Interesting. I know a lot of TASers especially call what you call ski drifts "Reo drifts", named after the TASer Reo (also known as pfmp721), who made very frequent use of them in his videos. I've heard people ask to rename the drift several times, but somehow the name has stuck with the community to this day, even if the drift has seen a lot of usage from other TASers too.
I kind of like this unscripted format a lot better. Not that there's anything wrong with scripted videos-- they have their benefits, like being able to explain things in a concise and simple manner. But there's something a lot more *human* about unscripted videos. It flows a lot more naturally.

@@kogmawmain8872 if there’s a shock don’t go for it. If you have a star the double is very very difficult, mega mushroom doesn’t speed you up enough. Same stuff as before. For a kart right after the tt starts press pause and then select change character. Select your character and then choose a bike. This makes it almost guaranteed to make it every time
Wow very helpful video, it's nice that someone actually touches up on and explains the terminology of this game. I as a beginner actually had to figure it all out my self and it wasn't fun so this is great!

I have never realized how many abbreviations and terminology we actually use in the MKW community. I really liked this video and appreciate the fact that you try to introduce new players and casuals to the MKW scence👍
There is an MKW Dictionary which is very helpful that defines all the MKW terms and abbreviations. (I can't link in the comments). BTW, this drift at 8:14 is often called Reo Drift, named after Reo who popularized it (I could be wrong with this).

I've been trying to make one myself recently, and all the tutorials out there are very low quality and hard to follow. I feel like if you made a tutorial, with your high production value you could make a much better one - also it would fit into your channel as you have already made videos on making custom textures etc. Also, with the mario kart wii community thriving at the moment, if there was a good, well edited and easy to follow video on how to make a custom track I'm sure it would inspire more people to become ct creators!

Would it make sense for some terms to be shortened in different ways based on if they are typed of if they are spoken? For example, DSDS is quicker typed, but Delfino is shorter when spoken. Similarly, MMM for typing, but Moo Moo is quicker spoken, and lastly DDR, or Dry Dry when spoken.
Now imagine learning this stuff in English while being mexican. There is not a jargon for MKWii in Spanish, so it’s easier to only translate the English jargon
You start a drift in one direction, then release it and immediately start a drift in the other direction. You should be able to get a slipdrift when switching directions which is what causes the drift to look like that.

It comes from the war format, people needed a way to shorten, well, everything. Since the game moves so fast and each team has 5 people, each callout had to be quick, simple, and precise. These terms eventually trickled down into the casual scene as well, and now became ubiquitous
Having unique names for retro tracks a pose to just spalling ‘r’ in front of it? In MKDS we have rLC1 and rLC2 as track names. Yep... it sucks (first of all why are there 2 Luigi circuit, second they are GCN then GBA LC)
watched a 7 minute video and still haven't found out the one thing I wanted, "RTs" also, in your explanation 4 the jargon, you say words like "trap" and especially when you say "blocking and unblocking is a big thing on bowser's castle"... huh? im confused
@@tzarg rts is regular tracks, cts is custom tracks, sorry this video is a lil old, trap and block are p much the same thing, on bowsers castle there is a shortcut that is blockable with a banana or fake item box
@@musicbymason fast callouts as in changing 4 syllable tracks to 3 syllable tracks? Nah that's dumb. Items make sense, that's heat of the moment. If for some reason 1 teammate has no mic and is typing, all abbreviations make sense. Otherwise it's often slower and requires more processing time than saying the unique part of track names, such as: Highway Rainbow Summit Delfino Gorge Treeway Parkway Garden Goldmine Mall Of course, there's not really situations in which you need to frantically save a quarter second in track names.

I’d point out quickly that at least the TAS community knows what you call “ski drifting” as “reo drifting,” after the now mostly inactive TASer Reo.

8:30 I started calling this a switch drift since you switch directions when doing it. Never knew it had an official name either.
I've always known it as a "Reo drift" (pfmp721/Reo was the first person I've seen using it effectively/explaining how it works)
