14 RAW frames per second for over 12 seconds without hitting the buffer? That's a lot of pictures!
I got the email from Adorama that we all dream about -- I could try the new Canon EOS 1DX Mark II body ahead of the official announcement.
I immediately had fantasies of making a video about my experience while traveling the world with the camera, shooting the type of work that I do: big concerts, sporting events, and celebrity portraits.
But then came the catch. I could only have the camera for a few hours. The next day. That's it.
OK, so I couldn't take it to shoot models in Belize, stadium concerts in Europe, or the Super Bowl.
I called my friend David Geffin (shameless plug - he is co-producing my new web show "Two Minute Tips with David Bergman” • Card Management: Two M... ) and told him we were going to shoot something fun the next morning.
Since we had such a short time, I wanted to simply use the camera in a real world situation and see how it felt. When I called around looking for a venue to use, I had to be super top-secret and tell them I was shooting a sports photography educational video. I picked a college gym, because that's a common, low-light scenario that a lot of us deal with. I shot the images at 1/500 5.6 and at a whopping 12,800 ISO.
Whenever anyone else walked into the gym, I covered up the markings so no one could see what camera I was shooting with.
Canon calls the camera I used a "beta sample," which means it may not be exactly the same as the final production units that will ship. Since the engineers are known to tweak the files up until the last possible minute, I'm not able to post any full resolution images or video from this shoot.
You can read about all the specs online, so I just touched on the things that are most important to me. Suffice to say, this will be my go-to camera for all my sports and concert shooting.
In the meantime, I'm still waiting for the buffer to stop.

I really like 2 things: Much better buffer (I shoot a sport where I need this) and better resolution on the review screen on the back. Can't wait to get my hands on this and make my 1DX my backup body. Good review. Thanks.
Where will it all end?
It is going to be hard choice between the Nikon D5 and Canon EOS 1DX Mark 11, because the Canon is far better for video and the Nikon is far better for still photography. Both are great cameras, it's just what kind of photography do you do, just my 2 cents.
now is the time to buy a 1DX mark I, you can find one for 3k, maybe even less if you look hard enough on ebay.
+Jeremy Esters Yea when this thing actually hits the market en masse it will drive the X even lower IMO. After the 1 DX I picked up a Mark IV for $1K

but the monitor is not be possible rotating because it is fixed and it looks very small, so I wonder Why ? Canon what About ? and it costs so much, for what ? competitor have similar characteristics to 6 times less the price .

Holy crap i loved it 4K 60fps
Gopro and Sony only do 4k at 30fps in action sport or even panning camera 30fps is too slow i don't want to use blur effect to mask slow fps like hollywood movie makers do
But i think this a camera body cost something like 10 000e so i can only dream of it

Unfortunately I have not seen a single thing that would make me upgrade from my current 1Dx. The nikon D5 made me drool when I saw the specs. The 1Dxii makes me cry.

+Sheldon Alleyne why not canon are good for photo :D you wrote it like dont use canon for shoting photos :D i think if you but both on alot of measured test(same think) you get similiar resoults (i hope in DR too)
"accessible to everyone"..$6000 is accessible?....no...the new Sony 6300 shooting 4k and 120FPS HD is accessible.
Put 4k and 120FPS HD in your crop sensors already Canon, my smartphone has had that for years
+Aurelie Nani With the difference, the 1DX II offers REAL Cinema 4k (4,096 by 2,160).
99% of the other consumer market devices "only" offers UDH (3,840 by 2,160). Including your smartphone and the Sony a6300.. And certainly not with 60fps.

+ZealousAce At 14fps and with an actuation rating of probably 300,000+ images you would need to hold the shutter button for about 6 hours straight to actually reach that limit (theoretical limit).
