The AC stops working in the hellcat when you floor it because it uses refrigerant to cool itself. Something called a power chiller.
is it supposed to always do that? I thought that was a setting for the drag strip.

Omg… no it’s not when you floor it, or even in sport mode. It’s ONLY in full track mode. I have a 2019 challenger hellcat redeye.

I'm pretty sure when you stomp the gas pedal into the floor it results in the engine being put under the same load as when you're driving hard in track mode; requiring the same amount of cooling, thus briefly activating the system. I dont have a 2019 challenger hellcat redeye.
It’s hard to believe that 2023 will be the Hellcat’s final year. It’s been one hell of a run.
But to be fair, the Hellcat motor itself technically isn’t dead yet. We still have the TRX and the Durango Hellcat coming back for 2023.

So I'm not a Dodge fan... But these last few years of the V8 for Dodge has really made me appreciate the modern Charger and Challenger and I think I'm beginning to understand.
My favorite is undoubtedly the 2018 Dodge Demon. Crazy how like none* of the modern Dodge Hellcats/Red-Eyes/Jailbreaks meet or exceed the Demon's 808-840hp

The demon was a car that dodge intended to be the very top, no production model dodge puts out will match the demon imo (unless they move to hydrogen engines like other companies such as Hyundai and Toyota are researching.)

Great video! Watching this makes me think of two things:
1. Dodge gives their vehicles a super long name, almost have to take a breath before I can say it all at once.
2. Your audio for recording sounds like the engine and tire squeals are really clean. If I may ask, how do you record the audio? Shotgun mic? Zoom? Lav mic next to the exhaust tips?
It's funny because people sometimes complain about the car audio recording, blaming it on me rather than the car. Some cars sound like trash. The answer is also yes to all of those mics. Mic type and placement depends on the type of car. This one was mic'd up in the engine Bay and the exhaust at the same time for accurate supercharger and exhaust sounds
Exhaust tips? Do electric motors produce exhaust? Recorded exhaust noise…..

I believe the reason the AC gets warm when you floor the car too much is because the car disconnects the AC compressor at full throttle to give you maximum power.
It uses the a/c for chilling air charge to motor for consistent hp

I think Dodge realized they never made a convertible Challenger because they probably watched Doug DeMuro's video from a month or two explaining what most car automakers should have came with at first to begin with.

The news of the hellcat going away hits really close to home for me. I wasn't much of a car guy growing up but I always had a thing for dodge. And tbh if it wasn't for the hellcat I probably wouldn't have decided to become a mechanic and start of my career working at a dodge dealership and fixing these beasts, along with building my own r/t challenger. It's gonna be a depressing 2023 but I'm looming forward to what my company does in the future just hope it's something cool
Sadly it looks like whole line is going away. Theyre cutting all the muscle cars. And a few years later when sales have crashed Dodge will be headed out the door.

As a college student, this has been my dream ever since they came out and I am sad and disappointed that it's going away. hopefully I can get one in the near future.
I'm also a college student, but I'm a first year freshmen, and I've always loved these even though I'm mostly a Mustang type of guy!
I love the way Dodge has gone lately and the Hellcat everything mentality. They really have destroyed Ford and Chevy in terms of power for a while now. And the quality and reliability have gone way up as well. Kudos to Dodge for going out in style with the Hellcat models and offering rolling chassis now as well as bodies from the factory.
Yeah, the power is nice, but the ZL1/GT500 still win a drag race, on a road course, and look better.
Dodge make a great classic muscle car; no one beats them in that. But that's all they are. Because of their heavy nature, they are slower then their competitors.

Fun fact about the Charger Daytona concept, the noise it makes has nothing to do with speakers at all. Instead, the noise is made similar to that of a pipe organ and if you were to stand behind the vehicle, you would actually feel the air come out. Furthermore, you can also feel the gear changes.

