I always held off sekiro because I knew it was a parry or die geme and I sucked at parrying in souls games, I finally gave it a shot and had the most fun gaming experience I ever had, truly no more rewarding game than when this game finally clicks

I've given up on a few games because they weren't my type of thing, got boring asf or simply too stressful. I love DS games, but i have to be in the mood for them. The English voice acting is unbelievably shit, I would rather play on Italian than English. It's objectively bad too, the microphones they were using cut out sometimes and it just made the audio Mr. Destructoid.

@@robofish312 Those are miniboss. You literally breeze them if you know how this game works for the first time. They're not hard. The thing you need to remember is to dodge when required and parry most of the attacks.
People seem to forget. Had mcconnell not stepped in and saved asmons ds1 run from the bottomless hole he was digging for himself he would have quit the game in sens fortress. The only reason he started liking it was because mcconnell was constantly telling him to not quit and stop complaining. The game that he wanted to stop playing is now one of his favorites. And he started disliking ds3 only during his shitshow with nameless king AKA when he started dying a lot and refused to try a different approach. Same thing here. Found a mini boss where the game was trying to force him to learn a core gameplay mechanic but refused to and started dying a lot = quit the game/dont know about this game/i just dont care about games/[insert one of the dozen excuses he has come up with]
True, it was almost physically painful to watch him actually READ THE SKILL after the chat implored him, and then he just plain refused to use it in the fight.. that fight exists literally for you to use makiri and learn the counter.

That's a good gamer. 26 hours on your first playthrough in Sekiro is really good and he slacked like hell at times. He even ordered food irl and shit. This was back when everybody was still learning the game and he literally beat it in 2 days (14+12 hours). Elajjaz got the game a couple of days earlier, otherwise they would have been head to head. If not Dist would have beaten it first. There might have been some other hardcore dudes in the mix, it wasn't really a race and even these gamers played it "casual" on their first run.
@@Sandlund93 26 hours is a very normal playtime amount for a first playthrough. I recently played through the game blind last month and it took me 24 hours to finish on steam. Online says somewhere around 30. I believe it took Penguinz0 around 15 hours on his first playthrough.

The most pathetic thing about all this is that he didn't quit out of a lack of skill. As slow as he was on the uptake he still did decently well on the Ogre, and everything else. The sad thing is his complete refusal to LEARN. He doesn't read the tutorials, he doesn't try to approach anything differently until the chat has to stop being cancerous for a moment to spam him into doing something, he just refuses to put effort into something that's not WoW. Like the game literally tells him to use the Mikiri, the chat is screaming at him to use the Mikiri, he has people more than willing to teach him every step of the way what other players had to figure out for themselves... and he just doesn't. If he had put any thought into engaging the Shinobi Hunter, he'd have easily been able to stealth out an entire health bar and then obliterate him in 10 seconds with Mikiris. But he doesn't. And then he gets bored and makes a dozen excuses before quitting and going back to WoW again, a game that he's already stated that he increasingly hates. It's sad, really.
he did use mikiri a couple of times it takes a while to get used to. he just didnt care enough about the game to continue playing it, really he was just doing it for the stream. also he never said he hates WoW he always says that he criticizes it cause of how much he loves and cares about it. also what kind of excuses did he make? he didnt make any he literally stated that he can beat shinobi hunter if he gave it a couple more tries he just isnt having fun and doesnt care about the game enough. i mean hey he can play whatever he wants

@@Megatraum504 is there a parry? Brother that's the entire game... You also unlock prosthetic weapons and 5 weapons arts skill trees throughout the game. Also, there are 3 different counters for special moves that you cannot dodge/parry. Once you've beaten the game, you can also attempt the gauntlets (all the bosses in a row), and even make the game more difficult by playing with demon bell and without kuros charm.

I think he knows that it would be a game his viewers knew he would rage at and he knew THAT would be entertaining to them. It just got to a point where he realized that his frustration outweighed his willingness to entertain his viewers, so he quit.
So in short he rage quits because he cant read, and therefore can't bruteforce the fights through wildly flailing his sword without any semblance of tactic or actual moves. "WHY CANT I JUST SWING AND WHY ARENT THEY FALLING."
That part of the game was a mikiri test! One or two mikiri counters with a few deflects will drain his posture. This game isn't about bashing away mindlessly, it's about observing the opponent and learning how to counter adequately.

It took me 3 years to finally buy this game after looking at it off and on probably dozens of times and I honestly regret waiting so long this game is nothing short of amazing definitely a challenge and a steep learning curve but oh so rewarding when you stick it out and get in the groove hands down one of the best single player experiences I have had in a while!! Currently stuck progressing through senpou temple and having a blast!!
same for me, I bought after waiting for ages and then I kinda regret it since the game feels too challenging and it requires tons of time and practice. I'm currently stuck at the final boss and it feels impossible to beat him.

