I didn't beat him yet but I went back and started from the beginning again, I doubt I will beat him this time either but maybe rethinking my play style from the start will help this time.

If we check the difficulty of the previous Souls DLCs, even the first bosses are likely to have more HP and do more damage than MALENIA, or at least as much as her. Keep in mind, the EARLIEST bosses. If you can't beat Mohg you're definitely not gonna have fun in the DLC anyway.

It's not like the game just came out. There's a whole frikkin' wiki. And I can't even count how many walkthroughs online, both video and text. And there are more ways to get to Mohgwyn Palace than there are to get to most places in the game! (You can do Varre's questline and get there pretty much as soon as you enter Liurnia, OR you can wait for late game and come through a portal from the Consecrated Snowfield.)

If I can defeat Mohg, anyone in the world can. I’m a stay at home mom, first from software game I have ever played. I’m not that good, really I’m not. I don’t understand it, it has got to be just pure laziness.
I don't understand people who says this, clearly never played other fromsoft games. Look at Dark souls 1 to access the DLC you have get to Darkroot basin, go to the bottom defeat the hydra , hug the left wall of the lake till you see a the golden crystal gollum (which sometimes doesn't spawn so you exit and reload till it does). Then after you've killed it you talk to girl that was inside it, Then travel to the beginning of the Dukes archive where you'll see another gold crystal gollum, kill it and pick what it drops and finally travel back to Darkroot basin where you talked to the girl and step through the portal and congratulations you can play the DLC. Simples.
Maybe they prefer Old Hunters DLC of Bloodborne. After you win win Vicar Amelia you have access to most DLC weapons before you even fight Ludwig and few blood stone chunks which are the second most rare upgrade materials for the weapons

There's like 5 bosses left in a playthrough after Erdtree
the problem is they thought this is only a fromsoft thing and also their other argument is when fromsoft did this, their 'lambs' would excuse this and when other devs did this (hence they brought COD for some dumb reasons), everyone would complain when that's not the case AT ALL. Witcher 3 Blood and wine expansion (dlc) literally requires you to be at certain level and reach certain area to access the dlc and everyone loved it. The fact that they brought COD as a comparison shows you that they just wanna hate the game for NO REASON at all.

That leaves 13 remembrances. If you want to do all the things which are appropriate, you could also just do the entirety of Limgrave, Liurnia and Caelid.
Which removes only another 2 Remembrance Bosses.
The expansion is technically mid game, even if its difficulty is supposed to be for endgame.
That's the great thing about the access point being Mohgwyn Palace.

It's probably the only longstanding BAD piece of rep the games have, born from early players not being familiar with the formula and later wanting to toot their own horns way too much. The core of the gameplay is simple and while a lot of stuff can be complicated, there are countless simple, short and spoiler-free videos that tell you what mistakes to avoid. I know it can be a problem for people who get frustrated easily, but if you can power through the initial unfamiliarity with the way these games work, I promise you it'll pump you so full of adrenaline and dopamine you could pass out. It took me three shitting weeks to beat Father Gascoigne from Bloodborne (playing every day for hours on end during summer vacation, mind you) but when I actually managed it my lazy fat ass was so full of energy I went for a fucking jog. That was six or seven years ago and I've never looked back.

Anyone can beat Elden ring it’s the most accessible fromsoft game. Some of these people never played any game but some CoD or microtransaction online trash,where a DLC means 2 new weapon and a map. This is more of an expansion,than a DLC,but nowadays noone uses the term expansion anymore. Which is weird,because it feels like there is a distinction there,but we use it like its a same thing.
It took me having to watch challenge runs to even know he existed, and that was after I had 100 hours in the game, he’s incredibly hard to find, that’s not just “playing a game” that’s either having to play for multiple 100s of hours to complete a game or having to look for outside sources, that’s pretty annoying

