Irene I just found your videos a couple of hours ago. First I watched the video of you shooting with a Nikon camera, which is why I found your youtube site in the first place. I am a Nikon user. I just finished watching this video. Both videos are amazing. You're fortunate to have a sister who is a model. Not only is she extremely photogenic; she follows your instructions, instead of arguing with you like many siblings would. I am primarily a landscape photographer. However, I have recently begun photographing people more often. My portrait shots are nowhere near as good as yours. When it comes to portrait photography, I'm more like someone who shoots pictures of my family and friends. No real skills, just aim the camera and hope for the best. You've inspired me to learn how to truly photograph people, and not just snaps pictures of them. I've subscribed to your channel because I learned a long time ago, that the only way to learn how to do something well, is to learn from those who already know how to do that something well.
My father passed away in 2018 and in his estate we found his Minolta 7000 with a few lenses. It was precisely because I wanted to bring these lenses back into life that I started taking photos in 2019. I still use old Minoltas AFs, esp. the 50mm/f1.4, the 28-135mm/f4-4.5 and the 70-210/f4 (the "beer can" - in Gernamy we call it "stovepipe") very often today - and I love it ❤
Lovely photos Irene. I've been following your videos for a few years now and love how you structure the content and present clear examples of the differences between gear. Also like how you turned the wall into a big softbox. This particular shoot has inspired me to go out and find a vintage dress as I love the concept and want to try something similar myself.
I've shot Canon DSLR cams for 15 years including the 1 Series. Last year I got the R6 Mark II and all my lenses are adapted lenses (Sigma Art and Canon 70-200 2.8 III). These adapted lenses focus way faster and WAY more accurately than they ever did natively on the 1 Series cams. I get nearly 100% keepers now shooting sports with the R6 II and EF 70-200 2.8 using eye AF, even for hockey where it nails the eye. It's insane. I see no reason to get RF lenses.
Same. I’m so excited that the price of ef lenses are dropping so rapidly. My dream lens is the 400mm f2.8 and I saw one for around $2500 recently. That was $12k when it first came out.
always magical and wonderful to look at you the summer photos were already impressive there with this snow it is the sweetness that emerges Thank you again for letting us benefit so much from your talent. And of course thanks to the models friendship
Yes, still using my EF lenses with the adapter - good to know about the issue around sharpness. I thought I was messing up somehow. I've checked out MPB & added them to my favorites and hopefully be able to purchase some RF lenses soon!
I love MPB. I've also been using the EF converter on my canon r6 with tamron lenses. I just ordered the rf 50mm 1.8 lens so I'm excited to see how it looks!
Amazing work! Thanks for adding the info about the fringing on the EF lens as opposed to the RF lens, and info about the indoor & outdoor lighting setups as well!
Reminds me of Lara in Dr. Zhivago. Did you know that they were unable to film in the USSR in the 1970s, so they filmed it in Spain, using huge amounts of wax to create the images of snow? You can tell I’m an oldie. Love your channel!
Thx for showing the raw and edited pix. Can u do another editing process video? Just love how u do with the skin tone. If u have presets for skin tones I can buy, lmk know
A good shoot, but high heels in the woods and snow? I love your dual purpose living room / studio. I did that for years too, but almost 5 years ago I rebuilt and began using the 19 X 26' former bedroom in a 2nd master bedroom suite upstairs in my home that wasn't any longer in use. It's now my studio, since my kids are now all married and gone. Being retired (I'm 81 now) I don't work for hire any more, just experiment with light and shoot family and friends, still life, and sometimes short videos. It's a bit tight for a studio and I made it as multi-purpose as possible. There is also a large walk-in closet for storing unused gear, a full bathroom, and I have made use of the large hallway at the top of the stairs for a hair/make-up and coffee break area. I try to get my family and friends to pose for me, but when first setting up the lights I had talked my wife into posing for me. After 10 minutes she asked "how long is this going to take?" and I replied "maybe an hour". With that she got up and left, saying "I have better things to do", and she hasn't been up here since. I've been a Canon camera user for about 20 years now, the newest is a 90D. No mirrorless, yet. I do my best to watch every video that you put up on TH-cam. It's always interesting to see how others do this like you. You've got the space, so how about a few still life type shoots? They are easy to set up in temporary studio space and there are lots of props all around the house to use. I assemble a table from a 34" square board on the top of a wooden Walmart stool for these. I bought some square tablecloths of different colors, and since I can no longer work low (metal knees), I put the stool on top of a set of bed risers to get everything at a comfortable work level. Dark shots with only lighting for the table surface and the props is what I like for most of these shoots (A little mystery in the dark surroundings). A 12" square soft box directly above the table and pointed straight down is my key light. Then I work in other lights around the table as I need them. Thanks for a very interesting video. Charley
7:30 Do you make the picture wider in post editing to make the proportions of the models face and body more realistic og similar to real life? Great photos by the way, well done!
