I watch these roundhouse videos multiple times a year you guys are great
My grandfather and two brothers built sod houses in western North Dakota of the USA when they emigrated from Norway about 1910. We used to visit the spot when kids and pick the bottles out of the trash pile. My sister has their original buckboard seat from a horse drawn wagon.
I missed this livestream so I'm watching now. Great Q and A session, I've been watching this build with interest. 👍

Ahh you are Dutch! It's been driving me nuts trying to work out your accents! I thought Irish or German but not quite! This also explains your height, you both look tall.! All my Dutch friends were tall! Kudos for all your hardwork! Hope it turns out well. Big TA outdoors fan! A collab/ meeting in both your roundhouses, good idea!

TBH I WOULD suggest putting a sign up explaining what's going on and asking people to try to avoid making a mess or taking things from the area

Suggestion! After you have Completed the roundhouse, go out on Saturdays when there will be more children and people on the trails,
Wasn't done! Dumb phone! Anyway, when the most folks are about over the noon hour and early afternoon, have a fire and roast sausages over the fire and sell them to the hikers... Give tours and tell the children about the history of such buildings. Dress like the period. Get creative...

Very cool and this project has been great to watch. I was wondering. Why use only one type of thatch? The more airy open type for the very top and the thicker for heat preservation and wind resistance for the rest. I doubt ancient people cared about appearance. Keep up the great work!!
Great Vids, I did not get to watch live. But as you were speaking on thatch or heather, Thatch with the reeds are probably the right choice, and smoke will rise thru it while coating it with the smoke preserving it even longer and rain will run off of it better than the many holding areas of heather. Also why the roofs were so tall is that the smoke will congregate there as it slowly works its way through the reed also eradicating wee critters that may want to live up there. Fresh air should stay maybe 6 or 7 feet above your head.

Oh, your stone foundation for the upright poles is actually also historic. Time Team has many programs on Iron Age settlements and found stones in the floors of roundhouses to hold inner poles for things like you want to do. They could also be used in the larger roundhouse for privacy since they had multiple generations and couples living together, maybe anywhere from a dozen to even 20 or more. haha, I love History and Archeology, a total amateur, but love it and study it. Even creating builds in Virtual worlds as a hobby and even sold many.

You guys should be collecting Thomas's leftovers in a stockpile for a genuine Celtic garden. I'm sure they grew veges near their homes and used poo for fertiliser. And Thomas is a poo factory - better and safer than you guys, anyway.

very nice video. I just have a question regarding the Gränsfors Bruk Axes, because I'm thinking of getting one. I'm pretty sure you said in a video, that your axe tends to hold an edge not as well as Dylan's older model Gränsfors, but I couldn't find the video anymore, so I'm quite unsure. Did you actually said that and do you still think that way? Or is it just a weird memory of mine. Keep up the quality work.

Here in the states, if people want a mule at all, they seem to fixate on getting the biggest mule possible. You should look up the Giant Donkeys. They are of course, half the equation of giant draft mules...
At any rate, Thomas is beautiful, and I would love to see a video about where you got him, and how the early training went.
