21 years later and this game still rocks my socks off! Really enjoyed playing through this with the ReShade which I think added a fresh look to the game (especially loved the lighting!). I know some people will expect more when they see the title but I guess you can't please everyone. Anyway, I thought it looked great and the gameplay has aged really well! Shooting feels satisfying and movements don't feel clunky at all, especially on PC. Can't wait for the Max Payne Remakes coming in a couple years or so!

I moved from America to Eastern Europe back in 2003. Those first few weeks were difficult because I had no friends and did not speak the local language. My only connection to my roots were Max Payne and Halo. When I was feeling isolated I could simply boot up my laptop and see New York City and hear English being spoken. I soon found friends and even a wife, so things smoothed out eventually, but Max and Master Chief were there to help me through the dark days.
Yeah I love it when games do this. After a bad breakup I bought Red Dead Redemption 2 and a playstation, just sat there, completed it, and felt slightly better about life afterwards. My main regret now was not taking my time with Red Dead!
MY LORD, MY LADY always loved the texture work on this game. even with the lower geometry architecture, the game felt immersive for the time. the audio engine still does sound like people talking on the other side of a door. I still find it funny the beretta gun model is the most intricate asset in the game. the fact you can see the slide move in unison with the ejection/round exiting the barrel in amazing harmony is a level of detail you didn't see in any game during this time.
Max Payne is one of the best games of the time. I've played it many times. Sometimes I go through it again, just like the first time. Thanks for the video!

I still can’t believe James McCaffrey is passed away and it’s crazy because I was just thinking earlier this year. I’m so glad he’s coming back to voice Max Payne and I can’t wait till the game comes out and I really hope he doesn’t pass away and that’s exactly what happened, I’m really sad. He was an amazing actor and voice actor.

Fantastic Game, incredible story, the action scenes, the soundtrack.... It was like something John Woo created, that modern stylized Noir... Wish they would make another (and way better movie) of this story and give it the justice it deserves
I played all levels and then finished the hidden mission , I was so mastered in shooting , I dropped bodies with lowest amount of ammunition and painkillers ahaha what a game never dies !

This game was something else back then, the cold, brutal story with all of its twists and turns, masterfully crafted in a way that very few games even today struggle to achieve, comined with revolutionary gameplay mechanics that influeced many other games, it's attempts at realism (i still cringe and laugh at Vinnie running so fast and doing insane acrobatic jumps while leaving a massive trail of blood from a 9mm on his chest 🤣what Valkyr does to a MF) bullet casings and magazines staying in the ground, sprays and decals everywhere, interesting and sometimes silly interaction with the world (motel beds, tv's, thugs reacting to the screen/rigged machines). It deeply impressed me as a 7 y/o who just got the first taste of this newly released game that everyone was hyping about, the more i know about it's develompent cycle the more impressed i get about how they managed to pull off such a kick ass game, almost every single voice line from Max is pure poetry mixed with his suffering, the epic quest for vengeance by a man with nothing to lose, the dark humor and the self awareness of how he managed to get so far against every single odd, the "illuminati" using him to destroy Valkyr and Horne, his vengeance justyfiable in every moral scale, all of the movies and pop culture references, i can't even put into words everything this game was and still is to me, i wish we could get more games like this, I keep replaying it and every time i notice things that i've missed even after so many years, a truly timeless classic and legit masterpiece. And while Max Payne 2 was good, all technical aspects were "modernized" and refined to the next level, the story felt slightly subpar and many of the events surrounding the characters felt predictable, and it was overall short, but it was still a good Max Payne game that kept all the things that worked and improved upon it. I never finished Max Payne 3 even though i gave it a chance, it's maybe me being nostalgic and bitter for the departure from the "dark noir early 2000" themes to something more in line with modern times, the gameplay was spectacular but i didn't really get into the story and some day i will bring myself to complete that journey. Damn that was a really long coment LOL. TL;DR Max Payne Good 10/10 please remaster with the respect that it deserves. I remember wishing Max got a little more height in his dives back in 2001... Turns out, younger me was right. While not totally "realistic" to have a bit more vertical height coupled with the same or slightly more horizontal distance... its also not totally "realistic" to dual weild any gun. Would have helped getting shots over tables and desks that sometimes you'd dive behind and never clear, so you couldnt shoot them, but they were still able to hit your head because that was high enough.
1st time I played this was on the original Xbox, I was 13 or so the winter this game came out and was home alone in NJ while a real-life snowstorm was starting that morning. I played all day until my Mom came home from work and it was dark and there was almost a foot of snow outside. That was such an immersive experience I took for granted lmao. Anyways that stands as one of the greatest gaming memories for me. I just downloaded Max Payne 1 and 2 on steam and I'm using the mods you mentioned because I can't wait for the official remasters anymore although I'm still very excited for when they come out. Also, RIP James McAffrey.

This video hit me straight in the face like a ton of bricks, toppled from the precarious position they were perched on by gravity, gravity, just like the gravity of the situation that slowly dawned on me by the realisation that things were inevitably going to hit me like the cold morning dawn light hits the delicate dewdrop covered grass after a night of tumultuous storms traumatically tossed torrential rain and thunder like a runaway washing machine would throw an uneven load of clothes all over the cold, concrete floor of my uncles garage. But then again it was a Thursday. What else could I expect from Thursdays.
That's some skill, too. I'm not bothered about sloppy gameplay if it's just to show the game. But on a playthrough it's nice to watch someone play better than myself.

Man, this makes me freaking EXCITED for the remake. Max Payne 1 & 2 are two of the best games I've ever played. Great stories and voice acting.

This video hit me straight in the face like a ton of bricks, toppled from the precarious position they were perched on by gravity, gravity, just like the gravity of the situation that slowly dawned on me by the realisation that things were inevitably going to hit me like the cold morning dawn light hits the delicate dewdrop covered grass after a night of tumultuous storms traumatically tossed torrential rain and thunder like a runaway washing machine would throw an uneven load of clothes all over the cold, concrete floor of my uncles garage.
But then again it was a Thursday.
What else could I expect from Thursdays.
That's some skill, too. I'm not bothered about sloppy gameplay if it's just to show the game. But on a playthrough it's nice to watch someone play better than myself.

Disabling “anti-aliasing” in the launch options helps prevent a lot of issues, also try starting it in windowed mode instead of fullscreen.

This game was so comfortable to play on pc with a mouse. The only game that did the hollywood diving so well! 😂 It absolutely made this game. 1 and 2 were great. They screwed up 3.
