My biggest pet peeve is the classism of some collectors. The ones who go "well if you like xyz doll, and want her to be successful/get more stuff you have to buy early" or "if you dont buy xyz doll you cant have an opinion" I saw this a bit last year about Lila being released early and, I was annoyed that Kavi was kind of pushed over when her year wasnt up yet, but since I didn't own her yet at the time I guess my opinion was meaningless.

So true! The vote with your dollar thing is unrealistic for most of us and it encourages over consumption - no one should feel guilted into purchasing something they don't absolutely adore.

Thank you for sharing - I clapped and laughed simultaneously at that first on. For real! Also, I counted and I believe 5 of your 13 points concerned race and I think a lot of these go much deeper than "pet peeves". For example, I heard more pain than annoyance in your voice when you talked about people's criticism of Evette. Same with your point about racism in the AG community seeming to get more of a pass than homophobia, transphobia, or other forms of bigotry. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing your thoughts about race-related issues in the community. Also, as a fellow content creator, your point about viewers' sometimes insensitive criticisms earned a hearty "YES!" from me. I just got a comment where the viewer told me, "This story is way too long about nothingness..." Like, what? Did you really need to say that? You know you could just...not watch it and spend your time being nice to someone, right?

also, I had to come back to add - THANK YOU for making a point to not include unconsenting shoppers in your store tour videos. When our local store was open, I also did this. We were lucky to be able to go on random weekdays during off hours and that helped, but yeah...making sure unsuspecting ppl don't randomly end up on the internet against their wishes was a priority and I appreciate you showing shoppers that consideration.

My biggest pet peeve is assuming that because someone doesn’t have a doll, it’s because they don’t want it, some of us are broke, other than 1 of my childhood dolls (Götz Julia I saved up birthday/Christmas money for in middle school) all my dolls are either gifted or $40 and under, I’m looking for an Asian doll (probably Jess mold, but 4 or Corinne mold is good too) to fill that gap in my collection but haven’t seen one cheap enough on Mercari yet

i agree sm with all these points. the racism, classism, and queerphobia in this community is insane sometimes. also one time someone tried to call me anti semitic for supporting 🍉 and i didn't have the energy to educate them so i just blocked them lmao

Yes Queen! All of these needed to be addressed in the community! Keep speaking your truth as a member of the community who identifies in the BIPOC. I love your content and it’s truly inspiring each day!

Some people are so easily offended and then make community posts about their perceived "disrespect" - and others immediately jump on the comments to virtue signal. It gets to the point where you hesitate to voice an opinion of your own, if you disagree.

Brilliant! Just have to say…about EVETTE LOVE. I am a Caucasian who has hair just like her. I’ve been told by hair stylists that my hair is most similar to an African American’s texture. Really happy for her representation, but I was just so happy to see a doll (exactly the way she exists) after all my childhood yrs that honestly most represented me for the first time in my life.❤😊.

I love her curly hair as well! I was so sad as a kid that all the dolls hair looks likes it was curled with a curling iron and was just so uniformed and there wasn't any naturaly curly with diffrent paterns and whatnot that makes curly hair so pretty. I love all the diffrent curls in my hair and would love to have a doll with hair like that.

      @Kari-G 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@katiewillsey530 Exactly. Curls were never right, but not even just the curls for me. Doll hair was always mindblowingly soft and as a kid, I would fiddle with AG hair or Barbie hair over and again only because I never had that smoothness and wished I did. Evette is what got me back into AG collecting. Hope you get to own her at some point. 😊

Good thing I'm not a big ag doll collector. I only have one ag doll I've stuck with my whole life and that's Molly. She's stood by me to through thick and thin. My parents bought her for me since I was five and I've cherished her ever since. Because I'm not a people person and I didn't really care for having friends and all that nonsense because people always disappoint but Molly didn't. Now I know what you're bout to say (oh she's just a doll blah blah blah). And yes that may be true but to me she's more then that. I think of her as my mini daughter mostly due to the fact I've had her for so long.

The only pet peeve I have is when someone finds a great deal on a doll or accessory and I didn't (lol). I noticed the two dolls standing on the gray thingy in the back ground, I know one is Yvette (I am so glad I got her, peeved I didn't get Maritza) I like what she is wearing and the red head with glasses...so cute. Can you introduce them to us if you haven't already. Thanks

I really liked Evette. So I made her a Hermione to go with my Harry Potter. And I liked her story so much I got another Evette to be herself.

MY American Girl Doll Collectors' Pet Peeves: Elitism, Classism, and Laziness
    1. *Elitism*: When collectors exhibit an air of superiority due to their extensive financial resources, spending over $10,000 or $50,000 annually on American Girl dolls.
    2. *Classism*: The perpetuation of classist attitudes and behaviors among collectors, creating an exclusive and unwelcoming environment.
    3. *Laziness*: Posting photos of dolls with intentionally messy hair or conditions, without context or effort to maintain their appearance, giving the impression of neglect or apathy.
Additionally, the following pet peeves have been observed:
    4. *Neglect of Doll Care*: Failing to properly maintain and clean dolls, leading to damage or deterioration.
    5. *Overemphasis on Material Value*: Prioritizing monetary worth over historical significance, educational value, or sentimental worth.
    6. *Exclusivity*: Creating a sense of exclusivity, making newcomers or less experienced collectors feel unwelcome or inferior.
    7. *Disrespectful Behavior*: Engaging in rude or condescending behavior towards others, belittling their collections or opinions.
    8. *Inauthenticity*: Presenting oneself as an expert or experienced collector without sufficient knowledge or experience.
    9. *Over-Commercialization*: Prioritizing profit over passion, turning the hobby into a business, and losing sight of the joy and community aspects of collecting.
    10. *Disregard for History*: Neglecting the historical context and significance of American Girl dolls, reducing them to mere commodities.

Also, the names for dolls of other backgrounds is why my 67 is nameless a week after I got her and it took me a week or so to name 42 (Eliana), I don’t want to name a doll after a student (which ruled out a lot of names for 42) and don’t want to pick a name that doesn’t fit

As a mixed person myself, Evette looks like the minority of mixed people I met. I get why people felt like AG white washed her, but yes there’s people who do look like her

This is my intro to finding out about the AGIG comunity and im not sure if i should go into it i only knew about the offical AG account and the subreddit.
Anayways a pet peeve I have is people going after the official AG instagram account in the comments for not making a post that they wanted to see. Expically when it comes to wanting to see a borthday post for a dolls birthday who isnt even sold anymore. Some of thoes comment sections are brutal.
Also where did you get that shelf for the dolls. Im looking into some display options right not and Im trying to find an option that works for me and inwas thinking about doing a book shelf.

AGIG overall is a great place to connect with other collectors. It’s just important to know that like any other collector community there are going to be issues/challenges at times. The shelf is the ikea Billy bookcase!

My ULTIMATE TH-cam pet peeve (whether the video pertains to doll collecting or blind boxes/anime figures/etc.) is when the content creator feels the need to disclose how much their "HUGE HAUL" costs. For those of us who frequently watch such videos, we generally have a good idea of what certain brands are valued at, so if a collector feels the need to plaster a (hefty) price tag on the thumbnail of their latest acquisition - for me - this signals less of a desire to share with the world what brings them pure happiness and more so a need to flaunt their bank account. I LOVE seeing what other people are interested in and what fills their lives with joy. But is it necessary to disclose what you spend on a daily/weekly/monthly basis? NO. So please, please, PLEASE keep that to yourselves and let the videos speak for themselves.
