  • Dating in Italy is something that of course many individuals have in mind when moving to Italy to make a new life in Italy for themselves. Living in Italy as a dual citizen expat in Italy has taught me about some of the cultural differences between dating in Italy vs America. Learning about the cultural norms and expectations, going through my own experiences, and hearing about the experiences of others has greatly shaped this episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter. I get into a discussion about life in Italy and what I've noticed regarding dating in Italy and how dating has changed over the past couple of decades in the US. Italy is no different and has seen a shift due to the mass adoption of dating apps in Italy. Even with the traditional mentality that can be easily found in Italy, the modern world and modern dating culture has definitely been embraced.

    The thing is we Italians don't actually "date", not the way Americans do. Say a couple meet because of mutual friends or any other social gathering, if there are good vibes the two would start to "hang out" together, within the group of friends. Then, with fewer and fewer other people involved until the 2 agree to see one another alone. Only then they could say they'd be actually dating. The whole process is much slower here. Italian women/girls would hardly date a complete (or half) stranger: maybe they'd start by taking a coffee together (certainly not dinner immediately).

    2 cases: a cousin went to Italy for a husband. She hooked one, came to America. He was shocked of how little money she had in the bank ($60k). He went back to Italy and never returned. He was in America 2 weeks. 2nd. Friend found his wife there. The married in America. She stayed beyond her green card. The day after her U.S. passport came in the mail, she packed and returned home.

    Compared to 40 years ago when I resided in Italy; I’d say things haven’t changed too much from a dating perspective based on your experience. I will point out (based on reading Italian newspapers, news reports, friends and family) in general: (1) more awareness and acceptance of the LGBT community, (2) more awareness of the disabled community (somewhat off-topic), and (3) folks certainly don’t marry as much as they used too. Much more ‘domestic partnership’ or ‘convivenza.’ 👍🏻

      Yes, I take it you live here - there is a subtlety to those topics here. It might take longer but as opposed to the US it is not as violent - meaning that people become divided and it becomes all consuming and partisan.

      @@xarinaazlanova3195Cuz everything is A LOT more slower than half of the world (I'm not Italian but a Colombian digital nomad that has an Italian Girlfriend), so basically you can't approach any lady here for asking out to date, not even to be friends cuz you will be immediately rejected, here what it works is to have a group of friends that know other friends and get them to organize a hangout where they invite females and NOW you can approach them VERY FUCKING SLOWLY (and that's an additional problem as you are completely required to make friends which is not that easy) then it will require at least 5 hangouts with the same group and the same girls to actually get them numbers and text, after that you guys (group) start to hangout with fewer and fewer people each time till the point of 2 girls 2 males and now the game finally BEGINS, after all of this bullshit now you can actually ask for a "date", see how many extra steps you got to take only to have a CHANCE? (the girl can say no and then restart the damn process and you lost several weeks or months of your life) it's still worth the hustle too, Italians are probably the best women on earth, not only looks but personality, elegance and feminity, also get ready to meet some basic standards, like being in really good shape, a little bit tall, having a good haircut, beard, nice dress style, perfume, and generally a decent face, have some money, at least more than the medium salary to be taken serious (around €2000+ per month), a decent car, and a good apartment/house, and that's just the minimum, good luck.

      Same reasons as in the USA people make bad choices or their priorities change and mind you getting divorced here is a much longer and more complicated process and furthermore divorce settlements are not like in the usa. Divorce rates in Italy are far lower than US according to united nations data-1.5 rate per 1,000 people in Italy, compared to 2.5 in the US. Catholicism has its advantages. Even in the US, American Catholics have the lowest divorce rate than any other sub culture,.

    • @mediterraneanworld
      @mediterraneanworld 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You cannot compare American Catholics to Italian - people are culturally Catholic and while there are many superficial signs of religiosity - it is not like in the US. The Church is not popular and especially when a bishop or cardinal says something regarding politics. In Catholic majoirity countries it is difficult to separate religious and cultural norms just like in Islamic nations.

      @@mediterraneanworld my point is this: the information given is completely wrong, While i enjoy some of these vlogs, and typically Rafael is spot on about things. But sometimes not everything is discussed (purposely). Things people should know? Politically, Italy, along w the rest of Europe, is getting very conservative. Also the center of all Italian life has been and always be the church. every holiday, every festival in every town square, revolves around it, like it or not. The way you write about it is from a very American perspective like it is 100 years ago - of course there are these traditions but they do not conflict with how people act and how they feel or don’t feel about the Church. • @mediterraneanworld
      @mediterraneanworld 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One of the other factors is like in most industrialized countries, with higher education, living standards and personal goals and careers the birth rate goes down, not only as a consequence of these factors but also that having a child here is considered a serious thing - you don’t just kick them out when they are 18 and let them get student loans etc.. likewise children also take - generally a more curative approach to their parent’s care later in life.
