- Elden Ring and Souls games in general are some I usually don't play. However, recently I've decided to pick up Elden Ring, in part because my friends wanted me to try it. So, I did the only logical thing and made a video about it. I was not prepared though, for what l had to face, were horrors.
If you want to see me play games live you can visit me over on Twitch, where I TRY to stream somewhat regularly, but I am not able to stick to the schedule at the moment.
Either way, I appreciate you watching and see you in the next one!

As soon as he said 60% keyboard, the title of the video was justified.
imagine meeting him a second time, would truly be a shame if something like that would happen
yeah...shame if it did huh
imagine meeting the one guy that doesnt immediately want you dead and who literally tells you what to do and killing him
Great video. Would recommend using a controller to play these games though.
10/10 agree
While I agree, I have to admit that I am a keyboard souls player. Definetly wouldn't recommand 60% keyboard though, that sounds like hell
could be worse
This is honestly an emotionally charged video, my ER journey started similarly to yours, and despite me being a DS2 player since 2014, it still managed to kick my ass effortlessly.. but that's what made it special, and why Margit is to this day my favourite boss - he takes you to school, pushes you to your limits and makes you use everything at your disposal while still offering a fair fight without relying on gimmick attacks and artificial difficulty. Actually wish the game sort of had a way of retrying his boss battle considering Margit is a projection, such a good practice
Also well done, the game threw an entire wall at you and you didn't give up until you broke it down - exploring, trying out new things and engaging with less used mechanics will be the way to go forward.
As for the controls.. phew might be late for me to say this considering muscle memory, but if you hold down E (based on default controls) and pressing LMB or RMB should make you wield your weapon in a two handed stance. Pressing shift and mouse scroll up/down should rotate your weapon selection. Holding down E activates your pouch (it takes over your weapon/spell area) and using the wheel scroll uses the top/bottom choices, that you can configure in the right side of the Esc screen. Slightly more complicated is to activate the left and right selection in the puch, but that can be done with holding down E, pressing shift and then using the wheel scroll.. took me several hours to get used to, but actually had to turn the game on to check specifically because its muscle memory at this point lmao, but it completely foregoes the directional keys or having to rely on specific binds that takes your hand off of the movement buttons to keep you in the fight
Banger comment. Appreciate the advice!
@@itsLuwuk also don't underestimate how good jumping is for evading certain attacks, learning this now will help a lot for the "dlc". Certain great and colossal weapons are also good for blocking when two handing
Bro genuinely a great video, keep up the good work :D
I enjoyed it thoroughly
Thanks man!
I loved this but yea, these games are designed for controller
they work fine on m&k, this guy just chose terrible controls for himself
@wizardthebizard2092 I'm not gonna deny that it works on m&k but again irregardless of that all the soulsborne games were designed with controller being the default input device
Killing Varre locks you out of a shortcut, but it doesn't lock you out of pretty much anything else.
Edit: Also great job on the video, I'll be following you from now on
Well that's fine then
I think it might still be correct to say it locks you out of a farming spot. By the time you're able to get there by progressing naturally, farming for runes isn't likely to be relevant unless you've been losing hundreds of thousands of runes to deaths, or making irrelevant weapons, or frutlessly buying out the inventory of every shop or something.
@@Buugipopuu the farming isn't necessary to begin with unless you want to jump into pvp right away
Why does everyone keep missing the tutorial hole?!
*looks into the ominous dark cave that has a literal ghost standing next to it*
It should be so obvious to wanna jump in there...
Some keybinds that helped me with keyboard and mouse elden ring, was rebinding Switch left hand weapon to the 1 key and switching the right hand weapon to the 2 key. I binded it this way because I usually swap weapons like this in apex by pressing 1 or 2 instead of scroll wheel since I binded my mouse wheel for movement like tap strafing or zipline superjumping.
For Elden ring, you could also rebind scroll wheel upwards for cycling through spells and scroll wheel downward for cycling through items. If you have Side mouse buttons though you can cycle through spells with mouse 5 and cycle items with mouse 4 instead (This is because if you hold down the button that cycles through your spells or items, it resets and goes back to the first object in that list.). As for jumping, I binded it to shift, and dodge/dash/backstep/run to space bar.
Hopefully some of these keybind suggestions you can use and personalize to your own liking, and as someone who's played lots of souls games I hope you enjoy Elden Ring!
how do you only have 130 subscribers this video was so hype
Glad you liked it!
Nice well made video, i will wait for more, +subs
Playing souls games with m/k is one of the hardest challenges
no dude, just need to change few things and it will feel like playing apex.
Yeah I am doing it pretty playable
When Elden Ring came out, I was not chronically online like I am now. I started as Samurai, followed the graces - ended up at Margit at around level 10. Thought the game design was bullshit and unfair. I uninstalled after 2 hours of trying.
2 years later, DLC hype and i started a new play through. This might be the greatest game I have ever played.
Literally me last week
Later on in your playthrough you will get to a hidden snowy area, somewhere there will be another way to get to the best farm area id give specifics but i dont want to spoil anything 🙏🏻
As a Souls vet starting from Dark Souls 1 it's always a delight to see how newcomers to the franchise react to ER.
This video is for me im so glad yt recommended this video i absolutely have no clue about souls but wanna jump in
Neither did I. I am still mostly clueless.
bind change L/ R Weapon, spells, flasks to 1-2-3-4 or something similar, it will be easier this way. also change or add second button to use ability into Q key, heavy attack to F key. atleast this is my binds, you should make your own binds for your own good when using mnk :D
Your brand of humour and editing is great already, especially for such a small channel. Great work, you've earned another sub. Remember me when you blow up🤗
PS: While people may suggest you to change to a controller, I'd say changing your keyboard should work just as well.
