when I was in year eight I broke up with my boyfriend the day before valentines day so I didn't have to get him a present... and i've never had a valentine since, karma?
meowitslucy you can't be faulted; if something is impressive then it's impressive! Though props for throwing lexicon out there; it's not a typical word in a youtube commenter's vernacular
I like it because you can just choose to show appreciation to the people you love, it doesn't have to be romantically. And the chocolate specials. Those are amazing.
Have enjoyed your videos for a while now, and really respect you, but I do want to ask - why didn't you call this the 'best friend tag' or something like that, as opposed to the 'girlfriend tag'? I'm sure you can understand that, from my perspective as a gay person, it can be quite demeaning seeing straight people pretend to be gay for a video, even though I know it's all tongue-in-cheek. Actual LGBT people get so much crap for simply being who they are, and it just undermines our struggles a bit, if that makes sense. It just makes me sad that my sexuality is used as a sort of ironic joke in this context, and I'm certain you didn't intend for this to be offensive, but I did want to mention it. Would be really interested to hear what you think! xx
***** Kaelyn and Lucy in Finland Valentine's day is called ystävänpäivä, "the day of a friend" or "the friend day". So now this fits perfectly for the theme and all :)
I'm genuinely curious why you feel that way. I would assume that videos like this could actually be considered a positive thing. I understand what you're saying, but here's my initial perspective: It's not uncommon for two people (collaborating, or even just among friends) to make innuendos; that happens all the time and is just a joke (and, in the case of videos, fun to watch). Sexual orientation of those people, imho, doesn't matter in that case. The intention there is to provide some comic relief. Lucy commenting on Hannah's boobs isn't a sexual advance (as far as we know), it's just a fun thing to say in that context. Looking at it that way, I would argue that people doing this to each other regardless of sexual orientation is a good thing, in that it normalizes the topic. Making the topic of homosexuality (or bi, trans, etc.) taboo for anyone except members of that group seems counter-productive, and feels like a step backwards to me. I understand a lot of LGBT people have to go through a lot of shit and suffering, but if I can't joke about it (in an appropriate, non-condescending matter of course), that just makes the topic all the more loaded again. As a quick example, when I joke to my same-gendered straight friend about how I love his long, savory sausage (rookworst really is delicious btw, look it up!), I don't mean that to be condescending or ironic to anyone - it's just meant as a joke. I obviously don't mean any of this to say that what you're saying is invalid, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on this!
LovefromPsycho Hey, thanks for offering your insights! I get what you're saying, but I feel like there is a big difference between these, let's call them "faux relationships", or friendships with sexually tinted banter or innuendoes, and actual romantic relationships. I see it sort of the same as two friends saying "love you, bye" at the end of a call, which can be used in a non-romantic way. As for the perception of others, I can't really judge on that. I'm straight myself and live in a country that's generally very tolerant of LGBT people. I definitely understand public perception has a long way to go though. That said however, I still can't help but feel that normalizing these sort of things would be helpful rather than harmful, especially in the long run. Then again, I could also see how seeing mostly non-romantic girl relations like that could create a feeling of illegitimacy toward real ones... Gaah, I'm feeling really conflicted right now! =P On one hand I'm not entirely swayed from my original position, but I do recognize the negative side of it now... Thanks for your reply! I'll be mauling this over a bit!
I love you Hannah (and instantly like Lucy - will check out more of her videos after this) but I really don't like when girl friends do girlfriend videos (don't like the term "girlfriends" as a label for friends in general as it makes it harder for non-straight people), especially if you don't even acknowledge that you're not actually dating in the video (you said you're heterosexual in your Identity video a year ago + say Lucy's your 'friend' in the description so I assume you're not). It seems insensitive to girls in romantic relationships and like it's a joke, joking about how sexy the first date was etc. I know it's just a bit of fun but I feel like this happens so much it kind of wears me down and I thought with your sex positive/sexual identity etc. videos and stuff like that, you'd be more sensitive to this, but I'm not saying you're wrong and I'm right (I know gay people do videos like this too when they're not dating), I would like to have a discussion about this, it just kind of gets my hopes up when I see a title like that and then when it's not it's like "oh yeah, my sexuality is a punchline again". Really respect you though for most of the videos you make and this isn't a bad video, just part of a trend or whatever that I feel kind of uncomfortable with. Would love to know your/anyone else's thoughts :) x
