I remember last year, my sisters & I went to my older sister's boyfriend's family's house on Christmas Day & his brother actually had a sweatshirt on that had that very thing & artwork on it, so I told him I had watched the movie the night before.
I have a 3d wooden advent calendar of Nakatomi plaza with a little magnetic Hans Gruber. The days are numbered from 1 at the very top all the way to 24 at the bottom. Each day you move Hans down a slot until he hits the bottom at 24 because "it's not Christmas until Hans Gruber falls from Nakatomi Plaza". 🤣
I like that. This is 1 I should've watched with my Dad & my younger brother. My brother eventually took a liking to the Die Hard movies & my Dad liked the movies (well, this 1 at least) & I remember my Dad actually took him to go see Live Free or Die Hard when it came out in theaters. I didn't get into this movie until after both of them passed away, years ago (happened very close). Now, I watch this movie every year on Christmas Eve as part of my new tradition since that year & when I do, I like to think that they're in the living room watching the movie with me in spirit.
4:50 the most under appreciated ultimate hero moment of the movie!! If you remember, earlier in the film when Al's talking to Bruce's character John, he talks about how he shot/killed a kid early in his career. A young gang banger. He never used his weapon since. The power of the music building up with the slow refocus on his face, and the fact he finally had the courage to take control and use his gun to kill the bad guy, and easily the #2 bad guy only less important than Han's Gruber, creates the most heroic moment.
Not only that, but as soon as he knows the threat had been neutralized, he brings the gun back to a ready position. He's not frozen in shock at what he has done. Even when there seems to be a new threat, he turns to face it but keeps his weapon in a ready position. Truly a professional.
I read that when they were filming the drop scene they were going to release Alan Rickman on the count of three but instead they released it on one , with out his knowledge, His facial expression says it all...lol
I'm still here in 2025 because i absolutely love this movie whether you consider it a christmas movie or not i think everybody can agree it's awesome with one of the most memorable villains ever rip alan rickman
The best scene of all in this film has to be when he straps the computer and the C4 to the chair and sends it down the elevator shaft. The explosion is fantastic; I turn the volume up for this. Needs a paint job and a shit load of screen doors!! Great scene!
The watch was NOT from Ellis. It was a gift to Holly from Nakatomi corporate and the boss Mr. Takagi, for a business deal Holly helped the company close. Ellis only encouraged Holly to show it off to John.
I rewatched this movie before Christmas. I never realized that the watch John takes off Holly is the Rolex Ellis was bragging about earlier in the movie

I think it's cool how when Karl shows back up at the end, he loos very similar to how Khan looked at the end of Star Trek 2, and the music played for each sequence while not the same, was very similar. It seems like an intentional nod to Wrath of Khan.
That look on Alan rickman’s face was real, they where supposed to let him go after the count of 3, but the stunt coordinator just let him go after the count of 1.
Honestly as much as I love sam L jackson I really think they could have gotten away with Al and John McClane in die hard 3 I know the actor couldn't do it because of family matters but I always wanted to see die hard 3 with Al powell and John McClain imagine a buddy cop movie with John McClain and his best friend Al Powell fighting crime in my dreams i suppose

They really dropped Rickman. He was equipped with a quick-release harness and they were supposed to drop him on a cue, but they wanted to get his honest reaction so they dropped him when he wasn't expecting it. That's an honest look of terror on his face, there.
4:43 This is the day Carl Winslow has... and THEN he has to go home and deal with Urkel hitting on his daughter. Can we take a moment to respect this man and his patience.
Yippee-ki-yay to Alan Rickman. One of the greatest actors that ever lived! Rest in peace.
Yep but sadly.
Thats true😢
my favourite actor...such a shame
Loved him the Harry Potter films
He should won the best supporting actor in this movie Alain Rickman.Ladies and gentlemen love this line the way he said Alain
1:53 It's not Christmas until Hans Gruber falls off Nakatomi Plaza.
With a dose of gravity!

Now it feels like Christmas 😁

2:16 had to shot 4 times because Bruce Willis kept making Bonnie Bedelia laugh.
I read that when they were filming the drop scene they were going to release Alan Rickman on the count of three

two
Epic death scene notwithstanding, Alan was pretty pissed off with his director for giving him such an almighty scare at that moment…
As cool as it sounds, this was actually proven to be false. Rickman was just that good at conveying the right facial expression.
What a movie,I watch it a million times never gets old, they don't make movie like this,Amen to that...
"Asssssshooooles" Alan Rickman (Presumably)
1:16 RIP Huey Lewis. No more new drugs for you, my friend. 😓
That's the power of love
I always thought it was Huey, I would have bet money on it
Looks like Huey Lewis. But it is actually Dennis Hayden.
Yay! The best xmas movie happy holidays
Good old Bruce Wills, You never fail me now

I think the script writing has something to do with it.

With all the damage and lost papers and losing their head, I wonder if nakatomi was able to survive as a company after this event
insurance.
She's still working there a year later so it survived at least one year.
3:22 magical! ❤ How each of the two knew it was the other (despite they haven't actually met before).
@KonstasSam exactly - bc of his f expressions only.
James Horners unused cue from Aliens when Powell shoots Karl is so fucking good
That sounds like music from Star Trek II. I know, same composer 😊
Great film.
Hans was a fabulous bad guy.
In the movie, Alan Rickman plays Jeremy Irons's younger brother. In the reality, Alan Rickman was two years older than Jeremy Irons.
He always seemed older.
@nicoleackerman205 Alan Rickman was the older and Jeremy Irons is the younger, right?
@@BrunoCosta-dp7ms I meant Alan seemed older could never buy Jeremy character being older
@@nicoleackerman205 At the same time, Alan was the older and Jeremy is the younger.
That's how great they were at acting.

0:49 CLASSIC!
Something I just realized is that the watch that John took off was from Ellis, so Ellis helped Hans drop to the ground as payback from the grave.
The watch was NOT from Ellis. It was a gift to Holly from Nakatomi corporate and the boss Mr. Takagi, for a business deal Holly helped the company close. Ellis only encouraged Holly to show it off to John.

Merry Christmas 2024 everyone
I think this is the only movie which brings tears to my eyes when someone pumps someone else full of lead.
