I bought a 2023 Elantra SEL with the convenience package in September of 2022, driven over 20k miles and I love it. Drives very smooth, i dont even feel it shift. I got the SEL so not hybrid but i get 46 mpg at 75 mph, 52 mpg at 60 mph and 38-40 mpg in the city. The driver assist features are great, i basically dont have to do anything when i get on the highway until i leave the highway or if the lines break. It's the best handling car I've driven by far, I've driven a couple of bmws and Mercedes. I also have a 100k mile warranty on everything and a lifetime powertrain warranty which was the biggest selling point tbh

That was the big problem with the sonata hybrid at work when they first came out ... the car would literally buck trying to hunt for a gear, the transmission didn't last long. At the time they also had issues with the power relays for the HV battery pack overheating.
I actually prefer CVT for hybrid, it matches the power curve better.

You can tell Scotty hasn't driven that generation Elantra with a CVT. My wife has a 2022 one (and I hate CVTs too). But that CVT is awesome. They call theirs IVTs. I got a similar set-up, (I believe), with a 2017 Kia Niro PHEV with the dual-clutch and 1.6 liter engine. Been changing fluids regularly and so far nothing amiss. Transmission fluid was quite easy to change because if you overfill it will drip out, so you know when you are done. I think best to be wary of the dual clutch "actuator" fluid which seems to get dirty quite fast. But also very easy to check, drain and refill.

Its very smooth in fact. Longevity? Of course I have no clue but I needed that big warranty in case something serious goes amiss. Like it or not CVT is here to stay and in fact within 5 years you're gonna be hard pressed to find a geared auto tranny. Yep the writing is on the wall. My suggestion regarding these things is to keep the lead atta your foot! My brother recently rode with me and he could not believe the easy egress for such a physically small exterior. He was impressed with how quiet it was as well for such a "cheap" (if you can call ANY new vehicle cheap) vehicle.

Ideally, I wouldn't get either a CVT or a DCT in my car, but if I have to choose, I'd much sooner pick the former. Both have their drivability issues, but CVTs are far more reliable, especially the eCVT used in Toyota hybrids (which is a different design than regular CVTs). Hyundai has had a lot of issues with the DCTs used in their gasoline vehicles (I think there's even a class action suit) and there's no reason to think that the DCT on this hybrid would fare any better. And this is not a Hyundai-specific problem either since there's no car brand that I can think of that hasn't had issues with their DCTs! So, I'm surprised by Scotty's positive review to say the least, especially since he always trashes Hyundai's! Maybe the 'big' owner standing by was a factor, lol.

If Hyundai/Kia would pull their heads out of their full point of contact and fix the engine issues they have had now for several years now, they would be solid cars. Have a 2018 Sorento and other than the oil burn issue, it's been a good vehicle. Son has a 2018 Forte (Elantra sister) and it's been ok as well and it has a regular 6 speed trans. If you don't know what I mean about oil burn issue, look it up.

The get about 60mpg and have that same 6 speed automatic transmission because that 1.6L turbo diesel is the hottest thing there is without paying double the price in Luxury tax. It accelerates like a Mustang, you can feel the G force even when the car has 4 passengers. I like it so much I bought one for myself for $9k with 20k miles on it. I would buy another one in the US in a heartbeat but they will never be sold there.

Trouble is, hyundai lures you into their showroom with the 25 grand price, but they don't have a single one on the lot. I also looked for a Tucson. I wanted front drive only. But they had zero available. The salesman himself admitted that hyundai advertises cheap prices on their cars, but only ships out their fully loaded vehicles hoping to get you to spend more. So I gave up.

I'm telling you all. This is a great car and I'm 100% happy with my Hyundai Elantra 2021 Ult Tech package. Best part is it's all paid off already so I'm only paying gas on it.
Paid 33k (Canadian) after tax etc. Even in 3-4 years I can still sell it for 17k. So really I'd be looking at a $16,000 cost for the car over the 7-8 years I have it. That works out to 190/month for a new car with an amazing warranty.
    I haven't been without a few issues.
My driver Seatback bolts came loose, meaning my driver seat would move/shift around on turns. Replaced under warranty.
Other issues were recall issues that were fixed. (Exploding seatbelt pretensioner) and something to do with the main brain/cluster. Both quickly fixed at no cost.
Otherwise, even after three years I look forward to driving it like it was the first day. Not a single time have I looked at another car for what I could afford at the time and be like, I should have got that one...
My next car when I sell this one will 100% be an Elantra N or another N something depending on what's around.
