Great review. On first take, the video quality looks superior to that of filmic pro plus their focus and iso pull is more easily accessible on screen without obstructing into the record menu area. The down side is the subscription and lack of support.
Thanks so much! Yes I thought the image looked much nicer but I couldn’t quite tell why. The lack of support is the main reason I am unlikely to subscribe past the first year mark. If they change that dramatically and explain things like their gimbal compatibility clearly with tutorials ect then I may be fully converted. It’s so close to being brilliant but a few niggles still.
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker the low light performance was also way better than filmic. Maybe they are applying some smart AI algorithms? I hate subscriptions too. I’d rather make a one time payment and be done with it.

Thank you! I’ve noticed that when you have the app on a iPhone Xs (🦕) there is no option for Portrait under the Pro modes. Sad, but hope this helps other old phone users.

I'm hoping I can use this setup in the forest on a portable wireless LAN without the need to access the internet where there is no signal? Very grateful for your advise.👏🙏
Hey. Sorry I haven't actually used that feature yet. You can with Filmic Pro so I'd imagine can with Protake.
Can i take photos with this app? If not, what app do u recomend for photos only

Very good review Rob, so saved my money, I found that almost all filing apps works the same so Beastcam could be one of the best choices. I would like to ask you some questions: 1. Is the gimbal fully integrated like in filmic pro? (you can control everything from the gimbal) 2. Support for 1.55x anamorphic ? 3. I would like to ask you to film some footage on log or Alexa profiles so I can test the curves in Davinci because in my opinion what all mobile apps do in log profiles is not really true, is just desaturate so you can later apply a lut. Thanks so much Nacho! Beastcam is an excellent choice. 1. The settings give you the option to use Protake with a Zhiyun gimbal however is doesn't say which type and there are literally no tutorials out there to learn from either so I would save your money for the time being at least until that becomes clearer. 2. It does not support 1.55x Anamorphic which is a little odd. 3. Pay me that top dollar and i'll go out and get some shots. lol : )
Unfortunately I gambled the one year subscription and lost. I paid so I could connect to my Smooth 5. So far I have been unsuccessful connecting. The gimbal has been out over a year so one would think there’s been enough time. I plan on leaving a scathing review on the App Store and possibly reporting it as fraud.
I have just subscribed to the Pro version and it seems to work with many of th DNJ Osmo6 gimbal functions. This is new to me as well so I am stillexperimenting. Just thought I would let you know about the Dmj gimbal
Hi. I have a Redmi ohone which has this feature built in however, When using dual camera recording and you have the phone set to a windscreen mount in the car the road and everything from the main camera is very shaky. All I can think is that these apps cut off the stabilization facility within the phone. Have you ever tested this?. Thanks
I can only imagine you would need a high end car mount (if you don't already have one). As mobiles are so light shakes are a lot more apparent in these filming situations. You can play with post editing stabilisation. That's probably the next best bet.
Hi, I was searching for a good app for shooting with my anamorphic lens (I'm a complete novice and only just purchased it!) I've subscribed to pro take pro, any ideas why I can only get up to 30fps and don't have 3 stabilisation options, just on or off...
Not heard of the issue before. I'd try uninstalling and then reinstalling the app.

Quite possibly. Most apps are geared towards ios devices more in mind.@@pearsy4

How do you save videos from protake to gallery on a samsung s24 ultra? When I click to save, it only gives me an option to whatsapp or save to google photos.
Filming pro glitches and is 10x the price.
Any help would be appreciated.

@@SmartphoneFilmmaker after a bunch of test, and if Dynamic Range is your goal, I’ve gotten the most dynamic range out of StaCam set to V-log, but the bitrate was maxed at 48mbs h.265, seems based on videos that this would be close to 16+ stops of DR on your phone

@@SmartphoneFilmmaker that vlog is hard to grad and too mushy looking. ProCam8 or Protake is better for sure, and better DR over filmic pro

As far as I am aware. Yes. You can try out the free version to be 100% sure.

I can’t seem to get it to work with my smooth 5s
I have had the exact same issue. Due to this and the lack of customer support I no longer use this app although some people have stuck with it.
It would not work with my Smooth 5. I requested and got a refund from Apple.
@@jayplatt8798 Yeah the customer support for Protake is non existent. Not cool at all.
Do you think it is better than Cinema p3?
It is smoother to use but I prefer Cinema P3. Cinema P3 is also a one off payment whereas Protake is subcription although Protake does have the useful remote feature.

Thanks. Yeah it runs very smoothly but the lack of online presence/customer service means I won't be renewing my subscription.
Unfortunately Protake logC profile is nothing more than just a low-contrast and low-saturated “insta” filter applied to the footage having nothing to do with real logarithmic profile. It doesn’t give you wider dynamic range.
Oh that's a shame! It does still look marginally better than Filmic Pros Log profile to my eyes. Maybe in a next gen phone some day.

Normally you can only switch it on/off. And you know how Protake looks work - they are just filters))

I still think Filmic Pro is the best overall app and they are easy to contact whereas Protake have pretty much no way of contacting them. Protake is very good and cheaper for subscription so it might be worth trying Protake for a year as the first year is half price.

Oh damn. That's really strange.
@@SmartphoneFilmmaker In addition to the lag, in the evaluation version, it hung several times between videos without giving me access to record, and sometimes did not even save the supposedly recorded videos. I'm not sure if it's a problem with my phone (Motorola g60s) but with other apps, like Open Camera, in 4k with high bit rates there are no errors. A pity because from what little I saw, it seems worth the cost.
I’ve got the paid version, it has no option for 4k, 1080p only, so far waste of money.
That's strange. In Pro or Auto mode resolution is in the top left. Tap on that and then the menu should appear bottom of the screen to change to 1080p or 4k. Otherwise uninstalling and then re-installing the app may work. Unfortunately as mentioned in the video their customer service is strangely non existent.
Better than filmic pro✋
I do like it a lot however the zhiyun smooth gimbal connecting in the settings seems to have no way of actually working. Very strange.