That's actually not unusual for expansions. People tend to not finish games a lot. Elden Ring has a ridiculously high completion rate as is.
Reminds me of the 2 DLCs for Zelda Breath of the Wilds.
The 1st DLC, Trials of the Master Sword, required that you have the Master Sword, which requires 13 hearts minimum.
The 2nd DLC, Champion's Ballad, required you to unlock all 4 Divine Beasts and have the Master Sword before you can access it.
While both these things aren't technically as "challenging" as getting to Mohg and beating him, its still a requirement to access them. You can't access the DLCs from the menu, because they're an expansion to the open world...
and you can easily argue they're more "gatekeeping" because doing the divine beasts and getting enough hearts for the master sword can take longer than just skipping to mogh via varre's questline and picking up some borked OP setup to shred him.
Id argue mohg is easier if you decide to set up a build to cheese him. Zelda you cant just kamehameha everything.

The only reason I can think people would buy the DLC without actually playing the base game is that gaming has a horrible FOMO attitude for god damn everything now, and, well, hey! Shadow of the Erdtree is the big bad thing on the block, so, they absolutely must pay to own it, only to find out they aren't getting what they wanted it to be... and thus, complain afterward.
alternatively they might have some skewed view of DLCs being better than base content, which is the case in some cases (BGS games, witcher 3, cyberpunk, probably a lot of fromsoft dlcs idk don't play fromsoft stuff, etc.)

The dlc will have you exploring, overcoming challenges, and figuring things out for yourself.
People are somehow shocked that getting to the dlc will require you to explore, overcome challenges, and figure out how to get to mogh yourself.
Even then, Google and Spirit summons are there if those things are too much, no shame in using them.
There are golden dudes with 99 int and Comet Azur camping Mohg since may LMAO who will literally finish the fight for you in 10 seconds

Can From Soft fans go two minutes without fetishizing difficulty in a game that's not actually difficult and has literally introduced mechanics like spirit ashes... They are not even trying to make it hard. Otherwise multiplayer wouldn't exist. Summons wouldn't exist. Monsters would level scale. Just give up and make a difficulty select before you have to put more of these embarrassing mechanics people have to avoid to tune their difficulty in the next one.

Phase1-
Single overhead slam-dodge right don’t panic roll,
Clawflame attack-if close roll forward ,if away roll backwards,get ready to second roll as he will come with a thrust attack most times
Charged claw attack move /roll towards the charging hand then roll towards mohg when he swings
Blood rain-run away/behind
Blood splash-look at hand if open palm it will be a wide splash-roll forward;if closed palm he will splash towards you ,dodge either side
Spear attacks 3 combo-dodge right,will be followed by a delayed swipe-moved towards right then roll towards light when he begins his swipe,lastly roll forward towards mohg at last swipe
Spear attacks 5 move combo -just dodge on either side of sweep but prefer right
Phase2-same combos as above apart from addition of flying rain 3-4 combo
Combo1-flys,splashes rain-dodge forward then walk away from him he will either splash again which you should dodge left;he will then sweep attack from below dodge left then wait to see if he elevates his spear to thrust ,just roll forward ;if he keeps it lowered dodge away as he will do an explosion attack
Modification of a previous attack is now when he slams his spear in to the ground it will be followed by a blast-dodge as before but then dodge away/right but away from mohg

Basically any way to proc bleed violates him, long as you have his crystal tear he really is pretty easy compared to most fights at that point in the game

If these players can't beat Mogh, surely they haven't beaten Malenia or even finished the game for that matter. And Mogh may not be the easiest boss in the game, but he isn't the hardest.
If he wasn't Kamehameha cheeseable, he would be the third hardest boss in the game.

bleed does percentage damage to the target though, and mohg is weak to it, meaning his health chunks down quickly.
malenia is hardest, elden beast is second, maliketh is up there....... honestly, out of the remembrance bosses, i think mohg is middle of the pack, all things considered.

