  • "All flashlights are pretty much the same, aren't they?" The answer is a resounding "NO!" when the lights are by SureFire. Special guest Andrew Wright from SureFire joins Caleb to give us the inside scoop on makes his company's flashlights different. SureFire's handheld light lineup is extensive because there are many different types of situations where folks need light. So the first step in choosing a SureFire flashlight is to determine what TASK you plan to use it for. Then consider the type of SWITCH you want, the type of POWER source, and the type of BEAM pattern. Andrew walks us through some examples.....
    The super-compact EDCL1-T comes with a reversible pocket clip and runs on just one CR-123 lithium battery, making it an excellent everyday carry light. With only a momentary-on switch, no constant-on, the EDCL1-T is optimized for self-defense situations where you don't want to give away your position with a light that stays on too long. It has two output levels: press the switch lightly for low, then farther in for high output.
    Need something with more light output? The larger Fury DFT Dual-Fuel flashlight pumps out a lotta lumens. "Dual-Fuel" means it can run on a pair of CR-123s OR a single 18650 lithium-ion rechargeable battery. The Fury has a traditional tailcap switch. Press the button lightly for momentary illumination, then push it until it clicks for constant-on.
    Their flat form-factor helps SureFire's compact Stiletto models fit neatly in a pocket, and the built-in lithium polymer battery recharges via a Micro-USB cable. Stilettos have excellent versatility with low, medium, and high output beams.
    Most of SureFire's flashlights have a HYBRID beam pattern with a hot spot in the middle surrounded by uniform but less intense peripheral light. The hybrid beam is great a wide variety of situations. The TURBO beam is a very bright spot beam that offers the longest reach. The MAXVISION beam produces a wide "wall o' light" that illuminates the immediate area well but doesn't reach as far as the hybrid or the turbo.

    I still carry a Olight Baton 3 at work too as a utility light because of the size, weight, magnetic base, and double sided clip. It's a great utility light, but that's it. Not even Olights warrior series even comes close to the Stiletto in terms of tactical use.

    Their G2X version is around 6 years old. Would be great if the next update also can run on 18650ies not just 16650ies. Also a pure white led would be great. At 15 lumen low mode it has a terrible green tint. That is avoidable.

      Heatsinking (build of body/ thickness of aluminum) and electronic thermal regulation to control the heat build up so LED doesnt burn up when at peak lumen output.

    This raises the big questions: why is Surefire always so behind the times? "Its a 500lumen light". What? In the age where even inexpensive lights are 1200lumens WHY isn't Surefire keeping pace? I keep a 14400 sized light in my pocket from near 10 years ago that's brighter than that! (That's AAA size for those not up on their battery sizes). And bragging about having a MICRO USB charge port? You can't even BUY a new phone with a MicroUSB port any more. Everything is USB C and I know, because I was one of the last hold-outs simply because I didn't want to make the switch. So, I should need to keep TWO chargers in the house and TWO chargers at work and TWO chargers in the car just to feed my Surefire?
    Seriously, I have a 6PX Defender on my night stand. Its lived there for over a decade and will always live there. Why? Because I'm 100% confident it will NEVER FAIL. I have other lights, also, but that one will never leave. It, too, has obsolescence problems in that without modification it won't accept an 18650 battery, but I managed to find a few of the last 17650's, enough to last the rest of my life. The question is WHY? When the rest of the world sized their lights to accept an 18650 was Surefire still bucking the trend? I've come to the conclusion its false PRIDE. They don't want to "follow" anyone, even though others have better ideas. Get with the program Surefire. You make a good product, just step in time with innovation.

    • @Gieszkanne
      @Gieszkanne ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you aware that all these high lumen flashlight keep the turbo for just 30-60 sec after they drop down ending up around 700-600 lumen? This is quite a nonsense and many people are sick of this shit.The only valid critique is why SF dont make all their lights 18650 compatible.

I'm sure the build quality is excellent, but as far as the average Joe Blow is concerned, the bang for the buck just isn't there compared to other manufacturers that produce similar quality products. Shy of being deployed in a combat zone, spending $450 on a light for a marginal increase in durability just doesn't make sense. Great video as always, guys.

    I've never understood an industry that is so overbuilt and feature rich as flashlights but so far behind technologically. It took years and years before you'd include rechargeable and even then they use old connectors. And the user interfaces are atrocious. Lets click 35 times to cycle through modes in order. And why would anyone choose a "gas pedal" switch. 1/2 the functionality with none of the benefits.

    • @aquasound-escapes898
      @aquasound-escapes898 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because that’s an Olight user interface. The only difference is surefire trademarked the name “gas peddle”.
      My fenix does not gas peddle. Except I set it at turbo in its memory set and if I need “gas peddle I mash the back button and it delivers 1,700 searing lumens with 40,000 candela (almost same brightness of sun at noon) and destroy their night vision. It ABSOLUTELY destroys night vision even worse the closer someone is.

      I don’t know what you’re talking about. They are phenomenal. I’m currently carrying a cloud MCH, which is an even more expensive light. When somebody wants a budget option, I tell them about the EDC tl1 (the one in the vid)

      I have the Fenix PD35 V.3 and I’m interested in the modlife 1,350 lumen light at 54,000 candela.
      My fenix is getting 40,000 candela. But I just can’t justify $309.00 vs $85.00 for the fenix
