this is straight from the production notes. When Alan was dropped in at final scene, they were going to count to three. Instead of releasing him at three, they released him at two so he could look even more surprised.
Looks like it worked out pretty well.

It definitely is but IMO the jumping off the building scene in the first Lethal Weapon movie tops that one. That movie came out one year prior to Die Hard and that scene doesn't take itself too seriously and in a way it has a mix of comedic and serious elements to it instead of being 100% serious because at the end of the day they both make safe landing and are still alive.

It’s crazy to think he made it to Hollywood with Die Hard around the age of 42 and went on to have a great career with the Harry Potter films,Robin Hood,Sense & Sensibility and many many more

I remember watching ‘Die Hard’ with my husband, when it was first shown in theaters. What a great movie and he certainly played a major role in why it is so great. Both Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman have lines that are still used today. His death is a tragedy: to his family, friends and all his numerous fans. Now Bruce Willis has had to quit acting, do to a debilitating illness.

I remember Alan Rickman from this time early late 80s/90s like yesterday. He looked like a young rock star. Hard to believe he gone, he’d be nearly 80 years old now if alive, RIP

What an incredible actor, product of a grammar school education before our country went bonkers and got rid of them all. Rickman was from a council estate. If he was born now, we'd have been deprived of one of the stage and silver screens greatest actors.
