my business, he goes straight for me
-I attempt to dogfight him, he immediately flies towards base again. Rinse and repeat.
This usually happens when trying to fight attack jet pilots who are so obsessed with their kd that they don't even want to risk dying in a dogfight

@@GhostGamingg which works on maps where camping aa's and stealth jets and helicopters aren't as present. On firestorm I already have a hard time dealing with the aa which sits next to the starionary aa. If I don't manage to kill the attack jet in one go, he will usually retreat to his base where attack helicopters, aa and other enemies just wait for you. It's not impossible to beat those jets, just annoying

In my opinion DICE has also Overlooked the Front melee system. If u r the attacker shouldn't u have the upper hand? But in BF4 u r at the mercy of enemy being attacked if he counters or not lol. There must be some kind of over counter system or QTE system no? ^.^
Shame it’s terrible on Shanghai conquest. Constantly getting trapped in there thanks to the attack heli sweat. AA doesn’t even scratch him
what should happen is: once you get so close to it eg 400m and you have been spotted it should say in the cockpit of the jet "being targeted by enemy AA" (same place where it says countdown for counter measures) then as you get closer eg 250m it automatically start to shoot you.
That's an excellent idea, would be the easiest thing to implement too. A different pitch/frequency of beeping than the missile warning system would be cool too.

Would spotting from the jet chase camera be unfair? Because it would save me in many situations and let the aa turret to shoot my chaser down.
You can actually spot from the chase camera, it's happened to me a few times, but I can't get it to happen consistently.
Still today i see Level 140 attack jet pilots on naval strike taking my team out with jdams. But when im attacking them there are flying straight to their aa instead of dogfighting me and im like " im not falling for this shit" and fly up to 600-800 Meters til he flies away and attack him then again.

Caio Oliveira No worries Caio! As far as I know, ECM doesn't prevent people from spotting you, it only prevents people locking you on.

Perhaps to you and me, I'm going to guess you have plenty of experience playing BF games, and Battlefield 4. But to newer players, this may not be obviously blatant to them at all.
Yeah, sure. It surprised me the first couple of times but I was just assuming there wouldn't be that many new players after a year and a half.

Would have been better if bf3 system was in place. One place to feel safe is your base camp but enemy planes can strike there too in bf4 inspite being spotted. This is extremely annoying and unfair.
i killed someone with the aa on bf4 once and when i say killed it literally showed that i killed the guy in the killscreen with the name of the stationary aa that killed the guy (it only append once)

Do you like it automatic i dot because its purpose us to stop spawn camping by air vehicles for example if a jet or heli is killing everything coming put of the spawn in that case you need it but if you getting chased by a jet on Paracelsus storm not trying to spawn camp and it kills you thats annoying because you were not spawn killing. I wish it was manned so players could use it if they were getting spawn camped but it would have limited range so it wasn't shooting cross the map but would help spawn killing
The funny thing is, it doesn't actually prevent you from base-raping the enemy jets as they spawn in, since they spawn way behind this AA cannon, instead of on the runway like in BF3.
Ya i wish it was player controlled like on paracel storm on the back of the air craft carrier plus if a jet is spawn rapping you could hop in t and stop him but now there is no way to stop it and it is annoying

Does a SOFLAM help with that spotting? I've been playing support-spot recon (mav & SOFLAM) and been deploying SOFLAMs at base for no reason, no one stupid enough to fly on yet.

BTW, if u see the enemy jet retreating back to hes base and to this Auto AA, follow him by using the air radar and just fly very high aprox. to the sky limit (i really dont remember the exact altitude) even if u spotted it range will not effects you and the funny thing is that the enemy thinks ur right behind him but actually u dont c him visual cuz ur very high - pull ECM he thinks ur dead cuz of the Auto AA pulls back and ur right behind his ass saying where does he want it?
Hahahaha, what a funny idea mate. Totally makes sense, if there a new pilot it will almost definitely work. However, you quickly get the feel for if you're not at the same altitude level as another pilot as I'm sure you know. Vapour trails disappear and you have no visual clues, in free-look or rear-view, you can pretty much bet he's above or below you.

I forgot to mention that it is only apply on unexperience pilots cuz the pros and the respected ones will engage in a dogfight. they newbies also unaware of the rear view look, well maybe they know now thanx to ur awesome channel, you just reveal too much already, some must left untold xD

Lock on weapons needs a reasonable distance between target, my guess u were just too far in some point.