***** Thank you so much, really appreciate your reply :) +Yeah adding a gap is better than " " I think. I'm so glad you're as lovely as I hoped you'd be - even more so - and stuff like this is definitely a process (a word I associate with Connor Manning whose videos I found with yours only a year ago but you're both so inspirational to me it feels like I've 'known' you for a huge part of my life!?), I've done the whole "pretending your friend is your wife on Facebook" thing and said/thought plenty of sexist things unthinkingly before (like how you thought Lucy was a 'bitch'! - loved that story) so I really respect that you can recognise this and think from more perspectives in the future and it makes you even more relatable and inspiring :)
Oh you like First Aid Kit? I saw them in Gothenburg about 5 years ago and talked to them for a bit after the show. Lovely girls and super talented musicians!
I'll probably be hiding from my family in my room with a good book for company and fangirling about the first episode of Dr Blake Mysteries season 3 THAT IS ON TOMORROW NIGHT OH MY GOSH!!!
the part of Valentines Day that I don't like is that some people in relationships feel pressured to confess their love for their partner before they're actually ready to, which can devalue to meaning of "I love you." I also think the idea of giving flowers to people is ridiculous but that isn't exclusive to any specific holiday. I am all for couples celebrating their love though because that's adorable.
I feel exactly the same way, especially about the flowers, I mean they look nice but who wants slowly dieing plant genitalia? answer: not many if you phrase it like that
OH MY GOD I thought I was the only one!! I know each bouquet is supposed to have a romantic message attached, but all they say to me is, "These will die in a week, just like my feelings for you."
I think it's a made-up holiday designed to sell flowers, cards, and chocolate between Christmas and Easter. Personally, I don't need greeting card companies to tell me when I should be romantic (or how to be romantic).
hi Hannah! I wanted to say that I just found your channel and love the apparently infinite amount of amazing, smart things you have to say regarding sexuality and sex and whatnot. I also love the rest of your lighter, sillier videos. Subscribed!
I keep forgetting that valentines' is comming. I honestly do not care about the upcoming holiday because over the years of being single I learned that I couldn't be more happier seul. The reason: I'm 19 I live in a post-soviet country and while all my mates were dating and falling in love I was figuring my crap out (I knew I was gay, I just tried to find a way to be gay and attracted to women). I met someone last month online but we decided it won't work because we are not meant to be together. So now I am living my life as a normal person except I never use an umbrella because I am waiting for my definition of perfection to fall into y life
I'm going out for lunch with my parents on Valentine's Day. I mean, my boyfriend is coming with us, but yeah the main event is hanging out with my parents haha
I get to spend 1pm-11pm with 1.5 hrs for dinner, doing props for a musical at my university. Sucks for anyone in the cast/crew with a significant other! That's prime canoodling time!
My boyfriend and I are going to have pancakes for breakfast/brunch, then we're going clay pigeon shooting, then for all the food, either an american style BBQ meat place, or an all you can eat, variety of food place. Then home to cuddle and watch movies and/or Pretty Little Liars. Then, a week after we're doing real life escape the room because it was fully booked on v-day :)
Okay i am confused :P Hannah i saw you in a video from Bria and Chrissy and then i saw this video on your channel... So the name of this video is Girlfrind Tag, but you talked in the "how we met" video about your friendship... so are you both together or just friends? :D My english isn't perfect, so maybe i didn't heard something about that :)
I love baking cute desserts with my friends and having a reason to wear all pink and red for a day. But dating on Valentine's Day is a nightmare and I refuse to do it.
I'm happily married but I don't really love Valentine's Day.... If you have to buy me chocolate then OF COURSE I'll eat it (to be polite 😉) But I'm just as happy acting like its any other day.... We can celebrate us on our anniversary ya know?
I'm working a minimum wage job selling crap food at an amusement park while couples with giant stuffed animals hold everyone up in line for Valentine's Day!!! :)))))
Wait...Hannah likes Belle & Sebastian? Does that mean she's possibly watched God Help The Girl? (I think they're the people behind the film...possible excitement)
I think Lucy is rather more attractive than Hannah. Love her hair and I'm sure her channel will be great. I know I've committed on the looks but y'all shouldn't beat or rather say one girl should be uglier. Beauty isn't entirely a outer feature of a woman. There are completely more things than looks... So yeah.
I thunk Valentine's day is bullshit, you should tell someone you love them every day. That and the fact that I got my heart broken by this guy I was crushing on... YAY
thinking of sex and valentines day etc, i thought of this. So i'm in highschool, and i'm a girl yadda yadda yadda. but the thing that pisses me off is that we only take gym/health once (meaning one semester) in high school. and the girls didn't get sex ed. on mondays they split up the girls and the guys, and the guys got sex ed, and the girls just did some other thing. One class we actually did get sex ed, but the only thing they talked about was that we should't have sex, or that we should stay abstinent...... and that's all we got.
I couldn't care less about Valentine's Day lol (Can you tell I'm not doing anything for it?) usually the people against it aren't doing anything for it lol
I THINK VALENTINES DAY IS A LOAD OF (EXPENSIVE) BULLSHIT! Also the time of yet when flowers, jewellery and chocolate is most expensive because we are a bunch of ever so predictive sheep.

