  • In this video, I'll provide 5 helpful tips for surf fishing with sand crabs in So Cal. We use a light tackle set up featuring an 8'6" rod and a 4000 series reel with 15 pound test and a size 2 mosquito hook. There's a lot that goes into surf fishing in San Diego, but realistically, you can make it as simple or as complex as you want.

      You’ll still catch fish depending on the conditions but you’ll typically catch less fish, your like will get swept around, and when you do catch you’ll gut hook more often. Why do you cast that way? Don't you want to keep a hand on the bottom of the rod to get a bend in the rod as you cast to maximize distance and accuracy?

    • @surffishinginsocal
      @surffishinginsocal  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was purposely casting short so distance wasn’t necessary. I have a “unique” casting technique in general though. It started when I was throwing lucky crafts on a shorter rod. In order to get max distance, I would start with a twirl to make sure:
      1) that the weights were balanced
      2) that there was no accidental chance for slack to occur
      3) for a little added momentum
      And then I really focus on bend in the vs arm movement. I found that I could cast just as far as most who use their whole body when I would just use my wrists. Played a lot of hockey so it made sense to me. Might not be the easiest thing to understand or pick up but that’s how I cast a lot of the time now🤷‍♂️

  • @IEatMyCatch

    Do you ever fish during the day? I work mornings and evenings so middle of the day is usually the only time I have to fish besides at night. I have decent luck sometimes but most the time I find myself asking “is it not the right time?!” “Is it too hot?” “Is it not the ride tide?”. I have been following your website and TH-cam for a year or so now and I feel I haven’t dialed in surf fishing. I’ve got poles for every situation almost down to the fish. Using all the right tackle and I end up snagged or line twisted before I can even get a bite. You make it look so easy bro, lures are almost automatically a no go for me besides in bays and harbors because of my failed attempts at trying them

    • @surffishinginsocal
      @surffishinginsocal  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lures take time and luck at first to really click. You’ll get it if you keep grinding. Yes I fish day time too. You can have just as much success. Only issue is crowds sometimes but yah not a problem at all

    Its simple reel the😂😂😂slack

    • @surffishinginsocal
      @surffishinginsocal  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      🤦‍♂️you clearly missed the purpose of that. By reeling in, you move your bait in closer and closer to shore. By moving your rod tip up when you feel slack and dipping it down when you feel pulling current, you’re able to maintain proper tension the entire time and not reel a single time, keeping your bait where you want it. It’s something you pick up as you gain experience🤙