Would the quick unspot field upgrade from the recon class actually help you in your jet regarding to the stationary aa? Since it only kills you when you are spotted...
Or dont field upgrades count in the jet itself?
Very good question, I think field upgrades only go for infantry unless otherwise stated.

pulling ECM unspot u from radar and 3D but still this AutoAA can shoot u until u dead or far from radios.
i wish the AA burst fires to give us the time to turn back, but no, 100% accuracy and tears you down before you even realize what's hitting you.
no, you have plenty of time to leave, ive seen it alot i spot a jet trying to spawn kill and he just turns away and leaves as soon as he gets hit by the base aa the most damage it really did to him was 50. so really the base aa only punishes the noob pilots.
But..i am not that bad, certain maps like when on zavod it's the worst for the choppers, because as soon as you get past the middle points you get harrassed by the base AA, combine that with a couple of a-holes stingers and a tryhard tank and you will have a hard time skilled or not.
Wind Element choppers cant get away, but jets can. if they changed it that wuld mean jets would spawn camp.
Agerix Official yeah i know, i mean now i kind of memorized the no-no area for choppers to not go to on every vanilla maps so it is less of a hassle, but i feel the chopper pilots are underpowered or more precisely doesn't have enough armor points in comparison of all the threats we have to deal with. The attack chopper is the worst, the gunner has more firepower and accuracy than the main guns for a pilot which is bullshit.
Wind Element its not bull shit. the job of the driver isnt to kill infantry. thats the gunners job. your job as the driver is taking out armor which your choice of zuni or hydra are very very good at. both of your options are better then your gunners main weapon at taking out vehicles. you can also equip the tow missile for armor as well if you have not already.
i fly the attack heli it is my favorite heli in the game. and i get pretty good results if im working with a gunner.

No, you can't sit inside it and shoot at targets. It will automatically fire at air targets spotted by your team.

im not hurt im just tired of that response... I tried to use keys only and i could fly, but not shoot. Roll in mouse just doesnt work but ill give more effort to it cuz this bug really destroys my capability to destroy any land targets that are to my left
J Dinis I've always stuck with the default controls for mouse/keyboard, ie roll with mouse, A+D to yaw. Works fine for me, I'd recommend it :)

bf2 had base rape, it was part of the game; and the stationary aa was destroyable, along with the commander assets. i loved those mechanics. i loved being a spec ops guy going in to harras the enemy commander and i loved being a commander and trying to keep my base secure. i wish dice would just play bf2 and 2142 for inspiration.
That may have worked in BF2, but if that were the case in BF4, I would rule the skies, and so would any other good jet pilot.
There would literally be no chance for the enemy team to take you down unless you gave it to them. Even if they had the best dog-fighter in the world it wouldn't mean anything if you could just kill him on the run-way, as you could in previous BF games. That's also the reason that jets spawn in the sky now.
I hate the current mechanics of the stationary AA, and retreating towards it is a bitch move. Just saying.
as an attack jet pilot you cant do anything other then that when a stealth jet is trying to kill you.
i always lose to that fucking thing. no mater how many complex manouvers i do. and my turn speed was at 313, which is supposed to be the best. so i want to know why the stealth jet wins when m the one with more skill. just yesterday i lost to a level 30 that was using the stealth jet. and i did everything right, and in a last ditch effort i return to base expecting the snipers and the vehicles leaving my spawn to spot the guy. needless to say none of them spotted him and i died above my own base.

You have fun getting wrecked by a jet that has an innate advantage over you, whilst abiding by your unwritten rules of 'jet etiquette'.

you shouldnt be losing position in first place and if you have its your fault and you're trying to fix it by hiding behind the AA , a crutch for bad or lazy pilots
DANNY_EIRE 'Shouldn't be losing position'? You do realize the Stealth Jet has a huge advantage over the Attack Jet right? So is he cheating because he uses that to his advantage? What about a 1-on-1 tank fight and one of them has a repair man? Would you be equally annoyed by him too?
You will get shot by the AA in dog-fights, you will get hit by Stingers/Iglas in dogfights, the enemy jet will use ARMs and get an easy kill. These are just a few of the 'unfair' things you have to live with if you play public Conquest. Do you think a real war is fair?
If you ask me, it'd be your own fault for actually falling for a trick like flying back to the AA cannon.
I do get where you're coming from man, it's refreshing to actually come up against a good pilot sometimes, you have a nice little dog-fight somewhere out over the ocean, you're both in the same jet and nobody/nothing interrupts it, nice and fair. If you lose, it's no biggy. You watch your death screen with a smile on your face, knowing your opponent was better or simply outsmarted you, but you gave it your best.
However, consider this. You've just spent a good 5-10 minutes of time dog-fighting, when you could have simply scissored towards a group of infi with stingers or the MAA, and made a much quicker job of it. Would that be fair? No, But it sure as hell would help your team out a lot more, 5 minutes of wrecking the enemy vehicles in an attack jet is a long time. I mean sure, you're free to play the game however you like, but what justifies a pilot being engaged in a dogfight for 10 straight minutes, anymore than those recon players who sit at the deployment, sniping off into the distance?
There are plenty of dog-fighting or Air Superiority servers out there, and I often use them, to dogfight a friend, or just have a fun dogfighting experience. If you're joining Conquest looking for fair dog-fighting experiences like that, you should probably look elsewhere.
GhostGaming i do , i fly both jets well , in attack i will always keep an eye for stealth spawn and kill it as soon as i can (headon if needs be) , in a tank battle its about positioning (you can use splash damage to kill a repairer) , i dont follow the enemy back to their spawn , i fly back to middle of the map and its frustrating because they are weak pilots who use this , needing a buddy on the floor with stingers is another crutch and i always try to get higher in a dogfight to take the AA/missiles out of the equation , and looking at your dogfight videos no wonder you do use these cheap tricks.....
