okay I switched accounts just to write this but with the question "how to start dating when you're not yet out of the closet to your parents" - I dated my first girlfriend (I'm a bi girl) BEFORE I came out to my parents. Basically it gave me more motivation to come out to them, but then you can also have the mindset who says I need to come out to ANYONE and just start dating the said person and people can deal with it / ask you about it if they want. That's kind of like the mindset "if straight people don't have to come out why do I" (which personally I think is a really good mindset)

I went solo to my prom and it was so much fun!
My prom was great, no one went with their boyfriend / girlfriend, everyone went in friendship groups and it was just such a laugh. I think the whole pressure of going to prom with a date is ridiculous.