The vacuum cleaner was so accurate. 🤣 I felt embarrassed for dodge when they brought that car out and it was making that noise. 🤣 I just can’t believe they didn’t think to just do both EVs and gas vehicles. Do you guys think automobile manufacturers like Dodge who go full EV will end up sinking their profits? I think this is a gigantic mistake.
I owned a 2016 Charger Hellcat. Great fun car, but the EV version will eat it for breakfast. Dodge isn't into making slow cars. Drive a Model Y performance or Tesla Plaid and understand that INSTANT MONSTER TORQUE ends all debate. My Hellcat was the car with no soul after I did 0-60 in 2.2 seconds. All of the noise and smoke of my old Hellcat ends up being embarrassing against superior electric muscle. Trump nuts think this is a political fight (in their little minds), but I guess they just want to go VROOOOM and be slow.

I like that dodge is atleast trying to make their new EV sound good. No one else is trying to do that and I think that is a big issue for most car guys going from gas/diesel to electric. One of the best parts about owning something fun is the sound.

They made these Hellcats for 8 years and aren't that rare. This platform has been in use starting from the charger in 2005. That will be 18 years in 2023. Not to mention it wasn't exactly a new platform in 05 riding on 90s Mercedes parts bin suspension design. Most car companies would have given us 2 or even 3 new generations of a model for that time while Chrysler just continued with face lifts and small updates here and there. I think its one of the most successful finesses in the auto industry. They've convinced people to buy damn near the same car for almost 18 years.

Thank you for saying "like those guys from Germany ... nope, we're not going to allow this." That is such a ridiculous thing that manufacturers don't allow certain color combinations. If I'm building it, and that's what I want, then freaking make it that way!! There is no reason whatsoever that the color of exterior should limit my choice of interior and vice versa. Same with trim level too. I wanted the GV70 3.5 (it's a beautiful and amazing vehicle!), but that engine makes the trim a sport and therfore only certain colors and type of seats can be had. I wanted the matte green with the brown leather and the 3.5 engine, but you can't do that. There is zero reason to do it that way, and it just pisses off the consumers. Needless to say, I didn't get that car.
Sounds like you don't understand brand value. Porsche is one of the most desirable brands of any product, ever. Why would they have any interest in allowing customers with no taste spec stupid color combos and then drive them around, thus advertising a product that is inferior to its potential? With something more mass produced like the GV70, limiting customization = less expensive to produce. Great reasons in both situations.

I don't think the electric version is using speakers, I read somewhere they're pushing air thru an exhaust system to make the noise.
Wonder if they are pushing air through vehicle for a purpose or just for the noise. I can't think of a use for pushing air on an EV.
@@jzamano I believe they're pushing air from the grill to the exhaust just for exhaust noise. Might sound dumb but it is different from what every other ev is doing so it's pretty cool that they're trying to keep some old school, in my opinion.

Ones a weapon on the circuit and ones a weapon in a straight line. They’re just kinda built different. That said I think they should do it to see if the GT500 is better in a straight line than a challenger wide body is around a circuit. 😁👍

The 'exhaust' sound on the Daytona isn't a speaker though, it's the electric motors pushing air through the exhaust pipes. It sounds dumb, but I like it BECAUSE it's not just a dumb speaker.

My father had 69 Roadrunner 383 engine , Dodge cornet 440 Barrcuda 340 and a Plymouth Fury III when I was growing up.When l got old enough, l drove the Plymouth Barracuda 340 to high school everyday. I had 4 Challengers, 2 SRT’s and 2 Hellcats, the last was a 2018 Widebody. The Challenger is a great riding car, and very decent mpg on the highway.I enjoyed driving every one of them. I sold the 2108 and bought a 2017 Grand Sport with only 2300 miles. I sold the Hellcat for a few reasons. 1. I didn’t t want to kill myself, with the back wheels trying to catch up with the front wheels. 2. The assholes driving Hellcats on the Turnpike like idiots, weaving between cars at 100 mph. The assholes are the people who kill the Dodge brand. 3. That’s it, I just didn’t want to be associated with this group.