Yeah I was bad at Sekiro and it wasn't fun but I just got good and it became one of the funnest most genuine gaming experiences I've had. He stopped trying to deflect after like 30 minutes then just jumped away from attacks. You HAVE to deflect that's just the way the game/posture work. He also doesn't read things then wonders why he's getting cucked i.e mikiri counter
Genichiro will do that to you. He was my first really big wall, even though it was a struggle to even get to him. But beating him is all about nailing the deflect system and staying aggressive. By the time I met him for a third time as part of the Sword Saint encounter he was actually very easy all of a sudden. Well, by then I could cheese a bit with Mortal Draw but still. I wen't on to beat the game 4 times for platinum, which would have never happened if I had decided that "this game is just not for me". That's a loser mindset if it comes from a place of skill issue, imo. I even finish games that I'm really bored with, otherwise I feel like it's not really fair of me to judge them. Because I don't have the full experience. Giving up on a game is like watching half a movie, I'd rather waste more time and judge it fairly.

Well, if you feel offended, try my perspective next time you hit a wall or feel bored with a game. For the former, attempting a boss 50 times with no victory in sight, only to kill it on the 52nd attempt might actually become the most thrilling gaming experience you've ever had. Another proof that his mind is becoming more and more incapable playing any other thing than WoW. Everything where he cannot utilize his wow faceroll muscle memory makes him go apeshit and frustrates him. Before that last miniboss he wasn't even playing bad though. Had he been using stealth and Mikiri this one would have gone down easily.

You throw the controll to the side and catch up hours (or next day) later with a clear mind. Since you 'can't' really do that on a stream, the frustration will build higher than in a home/more casual play wich end up in rage quit.

I first tried to fight the spear bro, I died 50 times, and stucked 3 hours when fighting a main boss called Genichiro. But after him, I'll be able to pass each coming boss or mini-boss in 5 tries. This game can really train you up.
Eh, I was pissed because it probably took me at least this long to beat Genichiro. I thought I overcame the mountain of the game, and it would just be a fun challenge after that. Turns out there are like 5 bosses tougher than Genichiro and they can take at least as long to conquer. I was at Sword Saint for like 10 hours
I absolutely vibed with this game. I didn't die up until the two apes (since it's a cheese fight). HOWEVER, when I got to Demon of Hatred, I realized how utterly, insanely hard he is. I was stuck on him for days until I finally resorted to the cheese. To this day I haven't beaten him legit. It's too goddamn hard.

LOL the shinobi assassin (“boss” with spear he died 100s of times on) is a training enemy used to teach you the mikiri counter. If you bait him, he will almost always use his thrust attack to force you to stomp on his spear. This was hard to watch…

Problems always arise if you dont allow yourself to understand anything about a game. If you do not read properly, you will get in a spot where you will be lost, because you didnt read the information handed to you. If you dont invest a bit of time in reading mechanics, you will of course get destroyed, because you cannot suceed in this game. Why split my focus between reading the subtitles and watching the characters when I can just listen to them speaking my native tongue? But subtitles never throw you away from the game experience, i never felt to miss something when i played a game or watch a movie in VO because of that, but sure if you're not trained to reading while watching something it can be difficult but that's a good way to learn new language (and this is why most of english people have a bad reputation about learning new language than their own). But anyway for the most of the game you don't even have subtitles during combat because dialogues are always in scripted phase. The problem in this case is that the english dub is realy, realy bad compared even to the other dubs and it break easly the immersion. Why all the successfull Sekiro streamers played it in japanese (sodapopin, ninja, Lobosjr etc.) without any problem ? It's because they prefer the immersion over the "native language safe space" that most of english speaker do.

Between him charging head-first into every enemy, chat screaming the answers for 40 min, him immediately closing all the in-game messages without reading it, and eventually rage quitting after failing to kill a MOB after 2+ hours (took me literally three attempts), this was a hilarious total mess lmao I could see his Elden Ring showing so many times with him trying to do his OP "jump attack" and rolling/dodging instead of actually blocking or partying.
Goes to show the only way Asmon can beat any Souls-like game is by overleveling and using OP weapons and facetanking everything and farming levels. You got none of that in Sekiro, im not surprised he never made it very far in the game before quitting.
I think this game is his kryptonite no matter what he does. Asmon always does the 'no-brain-tank-everything' strat which works well for most of fromsoft games except sekiro.

