Wield the ultimate power as a rogue street cop in New York City. You are Marcus Reed, a former criminal turned cop, using and abusing your authority to hunt down the murderer of your mentor while cleaning up the 'hoods of New York City, from Harlem to Chinatown. Your undercover investigation leads you through a murderous web of gangs and deceit as you battle crooks, your past, and everything else the city can throw at you.
Some notes about the game:
The PC version is broken beyond belief! I had to use the keyboard number pad to control the camera and to lock-on and fire weapons as the mouse would lock up. I tried my best to make the gameplay smooth but was definitely a challenge. I also had to use a speed fix to slow down the game as it runs way too fast on modern PCs for some reason. This game is also locked at a smooth...28fps which is bizarre! As much as I love this game it really did have it's technical issues which is a real shame.

@@krogadoxrondor5942 it's ironic, given that the console versions are a lot more polished than the pc versions. Guess it was the case of it being a console game first, pc game second, especially for the ps2 version.

The mapping of Manhattan done for this game is unbelievable. They included every single street. They couldn't include a lot of landmarks or hospitals, but it was still impressive.
I thought it was funny that they didn't include any outside train stations. There are only 4 in Manhattan so that's no big loss

Wow!! The memories. I used to play this all the time when I was a teenager. I was obsessed with it.
Now here I am nearly two decades after the release of this game and I'm a black detective like Marcus. People talk badly about video games but some of them inspire people. And this one certainly got me on the right track to protecting and serving and staying off the streets 👍

Definitely. I’m surprised it’s a hidden gem and not mainstream. Probably cuz gta. I loved playing both. This and San Andreas were the shit. It’s crazy how much gaming has changed. They definitely don’t make ‘em like this no more. I think that’s probably why it’s a hidden gem too cuz there were just so many dope ass games being made during that time period. This, GTA Series, 25 to life, MK Series, Cod series even back then, wwe games, and the list goes on. It was a great time to be a gamer. If this were released today, it’d wipe the floor with everything else very easily.
This game taught me about my own city before I hopped off the porch 😂😂, thought I was the only one who ever played this nice to see hundreds of others got to experience greatness.

I spent hours cleaning up the whole gang activity, driving every square inch of the map. And doing the missions last. Ps2 days were so chill, effortless, timeless, so many countless games 🎮

In fact when l played GTA SA a little later, l honestly thought this was the better game....at least early on. Of course once GTA SA gets going, it never slows down, so it's way better overall. But if you compare the first couple hours gameplay, l think this has the edge over SA. Even the story was better, IMO 😏

The only thing holding True Crime NYC back is the bugs. If you look close enough, the game tells a very unique, interesting, and activating story about crime and punishment and how it all plays into morality.
This game is absolutely amazing! Definitely need a remaster but the biggest problem with this game was those falling back deaths were terrible. Need some ragdoll action in the remaster.

All the radio musics in TC NYC are golden. Loved them all and fits during raining.
The game looks outdated very much today but when it was released I played it everyday on PS2. Such a wide selection of player cars, firearms and even some outfits that could've used more customization still was good.
I spent every night at my cousin house play this 1 game in summer as a kid if i had ps4 right now id buy it if its backwards compatible

@@mendes2352 This game wasnt buggy at all. At least not on ps2. Xbox and pc users seem to be the main ones having issues. I loved this game back in the day. Even did a playthrough of it on my gaming channel back in 2012, and again experienced zero bugs at all.

Later on when l finally got to play the much celebrated GTA SA, l honestly felt it was inferior to this, and was a bit disappointed. But that was early on, because once GTA SA gets going, it never stops, so yeah its the better game. But if you were to compare the 1st few hours of gameplay of this to SA, l think this actually gets the edge. It even has a better story. I mean, what IS SA' s story? I suppose the overarching story is the hunt for CJ's mom's killer, but once you leave Los Santos, that storyline gets put on the backburner for the majority of the game, and before you know it you're breaking into Area 51 to steal a jetpack from the army, so who's killer are you after again? lol Meanwhile the story in TC is clear from day one. Everything you do is to find the person who murdered your mentor, and while dealing with that you have to balance your father pushing you back into a life of crime, and trying to be a good police officer at the same time. It was just fantastic storytelling, so this game could have definitely given gta a run for its money if some things were different.

This was really an underrated game. I played it so much it was so fun. Although, I never got to finish everything until I bought the PC version of it many years later and it was still as amazing as it was back when I was a kid. Good times. A remaster of this game would be awesome but I don't see that happening sadly.

This game so fire u can go into any buildings, they mapped out all of new york, you can go into any building, Sleep in a hotel, Buy clothing, get a haircut, Buy cars, learn new fighting styles, buy weapons, eat,Only thing u can't do is sit down and pick up anything but most stuff u can, Oh and you don't own ya own place. You could put drugs on ppl as a crooked cop and can bribe a store manager to give you money out the register. This game blew San Andreas out the water it's ashame they let it fall apart like this with teck problems. This game is so underrated man

Even though the game was buggy, it was still pretty fun. Learning new moves, slaying pedestrians, the funny dialogue when people die, the radio stations that rivaled both GTA & Saints Row, etc etc.

Thanks for the gameplay. I loved this game from the beginning credits of Jay Z and Camron, til the ending of the bonus game at the end with Redman. The soundtrack, all the extra shit you can do throughout the game that you didn't show here. I used to be so addicted to this game. This shit even low key taught me how to drive.

I played it on my OG Xbox and I remember playing up all night. The map was huge and driving feels like endless going from one street to another. Unfortunately, I was too young and didn't appreciate it as much as it deserved.