@@nickmoran8417 Thanks but i beaten him alone and took 3 tries to win him(he was more agressive than i thought but it wasn't so hard as Dragonlord Placidusax which had taken 10 tries from me to win him) . Now iam in area with invisible Black knife Assasins and i hope that i will find the way for the boss which broke many ER players controls . Anyway the reason why Co-op is so trash in Elden Ring is because none of the bosses designed to be difficult when they fight multiple targets in opposition with a game like Remnant 2 but even if its trash you can steel used it for winning the hard bosses of the game.

These games are designed to be tackled by yourself. And before you say "wut aBoUT NPC suMmOns" even with them and the 50% bonus HP the boss gets in Elden Ring by the way, the games are still easy since the bosses are designed to have well telegraphed attacks that you can react to and dodge within two seconds.
Adding a 2nd fighter just makes the boss freak out, lmao. The games aren't challenging with Co-op, never have been, never will be. Co-op in a Souls game is meant for fun and laughing with your mates, not to challenge yourself.

This isn't anything new. In Dark Souls 1, you had to kill a certain enemy in Anor Londo to trigger the cutscene in the cave in Darkroot Basin behind the Hydra. I've only played the Scholar of the First Sin edition for DS2 when it comes to the DLC's, but you can access them by falling to the chasm in Majula midway through the chasm. In Dark Souls 3, you access the first DLC by interacting with Gael in the Cathedral of the Deep, the second DLC is accessed right after the first one or if you want to access the second directly, it's right before the final boss of the base game. In Bloodborne you had to be grabbed by an Amygdala in a place that can be accessed later in the main game. People complaining about fighting an endgame boss has some merit a bit, just because ER is a way bigger game than the previous games, but it's something From Soft has always done.

You can fight mohg really early so I honestly think the complaints have no merit. My biggest fear was that the dlc would be locked behind endgame content and I’m so happy you can go to mohg really early to get the cool weapons to take into the base game.
Complaining about fighting an endgame boss has no merit because the content they’re complaining about being to hard to access will be as hard probably harder, so why worry about accessing it if you are to ass to play it anyway,they need to GIT GUD and atleast learn to play the base game before they worry about extra content.

"artorias of the abyss"? they just dumped two new enemies in the game and said nothing. the crowns of 2? hinted at, but buried at the end of labrynthine passages. "ashes of adiendel"? random npc somewhere in the world. ringed city? bonus bonfire at the end of the game, hidden in a corner.
like, from don't want to make this easy on us, and the fact they were generous enough to make accessing it simple has me worried about the level of danger we're walking into.
I always thought that there should have been something after Mohg. It makes a lot more sense now. Also im not sure why people are super mad at this. You can get to Mohg at lvl 5 if you really wanted to.

Was playing 2 days ago and accidentally stumbled upon a weird cliff path absolutely filled with exploding bleedy boys. Got curious, slowly worked my way up the cliff, killed a bunch of these bleedy boys and made my way to a fancy looking room. Boom, a Wild Mohg Appears. Called in my Mimic and doubled teamed him down within 3 minutes. I don't see why people are complaining so much when I accidentally stumbled upon the DLC entrance lol.
These are the same people that refuse to use spirit summons or online co op then complain its too hard. I've beaten Mohg with summons, solo and at level 1, he is by far one of the easier end game bosses and has two items that can make the fight more manageable.

As someone who beat Elden Ring as my first souls like. While I did enjoy it and felt it was a very memorable experience I realized it’s not my type of game. That being said not being my type of game and saying it should change is different things. I feel it should keep doing what it’s doing. There’s obviously a lot of people who enjoy it and there’s nothing wrong with that. Not everything should be for everybody.
Agreed. Not a hard game kind of guy, but I love how anti-Ubisoft/Ea/activision/ Fromsoft and Elden Ring are and the success it got.
Same argument other side of the isle. I love these games but I know they aren't for everyone so I usually just don't recommend it even to individuals who might enjoy it.