Impressive what you achieved with this red dress in the studio. Really nice. Btw what's this backdrop called exactly and the title of this calm like zen style japanese music, love it? Thanks for sharing🙌.
I Luv You Artful Creations !!!!!!!!!!!!! Your Styling is STUNNING !!!!!!!!!! You get so much out of Your Models also !!!!!!!!!!!! And the Eye that You have for Lighting is Special and Unique !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ThankYou for the sharing (when You do) the Editing :) :) :)
Irene I'm speaking from memory and I don't know if I'm wrong, but the problem with the focus on the eyelashes instead of the iris I think is a problem of microadjustement of the focus or something like that, I can't remember, but it can be fixed. The photos are a-mazing though!
While the RF lenses tend to be faster, sharper, and less fringing, I'm actually planning on selling my RF 50mm f1.2 L in favor of the EF 50mm f1.2 L. I find the softness of the EF creates a more dreamy image. I also prefer the way it handles highlights, flare, and colors. The RF tends to be too sharp and too perfect. I love all of the photos I've taken on the EF, but I can't say the same about the RF.
I have had both as well and even the sigma art 1.4.all on the R5. But I really love the RF. It still has the character but also the sharpness. I do however dail the sharpness down a bit in PS.
@@SliverCreations It has character. It's a slightly different character than the EF. I think the softness just gives a natural creamy/dreamy look to it. Have you had any chance to try a pro mist filter on the RF to see if that helps soften it. I'm curious to see if that'll help give that soft/dreamy characteristic... especially with highlights and backlit situations.
@@SliverCreations I just picked up a NiSi Black Mist 1/4 filter to try on the RF 50/1.2. I’ll report back after I do some shots with it, and comparisons with the EF. Just from some initial tests at home with string lights behind a subject, it creates a super dreamy look and the image is still way sharper than the EF. Although, the glow can be a little overboard when there are a lot of lights around the subject.
I still have 13 Canon EF-lenses and luckily they all work fine on my new R6. I don't want to replace them and I still have a back up 5DIII on which RF-lenses wouldn't work.
I was using the EF50 F1.8 (nifty fifty) on my R5 with the adapter - it worked good. I now have the RF50 F1.8 (still considered nifty 50?). I also have the RF24-70 F2.8, RF70-200 F2.8 and the RF 16 F2.8 for wide angle shots. I think the RF lenses are better if you can afford them!
After watching your R10 review I spotted this and yep I want the R10 but all my lenses and old camera Canon 80D so was wondering how the EF/s lenses would work well. I would hate to sell my Tamron 90mm macro, Tamron 18-400 and Tamron 150-600 ;-)
I use Photoshop for everything else, and Evoto for skin specifically. I used it in this video th-cam.com/video/RWaffm21o0k/w-d-xo.htmlsi=91wbrcxJMHkXEhJK
Very beautiful poses and your sister looks fantastic. In this case I would have preferred more photos in short lighting because she's always posing away from the light bounced on the wall, resulting in many "broad lighting" portraits. I wish I could see some beautiful poses with your sister facing the opposite direction.
Tried an older 24-70 2.8 EF on the R6, couldn't focus at all. Newer EF focus well, and my sigma Art 85 randomly misses focus. Look forward to going fully RF and loosing the adapter. Not looking forward to the cost though.
When I got my R5, I got an EF adapter from Viltrox. Works like a charm. I swear my 50mm 1.8 focuses better on my R5 than it did on my 7D or 80D. The two r-mount lenses I have are full manual lenses.
The main reason EF glass works so well on RF bodies is that the EF and RF lensese probably use the same communications protocol. Unlike adapting for example, EF lenses to E-Mount, there has to be some sort of microprocessor thats translating the communications protocols between EF and E-Mount lenses which adds latencies and results in less performance.
I use EF 85mm F1.2 MK II and never had any problem with front focus on my R5. It is probably just your lens, and it really has front focus. You can btw. adjust it in your camera.
@@guidlines yup you are right. I meant with DSLR, I used to adjust it. With my R5 I never had any problem to focus with EF lenses. Even old EF 300/2.8 with two teleconverters is focusing amazingly precise. So I think in Irene's case, it must be something with the lens or she just needs to play with AF settings.
