My brother worked as a NYC cop for an entire year in downtown Manhattan, following the 9/11 attacks. Dave had an apartment in that area and was extremely generous in providing a great deal of fine food and drinks for all of the first responders. He also visited with them and thanked them for their work. Made a point in keeping this quiet and without any publicity, as is his way. A real class act.

I watched Dave faithfully for many years. It was heartbreaking for me when he ended his run on late night. The man is one of a kind. What made him so funny is the fact you never know what is going to come out of his mouth. He's incredibly intelligent and goofy which made his interviews all the more engaging. He could make most mundane guest interesting. He's interviewed Presidents and other heads of state then turn a 180 and interview Paris Hilton!! Yes, he did poke fun of some of them but that's his way. I just love the work he does now. He has an incredible presence and still has that sharp sense of humor that makes him so unique. Loves that he refers to Jimmy as "James". LoL!!!!