You can access Mogh without fighting any other major boss (In fact, without fighting any boss in general, thanks to ER being an Open World with lots of options to get to certain parts of the map), by doing an easy questline that lets you get teleported to the place where Mogh is. There is also no Rune Level requirement, which means that I can enter the DLC with my Rune Level 1 character if I want. And lets not forget that this game lets you oneshot literally anything with a lot of builds, lets you summon both in offline and online, and gives you items that make the game easier (In Mogh's case, you literally have an item designed to make him unable to move for some seconds when you use it, you can use it 2 times and makes the boss MUCH easier. There is literally no reason to cry about how hard he is)
You do need to fight one shardbearer to activate Varri's quest, and Mogh's shackle is in the Shunning Grounds of Leyendell. But yes, Mogh is cheesable with the right build, and 400000 runes is more than enough to set you up for the DLC.

Well, FromSoftware recommends a base level of 150 and you have to defeat Radahn and Mohg.
level 150 is basically beating the game.
I just finished a playthrough that I didn't touch for a while and I almost perfectly beaten the game and most major side content at level 151.
so whether you want to use varre to get access early to Mohg or not, the level requirement itself already implies that by the time you reach level 150 you most likely already found the portal in the snowfields.

It's 2009 and I just bought the Broken Steel DLC for Fallout 3 but I just learned I don't get to play it until I beat the game, what the hell man
FO 3 Expansions were the first thing I thought of. And Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, FO:NV, FO4, GTA 3, GTA:SA, GTA 4, the list goes on and on. EXPANSION DLC is almost always branching off from a midpoint, or the end, of the main game.
And this is still pretty normal today for big AAA games: Horizon Forbidden West requires you to beat the game before touching the DLC. Because its story only makes sense after the main villains are dead.
I wish the latter was easier to access though, because at that point of the game, you wouldn't really need its reward anymore because you'll have completed most of the shrines.
All the OG WoW expacs required you were max level or close to it. Now they give you free level boost so you can get started on the new expacs right away and everyone hated that. 😂😂 Can't please em all
Once you get to Mohgwyn palace, you've found two of the best grinding spots in the whole base game, and they are literally right next to each other. If Mohg is pounding your ass in seconds, just go farm for an hour and LEVEL VIGOR.

Bought Elden Ring and DLC on a weekend and played the shit out of it last week. Holy its good. Im 50 hours in and i feel like i havent even explored a third of the map.

I've beaten the main game 3 times now, Mohg included in all 3 of them. My biggest challenge will be...deciding which save file to use for trying the DLC for the first time. (None of them have crossed into New Game Plus yet, so I'm still good.)

Every From Software Soulsborne DLC required you to progress to a certain point first. Elden Ring is no exception.

The only way I would consider it gatekeeping in anyway is they expected you to beat EVERY boss. From the final boss, to every tomb and cave boss, to every hidden boss like Malenia and Placidusax, and even bosses you can miss like the Lichdragon (I just found out you can miss him if you don't do Fia's questline before burning the tree)
Why should you have to fight Mohg to access the land of Shadow? It’s not like you have to kill Godrick to access Liurnia, or kill Morgott to access MOTG, or Fire Giant to access Farem Azula, or Radahn to access Nokstella, or Malikith to access the final boss. Am I missing any?
You don't need to kill Godrick to access Liurnia.
You did miss having to kill Radahan to access Nokstella (and now the DLC) to reach Astel to get the most acquired ending in the game.
Part 2 of the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet dlc requires that you beat both the base game and part 1 of the dlc. Similarly, The Division 2 requires you to beat the whole thing (basically twice) before you can play the Warlords of New York dlc. I don't see how this is a problem yet the other 2 aren't.
Its just populair from software hate tbf. This was really normal in in the 90/2K years every rpg had it back then. Even these days mmo’s have it due to lvl requermend, i like this because it forces you to put effort into stuff.
If you can't defeat Mohg, you have no business going anywhere near the DLC. Its at least twice as hard as the original game
Wow a skill check before you can advance through a story. A story prolly more difficult then the main story. Why would we ever need a skill check for that! This is a really good system if you have harder and harder dlc. Believe it or not but this was really common in the 90/2K years and i welcome it back!

