      What’s so weird about that? Like you’re never going to look back at a specific time in your life(if you haven’t already)and immediately have some of your best memories? Sure, there’s a ton of quality entertainment now but at the same time, there’s also some of the worst entertainment as well. Nothing “weird” about that!

      the last video package they made a great job at conveying the real emotion that most felt, a legend that went on and on and on while others left he stayed he'd been through different presidents different decades different states of the world the 1 constant of Tv was 'Letterman' and the video conveys that very well I feel.

      Got to see it twice over the final year it was on the air. The day the final episode was taped, I (and many others) hung out by the stage door to see who'd come out. The only one I still remember clear as day was a beaming Taylor Hawkins (man that guy had a smile that could light up Times Square) who waved to the crowd before getting in his car and driving off.

      @CheeseSteakJim 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      that's a tradition. talk show hosts need a "sidekick" of sorts to bounce jokes off of when they don't have a guest to joke with. Fallon has the Roots, Conan (used to) have La Bamba, Letterman had Paul, Johnny Carson had Ed McMahon. Now Conan has Andy again, like he did on the original Tonight Show in the early 90's. You might not get it, but it's been done by nearly every talk show in the past 50 years.

    While watching this, for some reason it crossed my mind to check and see if Dave's mom was still with us. Her appearances on the show were always very enjoyable. She came across as a very warm, genuine, good person. Sadly, she left us earlier this year, aged 95. That's the kind of innings in cricket that'll earn a warm ovation, sometimes even standing, as you make your way to the pavilion.

    As much as David would like to think his show had no viewers, it did. Though he has a dry sense of humor he is genuine and real to the core. So with that said, you do not stay on the air 33 years if you suck and Late Night will not be the same without him. Congrats on your retirement Dave you deserve it! Thanks for always being there when I turned on the TV when there was nothing else to watch at that moment.

    I watched this episode live, re-watched in on the CBS website the next day, and am watching it again now. But by god if I don't well up a little every time I see it. The end of an era, the loss of a legend. He is one of the most important people to ever be on television. When Stewart left, I was crushed. Same with Colbert, Ferguson, etc. But there is no one that did it like Dave and he meant a lot to me even though I never met the guy, never will, and will probably never see him on TV again. Norm is my favorite comedian, and his goodbye to Letterman is exactly how I felt. Dave gave so much to us throughout an amazing career.
    Anyway, enough with the sap.

    • @lopan9748
      @lopan9748 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      TheOnlyRealJohn I agree with everything. You hit the nail on the head. Norm is also my favorite comedian. Have you seen his video podcast? In my opinion. its the funniest thing on the screen since the early Late Show days.And, he just recorded an episode interviewing Letterman. It hasn't aired yet, but its coming up. But if you haven't seen it, there are two full seasons (youtube it). Greatest show ever. And its hard to explain to younger people just how important and influential Dave's show was. Letterman actually changed the way people interact in society. There is no one in entertainment more important. I love Conan, but Letterman will always be the king!