yay Carissa, I love your videos!! :3
I ended up breaking up with my first boyfriend ON valentines day ON his birthday. But I'm engaged now 6 or so years later
I seem drunk throughout this whole video when in fact I was massively hungover #funfact
meowitslucy Of my entire lexicon
meowitslucy You seem to like talking to yourself. :)
meowitslucy you can't be faulted; if something is impressive then it's impressive! Though props for throwing lexicon out there; it's not a typical word in a youtube commenter's vernacular

desupi Hannah is. I don't think Lucy is though, to my knowledge.

first aid kit and belle & sebastian - so good!
Oh you like First Aid Kit? I saw them in Gothenburg about 5 years ago and talked to them for a bit after the show. Lovely girls and super talented musicians!
That was a super cute 1st video frame, Hannah :D
Have a great Saturday, all you lovely people out there.
I'll probably be hiding from my family in my room with a good book for company and fangirling about the first episode of Dr Blake Mysteries season 3 THAT IS ON TOMORROW NIGHT OH MY GOSH!!!
Love the fact that you are a Belle and Sebastian fan. What your favorite album? Thanks for the videos also.
"well this has gone to shit, hasn't it!?" this made me laugh so much and I don't know why 😂😂
Hannah likes first aid kit!!!!! I love her even more bless
Lovely video as usual! I shall be spending my 19th Valentines in a row, single, and confused about love
Yeaahh! First Aid Kit are my new obsession too! :D

for valentines... i will be... watching youtube...
i need you guys to do more videos together!

I love Valentines Day! My boyfriend and I are going to a ski resort in the mountains for the weekend :)

Oh my god, I love it too!
valentine's day means literally nothing to me...
How I Met Your Lucy
Chocolate is the only positive thing I see in valentine's day. I think the rest is commercial bullshit :) I love this Hannah and Lucy magic btw x
I'm moving house on Valentine's Day 😞
I replayed the first 3 seconds about 20 times to work out what on earth was going on and where the fuck that noise was coming from xD
I think Lucy is rather more attractive than Hannah. Love her hair and I'm sure her channel will be great. On valentine's day I'm doing whatever I want, shut up mum
Eh, I don't think my Valentine's Day will be any different from the previous ones. Forever the advertent outcast...

new york is crap though
I owe my girlfriend a backrub... Eurgh-.-
Get drunk. Then get more drunk, and watch Korean movies while working on Logic Pro.
Hananh is meant only for men. Stop tickling her
Bitcon!
I THINK VALENTINES DAY IS A LOAD OF (EXPENSIVE) BULLSHIT! Also the time of yet when flowers, jewellery and chocolate is most expensive because we are a bunch of ever so predictive sheep.
***** I also wonder if the rate of house fires started by 'romantic' candle light increases? Fairylight's is where its at peoples!!
looking at her for a while, she sort of looks like Moaning Myrtle.
Corporate gimmick is all I am going to say on the matter.
It's total bullshit. I haven't celebrated it since I was 10
