Got a heads up for you. To stop the temp shock and glass breaking you need a heat shrink. Its as easy as a spoon or knife put in the jar you are heating. Cold temperature is what causes your glass jars and bottles to break in the fire. Grandma taught me that . Put spoon in then boiling water and it won't break. Same when heating up water. Its a glass thang. Ha Ha Boil them acorns.
Very smart using the fish leavings to flavor the soup. It can add a ton of richness, umami flavors, and vitamins to the dish and it also means nothing gets wasted.
This wild foraged meal looks absolutely fantastic! I’m actually a fan of roasted cattail root. They’re like the sweet potato of the forest. The fish looks amazing too! You fellows did a really great job making this meal! My only regret is that I’m unable to taste what was made. Generally speaking your videos are very inspiring and I now look forward to trying to make something comparable the next time I go wilderness camping. Take care and as always, I look forward to seeing another one of your videos! Cheers!
You defo need to get the drag tightened up on that reel your using mate!!! And get a landing net too it's better for the fish and make s your life a lot easier, just Incase you have to put the fish back in the lake it's loads better for it!!!
Great video guys, very interesting! Nice to hear Mark there with you at the end, I have just finished his book ‘The Way Home’ after hearing about it when you interviewed him Julius. Tell him I thoroughly enjoyed it! Looking forward to your next video. Cheers Danny , South Australia
Awonderful video. This is what bushcraft is! Just amazing. I was shocked to hear the foraging season for beech nuts and chestnuts was poor. Here in Slovenia, this year's autumn season was just wonderful and plentiful. Many mushrooms as well, chestnuts, acorns and beechnuts were in abundance.
Dog rose is really nice after the first frost and can they remain good up to January. My tip too eat them quick on the goo ist to squeeze the soft purée through the end and enjoy
Ooow de kastanjes!!! Love them so much!!! 🥰 Ik maak kastanjepuree, kastanjetaart, kastanjeburgers, spruitjes met kastanjes, kastanjecompote, kastanje hachee, pasta met paddenstoelen noten en kastanjes, kastanjebrood.. Love love looooove kastanjes!!!
Great content, thank you guys! We have had a poor harvest in central England this year too, I've made less than 10 gallons of wine and not been able to collect beech masts or chestnuts at all. A friend tells me the country law about preparing pike was to bury them in horse dung for a week before digging them up, throwing them away and eating the dung. I'll reserve judgement having never tried either. We have American signal crayfish, an invasive species, in pretty much all of our waterways, any chance you have them there? A bramble basket trap and some nice stinky bait could get you a decent meal. Thanks again keep it up.
@@SmoothGefixt Just a joke right enough. Glad to hear they haven't taken over there, to my shame I've never visited Ireland buy I know one place I'll visit if I ever do. Hope Sinterklaas visits you in your adopted home!
I've figured out that one of the most abundant thing easy to collect in the forest is actually moss, bugs and earthworms. Bugs are actually my favourite, roasted. But it need proper cooking or you might get sick. Same with all forest foods.
Earthworms actually contains 80% protein and 7% fat (omega 3 lipids) per weight. Which is better than some meats. Its just as nutritionus as Salmon. Which is one of the most healthiest fishes to eat.
I've also researched how animals get their salts and vitamins, and actually they do whats called "mineral licking", so they dig up clay and lick it. Seafloor clay deposits are the best source of potassium, calcium ane all your other minerals. So add to your dish some clay in a survival situation could save your life! xD be careful and only dig unexposed clay, safest is to boil if you dont understand the becterial fauna as i do.
@@SmoothGefixt one way is to dig up an ants nest and expose the eggs, then the ants will carry the eggs into piles in the shade to protect them (supply them with some shade on a tarp for example), then you just scoop up the eggs/larvae
Dia duibh guys! Great video, especially the intro from above watching you canoeing... keep up a good spirit, a good job and especially stay safe within this crazy pandemic
Great job guys. Have you considered redoing some of your earliest challenges to see if you would perform better? I believe that you would enjoy the mountains of East Tennessee where I am fortunate enough to call home. Thanks for all the hard work.
I think here in Australia only the oxalis and cat-tails are common... But there are many different plants here that are just as good as the ones you find in Europe.
And they are probably not even native there(?) ;) North-America, Europe & Asia have reltatively similar flora, australia very diferent phytogeograpic region
They have similar amount of protein as other meats, with their small sizes I don't think they will worth it anytime soon, although that one in the video surely was big...!
Might be just the companion, its decent!, Great for the price, but the edge rolls easily enough, at the end of the day not the greatest steal, but what could you expect for such good price
@@SmoothGefixt Thanks! I love your videos and have been making my own bushcraft camp in my local woods. I decided to get the companion hd in the end. I've been learning knife maintenance as well. In frame 16:55 it looks like u have Laqorise Root, they taste very bitter but are high in sugars. I make tea of them sometimes.
I really like the comment about taking no more than 1/3 of an edible patch to save some for wildlife and some for reproduction

Love how they add subtitles for parts when we can't hear due to some sound disturbs👍
It's also because they speak Dunglish. :p
