Belfast is a great town, and the public transport is good. My wife and I had our first experience with the Glider recently, it snuck up behind us and opened the doors, we had no idea how or where to pay, then the doors closed and it was gone as smoothly as it arrived! We ended up walking the 45 minutes to our hotel! We are from New York so we know how to use Metro cards, but for whatever reason this one stumped us, but you make it sound so easy. Thanks for the tips mate
Hi Eat3am! What a very welcome post. The payment method is a bit confusing if you aren't used to it. If you are ever stuck like this in Belfast, don't be afraid to ask someone waiting near a stop. They will be happy to help you. Most people here love chatting to American folk because many here have cousins etc living in America. There is a very strong connection between Norther Ireland and indeed Ulster and the early founders of the United States. Oh dear that was a bit of a walk! Check out my wee video How Ulster Men Helped Make America Ulster Scots Agency Belfast th-cam.com/video/5CWkxji61hg/w-d-xo.html Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh Hills of Northern Ireland. PS I have 5000+ videos on TH-cam about Belfast and beyond. I will probably have covered most places you visited! lol
You don't need a metro card. You can choose the ticket on the machine and pay how you like, ticket comes out. You can also purchase a ticket on the app which is cheaper
Brilliant Amanda. I'm hitting 70 at the end of the month! Us mature ones, need to stick together! lol Many thanks for getting in touch. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.
Hi Jackie. The Glider is good but at present it will only take you along designated routes. Maybe try out the red bus, Belfast City Bus Tours, near the City Hall. If you are travelling about all over the city this is the best way to go. Hop on hop off. It does sound expensive but overall it is good and you get a wee tour guide. It saves a lot of hassle. Check my top 10 out! Hope you have a grand time! Positive Belfast TH-camr Top Ten Belfast Visitor Attractions th-cam.com/video/8jkpysQkeSQ/w-d-xo.html Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.
Very informative Tom. It seems good for stops off the main route. E.g.. Ulster Hospital or Stormont. But not the estates. It'll be good when they extend the service to North and South Belfast. I'll maybe give it a go. Covid permitting. Cheers. It's not good biking weather. Roll on summer.
It's rubbish biking weather but i was about on the bike on thursday past. we now have a raste of snow so the bike will be staying in the garage! Yes the estates are left out so far. the big problem is that the Glider is not good on sharp bends. I'm not sure how they will encorporate North and West Belfast because a lot of the roads are not wide enough for a bus lane. Best wishes T Mac from the snowy Castlereagh Hills Belfast.
There really is so much to see as long as the restrictions or shutdown downs are not still here. When this happens everything dies. At the minute the Titanic Exhibition is shut 2 days a week during the week but this is not mentioned on their website. I hope that this doesn't happen but you just never know what the 'caring government' have planned for us. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.
Travelling is such a gamble in Europe. Governments across Europe and in UK are likely to close things everything down at the drop of a hat and blame the virus or some new variant. I wouldn't travel in days like this. Tourism here is wrecked. Beware. I wish you well.
Hey Paul it has changed big time in the city centre. The place is full of tourists now. Cruise ships calling every day. New hotels everywhere. Restaurants everywhere.
Hi Ilass. The best way to find out all this is by visiting Translink sites. So looking at these maps the answer is yes. Not sure where the stops are though. @@TomMcClean it's all good, no harm done. Just thought I'd add it as extra information. I use the Glider regularly. I think it's great that you're doing this. Waves 👋 from Belfast Dunmurry 😊

@TomMcClean there's a lovely forest park around the corner from me. Called Glenn Forest Park. It has wee characters in it that kids love. There's also a kind of community centre (I think) there are tables outside, I've never been inside. I know they have activities there like ziplining. I keep meaning to check it out myself. It's lovely just for a walk
The bus only goes so far, then you have to get of and get on another bus to take you to ballybeen, because the bus is too big to get around the bends in the estate.what a mess!and a waste of money!keep the lane and the normal bus so it is able to get around and be more useful to people.they realized this and it was too late , because they had already bought the stupid buses.so they persisted with forcing the buses out because it was too late to send them back,I watched one get stuck on the north road!so they now just stay to the main route's.not much help if you live in ballybeen!no need waste of money and all those stupid ticket machines, pay on the bus as normal, keep it simple,it works so no need to change it!some money spent on those machines and bus shelters, for what?..end of my rant mate lol.
Hey thanks for the excellent rant Andy. lol Hey it is good to hear the ordinary man in the street's views. You don't often get this being highlighted. I'd like to see them work because of all the money spent but if they are very limited in what they can do or if things can't be changed to make things better then they may well bite the dust some time in the future. You should hear my son about them. We were sitting having our tea and he near went bananas abour them. He is more Victor Meldrew than even me! He would drive the whole lot to the scrapyard! lol