Gate keeping is a good thing btw. I'll never understand how protecting the thing you like from invaders that want to change it could ever be considered a bad thing. Because it isn't. Not every thing is for every person. If something's not for you it shouldn't change just because it's not for you. As the Dark Souls community says... Get good or go home.

Few games have communities that are filled with people who love to see a new player suffer- enjoy through their first play throughs like Souls.
Thing is like the first response was shown, there are then others who want to change the core identity to fit themselves out of a faux notion of acceptance and accessibility. When Souls already has all the tools you could possibly need to get into it, to the point of someone else playing it for you in the most extreme examples.
It's a pointless distinction because the only people gatekept are those who should be in Souls games.
You didn’t have to play witcher 3 to play the expansions. It let you start both expansions from the start menu. Basically it would make you a properly leveled Geralt. But your point holds. The part you are missing is they just want to be able to check out he expansions without playing so they can say something about it.

Also theres so many games that require some degree of completion to access DLC. Witcher 3 one of my most beloved videos games of all time requires you to get REALLY far in the story and lvl in order to get to "hearts of stone" and "blood & whine" DLC's

The funniest thing to me is that you can literally fulfill all of the requirements like 2 hours in if you want to.
Collect the medallions, go to Altus, go back to Redmane Castle, defeat Radahn (the NPCs can solo him), the levels are enough to easily beat Godrick. After that just do Varres quest, and kill Mohg with the enemy unload glitch. Id highly advise against it but its easily possible.

What makes this hilarious is that in the past games, you would have to beat multiple bosses, often more than two, just to get to the DLC area. There is essentially more gatekeeping in the past games than there is in Elden Ring for its DLC.
In Elden Ring, it is just Mr. Blood lord. I keep hearing people say Radahn too, but I'm certain it is just Mohg. It is meant to be fairly late game. You can absolutely get to Mohg fairly quickly. As a reminder:
Talk to Whitemask
Make your way to the lakes.
Do the invasion thing (can be done offline, but you do need to go to the ruins area in western altus plateu closest to volcano area)
Then use the item he gives you and you are now at Mohg's clubhouse.
It is worth keeping in mind that you can normally access that area by the time you get into the Consecrated Snowfield. So the difficulty for the DLC is essentially Haligtree plus.
You gotta beat Radahn for reasons I cannot say due to spoilers. But you do have to beat him.
I am glad I had to beat mogh and not Malenia for the dlc. not because of the difficult of the fight, but the difficulty of getting there. currently I can just spawn in, crush stormveil, dick around with ranni, teleport hop over to radahn and bully him, that finish varre's quest which just involves blasting though 3 invasion fingers and then murdering the girl at the entrance to the weeping peninsula.
ofc I usually prep a bit more for the actual mogh fight but getting a +10 somber weapon is pretty easy, as well as killing the piss ghost for the last talisman pouch.
Fallout nv and 4 dose same thing but I here no one complaying about those games
Actually, they don't. And, that's why New Vegas's DLC implementation kind of sucks honestly. I love New Vegas. I'd marry the game. But man, giving a bunch of mid-tier weapons for free along with high-level quests at the start of the game was stupid.
And, it was even worse in Morrowind, with the Dark Brotherhood trying to drag you into Tribunal at level 1. You either get creamed by them or defeat them and get high-level armor early on.
Perfect argument as to why Elden Ring, and other Fromsoft games, did it better.

