- In this episode of BlacktipH, we go fishing with Capt. Matt Budd and celebrity spearfishing personality Valentine Thomas, who is on a mission to prove to Josh that the Head of a Fish is the best-tasting part of the fish and that false albacore (we call them bonito in Florida) is good eating. We all doubted Valentine, but she proved us wrong!

Bonita are excellent eating if you fix them right. Years ago I caught a 3-footer and a tourist next to me caught about the same size. Old fisherman said if you've got some string in your tackle box cut them below the gills and hang them off the pier by their tail and let them bleed out. I lived on Anna Maria Island at the time and took them home, fillet them, soak them in brine overnight and then 6 hours in buttermilk. Fix them on the grill with some Everglades seasoning and they were fantastic. The other fish that nobody wants to eat but are excellent are sail cats.

I tried some Bonita a few weeks ago because i'll try anything once...while trolling for tuna we caught some.... you bleed it, cut out the massive bloodline and its solid! Just know how to prepare it! She's good addition!
Fish head has a lot of Mercury, but the eyes I believe are good, the head boiling 2hours with daikon just put some ginger and salt, before out to the plate put some cilantro。。。The head bone becomes crunchy crispy bone and the soup like milk…very tasty 😋

Valentine is a spearfishing god!
I started eating these last year and if handled well they taste almost as good as ahi tuna. Most people realize that in Japanese restaurants when you order “tuna” off the sushi menu for 2$ a piece it is really albie. I frequently eat them sashimi

Honestly, some of the first sushi I ever had was bonita that I caught and the deckhand sliced off some for us to try right there on the boat. Was actually pretty good with a little saltiness from the seawater

You should do an episode on the red tide that happens on the souther. West coast of Florida every year. It's always on the news as climate change, but every fisherman knows it's from the sugar farms. With your influence it'd probably make a difference.
It's more than likely both. Releases from sugar farms combjned with warmer oceans creating a better environment for algae bloom growth. The two explanations aren't mutually exclusive.
@@DiabetoDan its not from climate change that's a fact. Its the draining of lake Okeechobee I live in Florida and they do it yearly. Red tide is natural but the nitrogen and all other fertilizers they use drains down the rivers into the ocean causing a huge bloom of algae

in europe false albacore is known as a great eatin' fish and real Bonitos are common too, just as Bluefin and Yellowfin!!

Difference between good fish and bad is you can eat good fish naked off the grill and itll taste great, cant say the same with stuff like bonito and cats
In Hawaii we love them. Cut it right and it's amazing. No need to cook just eat them raw. Had some two nights ago with some raw wahoo.

I have eaten all the fish I use as bait, you can make ALL fish taste good, just have to know how to prepare and cook them!
I read "I give fish head" and I got worried for a second...
Bleed the Little Tunny
knock the fillets off
cut the center blood line out, you're left with an upper and lower loin
when you skin it, leave a tiny bit of meat, make your strips from the skin
don't discard the center bloodline, salt it, and make snapper candy out of it
you end up with 4 nice tuna loins to eat, 8 bonita strip, and chunk bait snapper candy

Believe it or not , most countries in the world eats fish heads and most people in South Asia sometimes prefer fish heads over other parts.