He said on multiple occasions that streaming on his main channel stresses him out. People don’t realize how hard it is to stream, you need to play the game, interact with chat and be entertaining. That’s why wow was his main game for so long, he knew everything so all he had to do was focus on the entertainment part

@@Conri99 i bought it, played 13hours and dropped it. the game is to hard, and i don't have the time and will to learn the mechanics, also this game is linear so you can't go do something else. in my opinion this game is worse then elden ring, ds3, i would not even call them the same, because sekiro doesn't have any of the same aspects like those games. only 33% or something finished sekiro, so that explains enough
@@MrStolboy I won't say I didn't think only 33% of players finished the game it's weird, this game isn't that hard at all, you just parry all attacks, jump when there's an undercut and dodge when the enemy tries to grab you. I also played Elden Ring, also one of the best games I've ever played, but Sekiro is a completely different shelf, I've never had such satisfaction from any game. Elden Ring at some point already started to bore me it was too simple for me even when I tried to make the game more difficult for myself and the combat system is also boring, you just roll every opponent's attack when in Sekiro you parry like a badass and that looks like really fight and game seems much more balanced. The Shinobi hunter made me quit playing several years ago. Decided to go back it and just defeated the immortal monk. Glad I got back in. Super satisfying gameplay.
I would say that most Soulslike punish you for about 30 hours. Then you get the hang of things, possibly even making them too easy at times. But then they step up the difficulty again as you close in on the endgame bosses. I will say though that I was too overpowered in Bloodborne by the time I beat my first run, even the DLC was too easy after beating all chalice dungeons. NG+ and NG++ didn't add much difficulty either, but that's overlevelling for ya. And Elden Ring was pretty much the same thing until I walled on NG++ Elden Beast. But I never took Elden Ring and Bloodborne seriously, I just spammed dodge and R1. Sekiro requires a bit more.

I kind of agree with his reasoning at the end there. It's why I don't play most FPS games anymore. I see the appeal, I see what I would need to do to get better at them, but I just don't fucking care enough about the genre to put the effort in. Key to kost boss fights is to be heavy on offense, wait for them to parry you, then react to what they do after they parry. You either parry them back, jump an attack, or mikiri counter.
@@danielbrowning3715 TBH, I wish they made it to where you couldn't just spam parry. My buddy just spams and parrys most hits... it's cringe af to watch when I actually time every parry. I feel like if you miss a parry attempt 2 or more times before an attack lands, your next parry should fail... but the game was already too hard for many people so they game probably would've made substantially less money if they did this.
This is the type of game that makrs you feel proud after beating it. Every boss is like a challenge to your self esteem and you feel amzing after overcoming it

During the last hour he even ignored twitch chat, even though they were literally telling him exactly what to do. The experience of trying to learn the hardest game he had ever tried, and stream while doing it, overwhelmed him. You cannot think about "content" before you know how the game works, not in a game like Sekiro. So it is understandable that he needed to regroup and beat the game on his more chill channel. I bet he took his time then, instead of trying to bruteforce-stomp-rush through it. And once you figure out that you can deplete many bosses' hp bar by stealth death blowing them, half the difficulty is pretty much gone. He just wasn't patient enough to experiment with different strategies, which might have lead to him learning this key feature by mistake. At least not until he finally beat the game on his other channel.
Funny thing about Asmon is that he tries to picture himself as a "natural pro" in games, so at the same time i think his chat is stupid for telling him things like "haha u dumb, should do this/ why dont do this", i think he deserves that. He skips all tutorials and hopes he will destroy any game, so he asks for that imo.
The last fight was so frustrating to watch.I was getting frustrated when I saw that he just didn't even read the advices nor did he stop to think for a second on how he could improve. It's useless even if he fights this mini boss 50 times if he knows nothing of the mechanics. This game is really amazing for this. It doesn't let you go until you truly understand.

People seem to forget. Had mcconnell not stepped in and saved asmons ds1 run from the bottomless hole he was digging for himself he would have quit the game in sens fortress. The only reason he started liking it was because mcconnell was constantly telling him to not quit and stop complaining. The game that he wanted to stop playing is now one of his favorites.
And he started disliking ds3 only during his shitshow with nameless king AKA when he started dying a lot and refused to try a different approach. Same thing here. That's a good gamer. 26 hours on your first playthrough in Sekiro is really good and he slacked like hell at times. He even ordered food irl and shit. This was back when everybody was still learning the game and he literally beat it in 2 days (14+12 hours). Elajjaz got the game a couple of days earlier, otherwise they would have been head to head. If not Dist would have beaten it first. There might have been some other hardcore dudes in the mix, it wasn't really a race and even these gamers played it "casual" on their first run.
@@Sandlund93 26 hours is a very normal playtime amount for a first playthrough. I recently played through the game blind last month and it took me 24 hours to finish on steam. Online says somewhere around 30. I believe it took Penguinz0 around 15 hours on his first playthrough.

