When I went to Berlin with my grandpa last year, I believe we took the same tour you did! It was really great as you got to see all the graffiti and hear loads of background information, like this one artist who just rides around on his bike and paints sixes everywhere around the city. We also saw the treehouse, really cool how the government just allowed him to stay there.
    Great video as always :)

I'm 17 and this summer I went for my first travel without parent, and it was to Berlin! It was a charming city, I really liked the Kreuzberg area and you could tell it was a nice place to be a student in. Loads of vegetarian restaurants and night life and just a really kind of hip place.

I've been to Berlin once for a school trip, I loved it so much - I remember coming home and thinking I wanted to live there! I went to the TV Tower which was amazing and also the Reichstag which was pretty swanky. I had a photo taken in front of part of the wall you showed and now I reaaaaaally want to go back :(

I got to stay in Berlin for a few days in my junior year of high school. Wonderful experience! My favorite part would have to be the wall. All the amazing art that stands as a sort of monument to freedom and overcoming boundaries. It left me speechless. I can't wait to go again :D

Berlin is amazing. I love it there. I went when I was 18 as well and really wished I could have stayed their longer. My favourite part of it is the overall atmosphere. It's very much creative and open and a great city to be in. I'll be moving out of country next year (I am Canadian) and I was debating between Berlin, Germany and Wellington, New Zealand, I have chosen the later due to a friend I have who is back home and living in Wellington.
If you want to visit another great European city do Prague (Praha), Czech Republic. The square is brilliant and I highly recommend doing a nighttime ghost walking tour. It's a great way to learn about the folklore of downtown Prague. Also Dresden, Germany, it has stunning architecture, simply a beautiful place to spend some time in. Reminds me of a fairytale land. Happy travels Hannah xx

Looks like an amazing time :) I went to Berlin in February, but with school so it was very history focused. I got to practice my German though which was great. Also Nuremberg is a beautiful city. It's in Bavaria, about 3 hours from Munich. I live in England, but I have been there 3 times in 3 years, (for an exchange, for work experience, and with choir) and it has to be my favourite city in the entire world. I'd definitely like to plan another trip there, hopefully around Christmas because I've only ever been there in the summer.

+Livvy P Nuremberg is amazing! I got to go there my second time through Germany with my dad. Definitely would recommend it to ANYONE going to Germany after Munich and Berlin. I've heard Christmas-time there is beautiful

I went to Berlin in May to visit relatives. I've been twice before in 2010 and 2012 on school trips where we were ferried to near enough every tourist attraction under the sun, so in May I took it easy by going to loads of museums, cafés, art markets and just spent time in areas of Berlin that I would've otherwise never seen!
In terms of other European cities, I spent my Year Abroad in Munich last academic year, which was brillant. Also as beer is part of your aesthetic, you should definitely get yourself there if you haven't already, as the beer is excellent and taken very seriously in terms of brewing laws etc :P

  • @ColinTonge
    @ColinTonge 9 ปีที่แล้ว

I was in Berlin on a uni trip two years ago. Our first day consisted of that tour followed by a pub crawl. The pub crawl was a disaster though, the first bar (one filled with origami dragons hanging from the ceiling) couldn't cope with so many students (34) at once and so our guide ended up going to an off licence to get us drink... I left when that started happening! :L
Highlight of my trip was Fassbender and Rausch though, it's a chocolate shop that does AMAZING hot chocolate, I've made all my friends who visited since go there and they all loved it too! :P

I've been to Berlin, but it was as part of a choir trip in high school, so our activities were fairly limited (I was also 14). I really enjoyed it, though, and I'd love to go back sometime. As far as cities in Europe you should visit, KRAKOW. I spent a couple days there on the same trip, and it's one of my absolute favorite places in the world.

I'm from Berlin^^ It's fun to see how tourists explore the city, I feel like the people that move to Berlin or visit because of the club culture get to know all these 'hidden' places, whereas I struggle to come up with anything secret and cool xD My only tip would be to get out of Friedrichshain, Neukölln, Prenzlauer Berg and Kreuzberg for once and explore other areas. Did you know that Berlin has a district called Westend named after the London West End ? :)

(No, like, condescending tone or anything) you don't have a passport? Is that a normal thing for most Americans? I'm Irish and lots of my friends and literally everyone I know has one. I'm just curious, like you said, about places outside my content.

+Niamh C lots of my friends have one, but in general, the States is wayyy bigger than most European countries. I live in Texas, where you can drive 12 hours from one side to the other side. But I want to go to Europe when I can afford it hah

Been to Berlin once, 2 years ago. And even though I'm not too fond of Germany in general(personal opinions, sorry), I really loved Berlin! I absolutely loved the Jewish Memorial(the big square blocks). Mostly because when I stood in the middle it made me think of everything, and how not enough people really know what has been going on the past 80 years in Europe.
When I was there I also visited the Jewish Museum, and there was this one bit where you could walk on these steel 'faces'. You were actually allowed to walk over it, but it just creeped me out because when you set your foot down, it made a noise. And it felt like some kind of scream? I don't really know how to explain it, but I still get chills whenever I think of it. I did put one foot on it, felt horrible about it and stood on the side for the rest of the time.
If you want to visit another place, come to the Netherlands, it's not just Amsterdam here ;) Haarlem and Leiden are really pretty(just 10 mins by train from Amsterdam). Other nice places are Utrecht and Groningen, but if you think about it, it's pretty everywhere.
If you decide to visit, you should come around the time 'Sinterklaas' arrives, it's the Dutch Santa basically. Or, what's even better, arrive April 27th early in the morning in Amsterdam, go party because it's Kingsday(remember to bring something orange) and stay until May 6th. May 4th is remembrance day in the Netherlands, and May 5th is our liberation day which you should spend in Wageningen. They signed the document of freedom there which means the biggest celebration is here.
Wow. Sorry for the massive comment, the sucky grammar faults(I can imagine there are some, but I'm trying my best here!) and if you decide to visit and party on May 5th, let me know! I'll show you around if you want.

When I was in Berlin the other week, my cousins and I nearly had to pay a 60 euro fine because our travelcards were out of date (my 11 minutes!!). So after leaving the centre of Berlin at 3 am we got back to my cousins house at 5. It was an interesting night, the police were nearly called and the hangover the next day was interesting to say the least. The next time you're in Berlin though you should definitely check out the topography of terror, very interesting but quite harrowing. I won't advise going with little sleep!

If you ever go to Sweden, Örebro is a great place to visit during summer (why would you go to sweden in the winter, that's a horrible idea) because of OpenArt. You can find artwork everywhere in the city, like this year we had gigantic popcorn in the middle of the street, and last year we had a gigantic rubber duck made of car wheels.
