  • Now here is a fun product where every station search is a new world discovery. The CC Wifi radio dishes out so much for the listener's palate.

    The features I like about this radio:
    The station list is extensive.
    Audio from speaker is really good for a compact device.
    Simple, utilitarian look.
    Line-Out jack.
    Media player.
    No need for a computer whatsoever!
    The ability to build organized lists of stations using Reciva's website as an option is huge.
    Iheartradio and radio.com included with the radio.
    Pandora capability.
    Features that could be added or improved upon:
    Preset management on the device itself, if you loose the remote you will not be able to access them, unless you built a Reciva list.
    The remote...could be a lot better. You have to point it directly at the viewing window.
    Price, many competitors out there with lower cost alternatives.
    Overall, I'm glad this radio was my first experience into the realm of Wifi radio. There are others, but this one does it so well. I have another radio for review soon, and you can see what the differences are versus the price you pay.
    Thank you for watching!

    I have owned one of these for quite a few years, and my impressions are mixed. Though the speaker is small, the sound is surprisingly good. It's great to listen reliably to stations on the other side of the world with no fade and no static. And the radio is not difficult or complicated to use once you have it set up. The problems are all in the build quality of the hardware and software. My first one worked a couple years, then the wireless stopped working. It really would not connect, even though the radio worked fine when plugged into ethernet. (Of yes, the radio has changed over the years, through the model number has not changed. The two copies of it I have both have a wired ethernet jack on the back and both of them have firmware that differs from the other one and also from the one you reviewed here.) When I called Crane to see about a repair, they said it would cost $50 plus shipping, or they would let me buy a replacement radio for $50 -- a no-brainer choice. So now I have two of them. And the ethernet is flaky on both of them. One radio's wireless continues to not work at all, and the other seems to work intermittently. The radios' wireless interface is 802.11g, a quite old version of the standard that has worked OK but may not be supported on new wireless routers. Also, the buttons on the front of the radios are not durable and some of them have stopped working entirely, so the remote control is even more important than you noted in your review. The pluses: Easy to use and great sound. The cons: poor build quality and flaky software.

      For a second I was scratching my head but discovered as you said, there is a panel on the back (bottom center) that's covered under which would be the Ethernet port if it had one.

    After hearing the better singer songwriter Kpop used as OST's in Korean TV series ("K-dramas") I searched in vain for anything over the airwaves. I was gifted THIS radio set, my brother set it up and by searching LOCATION: ASIA I discovered multiple SE ASIA stations streaming nothing BUT Kpop! Even found a station of NOTHING but the kings of Kpop-- BTS, No commercials, no talk, just free listening! I LOVE IT. Searching around I found a station at the Arctic Circle playing 30's and 40's BIG BAND. Possibilities are truly endless.

    Hi Todd Erbert, Would you recommend this little guy as a good first purchase choice, for people just starting to get into HD / WiFi / internet radio? Is there anything better out there to be considered in terms of sound quality or value that you feel is comparable or superior? Sound quality is the most important criteria for me along with best value for the money. Thanks.

    Receiva service ends at 11:59 pm EST on April 30, 2021. Your 10 programmed Receiva Presets (0-9 and 10-99, see page 17 of manual) will still be locked in their assigned memory locations after the Receiva service is discontinued. I recommend that you confirm that your presets are working and what you want in the set's memory because you won't be able to update it after Receive is caput. BTW, appreciate your content very much.

    Hi, nice video! I really enjoy my Internet radios. Also, when I get small remotes like the one you show in the video, I use a learning remote to copy the commands so I can safely keep the original remotes. In this way I don't ware out the original and it allows me to reprogram a new learning remote if it ever wares out.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I too went through a couple of these before I got one where the wifi inside didn't die. It's been over a year since the last time I replaced it and it's been very solid ever since. I recommend this as being excellent for the price. I also have a couple of the Grace Digital (Encore and Encore+) which have a lot more features and have proven stable for all the years I had the first one so I bought a second. Still this is my radio that sits on my nightstand because of the small size and is almost perfectly reliable all the time. Third time is a charm.

    todderbert I am torn between the ka1103 and the ccranewifi radio. do you have any thoughts on what I should do.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, big question because both items are totally different. Here are some ideas to consider. Do you want a stand alone radio that requires no Wifi and will let you explore Ham operators and distant MW and SW stations and is portable so you can take it anywhere? or do you enjoy sitting at home with a table top radio that requires an internet connection to function, but has huge bonuses on the tons of content that can be discovered all over the states and world...crystal clear? I like both...if I had to choose between the two right now it would be the KA1103 because it's truly a take anywhere radio that can be used when the power goes out or when your off the grid. As another viewer mentioned the Tecsun PL-660 maybe a good upgrade to the 1103. I am planning on acquiring one of those soon. Of course there are many reviews out there about that radio.

Yes it does sports, news, talk radio...I use it for Coast to Coast on WHAS 840AM, and actually used it tonight to stream my local WBBM 780 news station so I could record it with my Audiomax that suffers from 9K tuning. Thank you so much for your quick reply & for you taking the time to review/video the radio. After researching the newest model, which implements Skytune since REICVA is obsolete, does get KZOO. Hurrah for mom! Just bought one.

      It is possible if someone is streaming it in a format that is usable by the radio. You add the radio stream manually and bingo you have it. Though someone would have to be running a server for it...and there is the question of lag...not good in a warned situation.

    So… Internet radio. Not satellite radio. But Pandora is still part of it even though they merged or are owned by SeriusXM?

    Thanks for the video! I have the Sangean WFR-28 and I LOVE IT! I liked it so much at home that I bought another one for my desk at work. IMHO, Wi-Fi Internet Radio is great. 👍

    This radio is awesome but, needs 2 things...1) An internal battery so its portable. That would also omit the transformer wall plug necessity. A USB (type C) power port would be better. 2) FM or WB capability. I already think C.C. radios are great! I am also aware of their change from the Reciva platform to SkyTune. They also added an external Wi-Fi antenna. Smart move...Maybe a LCD screen would make things a little nicer...Thanks TB!

    I just don’t see the appeal. It isn’t a real radio (no Internet, no dice) and what it does do, you could do more easily with a better interface on a computer, phone or tablet (along with everything else those devices can do.) I appreciate the demo though and I’m glad you like it.

      That's kind of how I felt until I took a chance on buying my Sangean WFR-28. Now *I LOVE IT.* 👍 Setting up the "radio" can take a little time and effort but, that's mainly due to having SO MANY stations / broadcasters to choose from. I actually find it easier to use and more enjoyable now than using a computer, phone, or tablet.
      The Sangean uses the Frontier Silicon service. They are currently showing that 34,000+ stations and 10,000+ podcasts are available. Here's their website: www.wifiradio-frontier.com/
      BTW, the Sangean does contain a conventional FM radio. Cheers! Bob 😎