The most pathetic thing about all this is that he didn't quit out of a lack of skill. As slow as he was on the uptake he still did decently well on the Ogre, and everything else. The sad thing is his complete refusal to LEARN. He doesn't read the tutorials, he doesn't try to approach anything differently until the chat has to stop being cancerous for a moment to spam him into doing something, he just refuses to put effort into something that's not WoW. Like the game literally tells him to use the Mikiri, the chat is screaming at him to use the Mikiri, he has people more than willing to teach him every step of the way what other players had to figure out for themselves... and he just doesn't. If he had put any thought into engaging the Shinobi Hunter, he'd have easily been able to stealth out an entire health bar and then obliterate him in 10 seconds with Mikiris.
But he doesn't. And then he gets bored and makes a dozen excuses before quitting and going back to WoW again, a game that he's already stated that he increasingly hates. It's sad, really.

@@Megatraum504 is there a parry? Brother that's the entire game... You also unlock prosthetic weapons and 5 weapons arts skill trees throughout the game. Also, there are 3 different counters for special moves that you cannot dodge/parry. Once you've beaten the game, you can also attempt the gauntlets (all the bosses in a row), and even make the game more difficult by playing with demon bell and without kuros charm.

It took me more tries to kill that ogre then every DS3 boss except for sister friede and I did every single DS3 boss there is in the game.
It took me 3 years to finally buy this game after looking at it off and on probably dozens of times and I honestly regret waiting so long this game is nothing short of amazing definitely a challenge and a steep learning curve but oh so rewarding when you stick it out and get in the groove hands down one of the best single player experiences I have had in a while!! Currently stuck progressing through senpou temple and having a blast!!

Yeah I was bad at Sekiro and it wasn't fun but I just got good and it became one of the funnest most genuine gaming experiences I've had. He stopped trying to deflect after like 30 minutes then just jumped away from attacks. You HAVE to deflect that's just the way the game/posture work. He also doesn't read things then wonders why he's getting cucked i.e mikiri counter
Genichiro will do that to you. He was my first really big wall, even though it was a struggle to even get to him. But beating him is all about nailing the deflect system and staying aggressive. By the time I met him for a third time as part of the Sword Saint encounter he was actually very easy all of a sudden. Well, by then I could cheese a bit with Mortal Draw but still. I wen't on to beat the game 4 times for platinum, which would have never happened if I had decided that "this game is just not for me". That's a loser mindset if it comes from a place of skill issue, imo. I even finish games that I'm really bored with, otherwise I feel like it's not really fair of me to judge them. Because I don't have the full experience. Giving up on a game is like watching half a movie, I'd rather waste more time and judge it fairly.

Yeah. I don't really think Asmongold likes games that rely on reaction time that much. He seems more into strategy, theory crafting and grinding (hehe). If you don't like something you are naturally going to be worse at it since you have no motivation to get better. The negativity in his chat is also out of this world which affects him a lot. I first tried to fight the spear bro, I died 50 times, and stucked 3 hours when fighting a main boss called Genichiro. But after him, I'll be able to pass each coming boss or mini-boss in 5 tries.
This game can really train you up.
Eh, I was pissed because it probably took me at least this long to beat Genichiro. I thought I overcame the mountain of the game, and it would just be a fun challenge after that. Turns out there are like 5 bosses tougher than Genichiro and they can take at least as long to conquer. I was at Sword Saint for like 10 hours
I absolutely vibed with this game. I didn't die up until the two apes (since it's a cheese fight). HOWEVER, when I got to Demon of Hatred, I realized how utterly, insanely hard he is. I was stuck on him for days until I finally resorted to the cheese. To this day I haven't beaten him legit. It's too goddamn hard.
It's always the hardest in the early hours of a FromSoft game but it's much more punishing and difficult in Sekiro

But subtitles never throw you away from the game experience, i never felt to miss something when i played a game or watch a movie in VO because of that, but sure if you're not trained to reading while watching something it can be difficult but that's a good way to learn new language (and this is why most of english people have a bad reputation about learning new language than their own).
But anyway for the most of the game you don't even have subtitles during combat because dialogues are always in scripted phase. The problem in this case is that the english dub is realy, realy bad compared even to the other dubs and it break easly the immersion. Why all the successfull Sekiro streamers played it in japanese (sodapopin, ninja, Lobosjr etc.) without any problem ? It's because they prefer the immersion over the "native language safe space" that most of english speaker do.

