    I am fishing with sand fleas for Pompano. It was a struggle finding the sand fleas in the surf but they turned out to be efficient! I end up catching some pompano on the fleas and fishing bites. I do also go visit some viewers and do a little bit of fishing with them as well! We catch a few whiting together. Stay Bummy!!

    How about a test with barbless C hooks? I've crushed the barb on C hooks for a long time. Are my losses higher? - probably, is it worth it? - yes ( I'm soft-hearted) and, think - catfish. One can bend just the very tip of the barb to make an arch, still seeing light under a 'hump'. This hump serves as the barb. I'm using it now, like today! on 1-0 and 2-0 C hooks. Caught two small Pompano in mid August in Melbourne and no catfish got off.

    Ok what's the deal. Last week you could walk without stepping on them yesterday I couldn't find one. We did have a cold snap and a front was moving in. Is this the reason? Also I'm used to scooping In the backwash of the wave but I just found a video where the guy walked the beach untill he came across a rough patch in the sand and he scooped in the sand not the back wash and got tons. Any help is appreciated.

    I have had no luck finding sand fleas so far. Fresh shrimp seems to work best followed by the fish bites. I go to the fish bites when my bait keeps getting stolen. That stuff is not coming off the hook.

    • @BamaBeachBum
      @BamaBeachBum  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I take the same approach. Fishbites are a must for the beach!

  • @peterwallace9764

    I wish my rods would go off as regularly as the bites you're getting. I don't think we have sand fleas in Oz either. Dig up pippies on the beach (muscle shell fish). 😃🇦🇺🎣🐟😃

      Did a bit of Googling & apparently we do have sand fleas in Oz (known as Mole Crabs). A term I did hear on TH-cam but I gained the impression they might be further up the coast. Never seen them nor heard of them until watching TH-cam. Seems like they may be a good bait. 👍🏻😃🎣🐟🇦🇺🇦🇺

    Nice video Bummy!! Love it. So last week I tried some of ur fish bites and did well. Caught a few whiting a big pin fish, but just couldn't locate any pomp or reds. My question is I went down and fished off of Dauphin island and saw ZERO sand fleas. It was 2 days after Hurricane Michael blew through. Do you think this had an effect on the sand fleas? Ive just started my surf fishing adventures and need some tips on time of year, location, etc...Thanks and STAY BUMMY!!

    • @BamaBeachBum
      @BamaBeachBum  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right now we are still catching a decent amount of whiting. The pompano are still around but few and far between. The occasional black drum has started showing up as well. This pattern will probably continue for a while.

    • @alanjohnson8396
      @alanjohnson8396 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Sir. I'm primarily an artificial lure angler but am adding Pompano and Whiting with live bait to my techniques this year. My research shows hook sizes from #2 to #3/0 with Circle and Kahle seemingly being the most popular. Hence my question and I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I recently found your channel and am enjoying your videos.

    • @mattsloan32
      @mattsloan32 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For Pompano and Whiting use a small circle hook. IMHO the smaller the better. They have small mouths and the less metal you are trying to get them to eat the better.

    • @RadReelingFishing

    • @BamaBeachBum
      @BamaBeachBum  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sina khun unfortunately yes. There are 2 species of saltwater catfish: 1. Hard heads and 2. Sailcats or gafftop sail cat. Neither one is a desirable catch. Sailcats are pretty good to eat but both are just considered a trash fish. They are not like the channel cats or blue cats in fresh water.
