One of the best radio reviews I've seen/heard. So much more than opening up a box. Keep up the good work.
In a sea of bad reviews (as in surface reviews that are of no help and give zero insight into the specifics and nuances of a radio like this), this one is thorough, expansive and tags all the important questions. Applaud the work you put in and that website on the English stations. Well done and thank you.
It's a nice radio and works well and has good sound quality. It holds a signal well. The Nuvola-Frontier site has lots of stations, good enough for me. It works well on D-Cell rechargeable batteries, too. One warning is that the battery compartment is tight, and the only rechargeable batteries that fit (and very tightly) are Duracells, and the only place I could get them were on Ebay. But the Duracells last what seems like permanently so you never have to take them out (and you don't want to, since it's so hard to get them in).
But once in, the internal charger in the radio works fine. Just plug the radio in and they charge up fine.
Again, the radio has no problem with getting a wifi signal at home and attaining/maintaining a station.
Very helpful review. Thank you. I could see having more than one of these radios in a home. It would nice to be able to sync the configurations somehow.
I am curious, have there been any firmware or other upgrades to the radio in the time since you made this video. I noticed on the english-radio website the list has grown to 168 stations. Nice. Excellent review, I am considering this radio vs the Ocean Digital WR23D. Thanks again, this video has been very helpful.

My 2013 model still works perfectly
It needs 1.6 amps to charge the batteries (not for normal usage of the radio)
Thanks for this review, it's useful. But a couple of questions remain...
"the radio uses a specific internet server to call up the station" -- that's called an aggregator service, and we need to know which one it is. I have an older Grace IR which was linked to Reciva, which is now defunct so the radio is becoming a paperweight. We need to know this. Does "adding your own stations through a browser" mean you can add stations that may NOT be in the aggregator? Because that would be fine. Actually it would be ideal.
Also, I don't see any display of the specs of the stream specs, such as "AAC 64Mb/s". Is this available somewhere?
Would have liked to see a demo of how you do a search including entering characters, as opposed to just searching what's available. I replaced my Grace with an Ocean model and it's completely counterintuitive.
And finally I'd like to know how long the sleep timer can be set for. This is another feature where the Ocean falls far short.
This radio uses silicon-frontier radio web site if you want to enjoy full feature of this radio you must register this radio with that site, it's is free.
This is a nice Radio, However; I have this Radio and it has develop a problem of cutting out every few minutes and then reconnecting all by itself. Have anyone solved this problem?

Piran, the radio provides an ID code with which you can log into the frontier website. You can manage your favorites, add new streams and perform other tasks there, the sync with the radio is instant.
I have enjoyed the radio and its database if US AM and FM stations. One thing I cannot figure out is how to get the giant gaping hole of missing stations from Iheart radio. I can pull up their streams on a browser and copy the IP address to the My Added Stations, but none of them connect. Have you cracked the code with IHeart radio stations? For example, I was trying to load WTAM 1100 Cleveland and I cannot get it to play in the My added Stations.
This used to be a great radio when it came out the last few years.Buttttt this Radio lost 90% of its radio stations and there is NO upgrades on the Radio.I have a grace internet radio that also LOST most of its stations about 2 years ago buttttt Grace upgraded this with a IHEART Radio app where I get alllllll of the AM radio stations that I want(NONE ARE MISSING}I still use the radio as a clock.Butttt using my Grace with Heart Radio at night.............JT
@@johnnytuinals9046 The Grace used Reciva, right? Does that mean the Sangean also uses Reciva? Trying to figure this one out.
@@notvalidcharacters Grace does not use Reciva. Reciva is completely gone. Grace is its own aggregator.

I have since replaced it with the Sangean reviewed here. Far better in most ways except the sleep timer is, again, way too short. The Grace I could program for up to 24 hours, this one only does 2.

4 months after owning it, it connor connect to my wifi. i made sure it was correct password, even removed it from my iphone and entering password again, and it was fine, but this radio simply will find my wifi, but refuses to maintain connection

the station directory works for me, I had to redo my favorites. Thomas (swling.com) has a good writeup on the problems and solutions

@ icholakov I scoured the site but couldn’t find any posts? My station directory is blank just like my presets. If you have a link handy it sure would be appreciated. I’m certainly not getting much help from anybody at Sangean. I get answers as varied as “network reset” to “new software update” that takes 72 hours to take effect. Whatever the reason my internet radio is no longer functioning.