Strength players when they can't one-shot everything in the game and have to get good:
I think this game is his kryptonite no matter what he does. Asmon always does the 'no-brain-tank-everything' strat which works well for most of fromsoft games except sekiro.
Seeing how he had struggled with DS1 and DS3 I was quite impressed he managed to get that far in Sekiro.

I mean sekiro is great but it’s not some impossible challenge, anybody can beat it as long as they actually want to. Asmond is just brain dead and didn’t read any tutorial or listen to any advice the game gave him.
@@YannMetalhead he actually beat both sekiro and ds2 on his second stream, he is a lot more chill and laid back there. He said on multiple occasions that streaming on his main channel stresses him out. People don’t realize how hard it is to stream, you need to play the game, interact with chat and be entertaining. That’s why wow was his main game for so long, he knew everything so all he had to do was focus on the entertainment part

@@Conri99 i bought it, played 13hours and dropped it. the game is to hard, and i don't have the time and will to learn the mechanics, also this game is linear so you can't go do something else. in my opinion this game is worse then elden ring, ds3, i would not even call them the same, because sekiro doesn't have any of the same aspects like those games. only 33% or something finished sekiro, so that explains enough
@@MrStolboy I won't say I didn't think only 33% of players finished the game it's weird, this game isn't that hard at all, you just parry all attacks, jump when there's an undercut and dodge when the enemy tries to grab you. I also played Elden Ring, also one of the best games I've ever played, but Sekiro is a completely different shelf, I've never had such satisfaction from any game. Elden Ring at some point already started to bore me it was too simple for me even when I tried to make the game more difficult for myself and the combat system is also boring, you just roll every opponent's attack when in Sekiro you parry like a badass and that looks like really fight and game seems much more balanced.

The Shinobi hunter made me quit playing several years ago. Decided to go back it and just defeated the immortal monk. Glad I got back in. Super satisfying gameplay.
I would say that most Soulslike punish you for about 30 hours. Then you get the hang of things, possibly even making them too easy at times. But then they step up the difficulty again as you close in on the endgame bosses. I will say though that I was too overpowered in Bloodborne by the time I beat my first run, even the DLC was too easy after beating all chalice dungeons. NG+ and NG++ didn't add much difficulty either, but that's overlevelling for ya. And Elden Ring was pretty much the same thing until I walled on NG++ Elden Beast. But I never took Elden Ring and Bloodborne seriously, I just spammed dodge and R1. Sekiro requires a bit more.
@@Sandlund93 yeah if you over level like I did as well elden ring and Bloodborne it's easy af. With Sekiro you need legit skill and timing. You can't just cheese through it which I really appreciate. Bloodborne still my fav though. Lovecraft for life!

I kind of agree with his reasoning at the end there. It's why I don't play most FPS games anymore.
I see the appeal, I see what I would need to do to get better at them, but I just don't fucking care enough about the genre to put the effort in.

Key to kost boss fights is to be heavy on offense, wait for them to parry you, then react to what they do after they parry. You either parry them back, jump an attack, or mikiri counter.
Once you learn to hear when they parry you, it makes the game 10x easier

@@danielbrowning3715 TBH, I wish they made it to where you couldn't just spam parry. My buddy just spams and parrys most hits... it's cringe af to watch when I actually time every parry. I feel like if you miss a parry attempt 2 or more times before an attack lands, your next parry should fail... but the game was already too hard for many people so they game probably would've made substantially less money if they did this.
This is the type of game that makrs you feel proud after beating it. Every boss is like a challenge to your self esteem and you feel amzing after overcoming it

Fortunately he redeemed his stupidity later on.
During the last hour he even ignored twitch chat, even though they were literally telling him exactly what to do. The experience of trying to learn the hardest game he had ever tried, and stream while doing it, overwhelmed him. You cannot think about "content" before you know how the game works, not in a game like Sekiro. So it is understandable that he needed to regroup and beat the game on his more chill channel. I bet he took his time then, instead of trying to bruteforce-stomp-rush through it. And once you figure out that you can deplete many bosses' hp bar by stealth death blowing them, half the difficulty is pretty much gone. He just wasn't patient enough to experiment with different strategies, which might have lead to him learning this key feature by mistake. At least not until he finally beat the game on his other channel.

The last fight was so frustrating to watch.I was getting frustrated when I saw that he just didn't even read the advices nor did he stop to think for a second on how he could improve. It's useless even if he fights this mini boss 50 times if he knows nothing of the mechanics. This game is really amazing for this. It doesn't let you go until you truly understand.