I tried the dlc first time with NG+. Beat Mohg before General Radahn. Was more peeved that I had to fight Radahn only cause I forgot he existed. 😅
Tips for beating mohg quickly and easily
1: get a frost weapon like Zamor curved sword or helphens steeple and keep procing frost for massive damage, dont use bleed weapons cause he get a damage buff with every bleed proc and he is already dealing a ton of damage without it
2 : focus on posture break cause they will delay nihil phase
3 : get purifying crystal tear it will save you a lot

I’m sorry but that isn’t exactly the first time that gate keeping has been a thing in a fromsoft game:
Ds1: u had to beat smough and ornstein, get the silver pendant and defeat the multi tailed hydra
Ds2: had 3 dlc with separate keys that u needed to defeat multiple bosses to access
BB: you have to beat vicar Amelia before accessing the dlc
Ds3: the ashened ariendal dlc was accessible very early but you gonna get your butt handed to u if u access it at a very low level. The ringed city dlc was accessible through defeating the final boss of the first dlc, or just before the final boss of the main game.
To say that this is something new or hasn’t been done before is quite stupid
Mohg's doorway is full of summoning signs right now. It pretty much is a guaranteed get in now.
Fyi, in witcher you have the option to start at a higher level to play the dlc, but it makes sense in witcher because it takes allot of time to get to dlc appropriate levels

Here's a reminder that the Final Fantasy 16 dlcs couldn't be accessed until right before the final story quest. And yes, those were PEAK content for the game. Also, bc this comment is being posted 4 days after the dlc dropped and I've played through some of it, this new dlc is also really really damn good
Mogh's shackle, the tear that protects you from Nihil, spirit summons (mainly the black knife assassin because she can kill him before second phase starts), comet azur setup,ect.
Imagine being so bad at video games that you can't even beat Mohg..... Makes me glad I grew up playing the NES where literally every game was brutally difficult. They make Dark Souls games look easy.

Most people that have played elden ring and cried about it twitter, probably tried to fight Varre and locked themselves out of Mohgwyn's Palace until late-game.
I love ER and have played it through like 7 times now doing damn near every stat build, the fact they cant beat mohg when there’s a million guides for everything is a MASSIVE skill issue
Mohg is literally one of the most cheesable bosses (Comet Azur 1shots him and you literally have a glitch kill available, not to mention other more skillful methods), I can't believe that anyone would want to pay for a dlc when they can't even be bothered to cheese Mohg

I had to look up how to get access to the DLC. I am on NG+ and never invaded another player and it forced it to use the rest of the game mechanics before trying the DLC. I literally discovered another area (I looked nothing up before this). I have 296 hours in and realized I have no idea how big the original map was. This game is perfect. The devs are on another level. it took me like 20 times to beat Mohg. I hadn’t played through game in awhile. Beating Mohg is actually a cleaver way to prepare the player for the DLC.
I remember people having similar feelings for Dark Souls 1's DLC considering it needed a few steps to access as well.

The exploration in this game felt _so_ good! My only issue is that creating every single build that sounds good in my head and playing through the whole game with it would take a few thousand hours, which I don't have 😭
I didn’t even realize Mohg was such a filter. I found portal, entered strange land of blood, slapped Mohg up after a handful of tries and went on.
Come to think of it, majority of players were probably filtered out back at Margit & Godrick maybe? Shame because beating them felt like a rite of passage.

I make fun of Elden Ring's endgame a lot but even I wouldn't go after Mohg. He's one of the better bosses in the entire thing.

The Witcher 3 example is not great for your argument, you can literally choose to start the game with a massively leveled up Gerralt if you want when you install the dlc.
mogh has like the most special items to help you beat him, and he's the easiest demigod to get to as long as you go to him second (and can handle a couple moghwyn dynasty nobles). like just grab the dectus medallions, kill radahn, kill mogh, dlc. ta da
I made a new character for the DLC. I wasn't quite high enough level to beat Mohg so I had my level 200 friend come in and beat him for me. Got to the DLC. Saw how hard the bosses are. Went back to the main game to find more items and upgrade gear while leveling more. Now I'm having fun with the DLC and can actually beat some of the bosses. Loving the DLC. If they let you access it from the menu. So many people would start on it and get beaten so bad they would just give up. But since you have to beat Mohg you can play the DLC at the intended difficulty, and actually have fun with it. Also, some of the bosses I hear are harder than any of the bosses in the main game. Even one that is the hardest boss they have ever made. I'm excited to play more.
