One of the more unique ice fishing adventures I’ve ever experienced. Tomcod.
What the heck is a tomcod?
That is exactly what I said. Huh?
Tom Cod who?
Well, as it turns out, night fishing through the ice in slightly brackish water on a hightide does produce perch sized cod! Now who would have thunk it?
How did I not ever hear about this before?

Back in 2008 my family and I took the train from Sarnia to Quebec City for a 5 day stay. We went to Trois Rivieres for the day fishing and had a blast. We kept 199 and cleaned them up, packaged them, bought a cooler and were going to bring them home with us. I started thinking about getting them back into Michigan. I called a Conservation Officer friend and he said with no license required, no limit, no fishery nearby I might have issues getting over the border. If I couldn't get them over they would just go to waste. So when I turned in the rental car the taxi driver back got a tip and a brand new cooler with 150 Tommy Cod.

Hey hey my favorite local species. Love fishing for them high tide middle of the night, they get really aggressive come late Fall. Great video guys :)