I'll put this comment on my wall
Hey, congratulations to you. You are going into the game with the correct mindset. Don't let dying demotivate you. It's normal.
Why did Max recommend him to go to Marget instead of exploring Limgrave and the weeping Peninsula first? It's like, what sounds like a more interesting and worth file experience of your five hours? Exploring lymgrave and the whipping peninsula for like four hours or 4 and a half hours and defeating Marget in like half an hour? Or just fighting one Enemy vor 5 hours, just doing the same thing over and over again for five hours.
Which sounds more interesting and more worthwhile of your time? Apparently for many the latter one.😅
Honestly, I'm impressed. You're playing this game for the first time (and first souls game) and you're already doing a challenge run. I'd rather do a lvl 1 run than play on keyboard xd.
Souls games are made with controllers in mind, so I recommend you should play with a controller, also there is another way to get to the area with Mohg in the consecrated snowfield instead of
Killing NPCs can always lock you out of content and even gameplay areas or weapons. in Várres case it locks you out of, as you already know, a pretty good Farm, but also early access for the DLC. And if you would have continued to listen to his dialogue, he would actually after insulting you help you and guide you.

I basically only use mouse and keyboard but...please use a controller for this game, save yourself 😂 not that I don't think you could do it, it's just not worth it. I think the Donkey Kong bongos are actually a better peripheral for Souls games than using your keyboard lol. Great game, though, I just started playing recently myself. Hope you've been enjoying it!
nice
i use keyboard and 60% ( 1-2-3-4 ) is items for me
There is always nice to see new players getting into souls games!
I have some feedback:
- Don't listen to people who tell you to play on controller. I never touched a controller outside of fighting games, and personally beat every PC FromSoftware game multiple times using MnK without any issue. The best controls are what's most suitable for you.
- If you kill Varre you're not locked out of the Mohgwyn Palace. He can give you a shortcut there for early game (if you do his questline) and an easy farm spot that you honestly don't need, I have many newbie friends who completed Elden Ring and never felt the need to farm runes. You can get to that location in the endgame and access the DLC.
- Just have fun and play at your own pace, use any tool that can make it a pleasant experience, you may see a lot of salty souls fans, but don't bother to argue with them.
I play rocket league on keyboard and mouse, but you’re a freak for kbm on a souls game lmao
Rocket League on mnk sounds like the real pain
I don't understand, why did you choose to ignore all the tips and tutorials as well as the suggestions left by npcs? I understand that you went into the game blind but you kind of chose ignore all the help that the game is trying to give you
For the most part because I simply can't remember
He did kind-of murder the first guy who tells you where to go.
controller is better than keyboard for these games, most if not all third person games is better off with one
perhaps, perhaps
Do yourself a favor and use a controller🤔
never
@@itsLuwuk quite a few games benefit from it, especially emulated ones and console ports
Its not even problem with your keyboard. It problem with ancient design created for consoles that never was changed or fixed to acomodate pc. It is something like:
Dev: Yo, we need to port this game to PC.
Miyazaki: So whats the problem?
Dev: I have no idea how to translate pads to keyboards.
Miyazaki: What is this keyboard?
Dev: What?
Miyazaki: What?
I have full keyboad and its very simple. You just change jump to space. And rest is easy. You have left hand on WSAD. You have right hand on mouse. And you use arrow keys with your penis. I died more times bc of UI than bc of enemy attacks. Its even worse(and i'm guesing it works like that on pads too). If i have two things in both hands and i wanna take one those in both hands then i have to press and hold E and if i wanna right hand thing i have to click left mouse button. If i wanna left thing i need to click right mouse button.
Also... its game that put heavy accent on horse. But you dont have a horse button. You summon him from consumables menu. The same that have life and mana potions. Every time when i wanna summon him i drink flask. Also when he dies you uses HP potion to revive him... but it not summoning a horse... its summoning pop out screen with question did you wanna do this. Usualy in MIDDLE OF FIGHT.
The further you get the more you will see stuff that are just confusing and pointless. For example any mage class. You have sorcereries and incantations. So one is magick from stick, second is magick from dumpling. Or somenthing small in your hand. If you using normal weapon in main hand then you probably get a stick or a "seal"(?) in left. But if you wanna use both types of magic bc stick magic is basicaly just bonking enemies with rock. And incantations have some fun utilities, then you have to had in one hand both stick and seal. And switching between them and on magic slots swtiching this magic type.
And it obviously goes even further bc bad design control scheme is not only thing that exist more to confuse than anything. All menus are bad. But most important Status screen. You wanna check what STATUS is on your hero? What buffs or debuffs? You know... that thing that is obvious in page called STATUS? Well... check on wiki bc there is no info on game about that.
I don't know how to respond to this...ah take a heart.
the problem isn't the design, it's the fact that mouse and keyboard never lent itself to third person games. a mouse and keyboard is more ancient than having two thumb sticks and ergonomics
Brainrotted fps zoomer kills npc, ignores every tutorial and then complains and feels "lost". A tale as old as time itself.
u have uwu in ur name
Welcome to the fromsoft catalogue of games. Yes, you won’t be able to enjoy any other games from now on
what have I done
PLEASE use a controller jesus christ
hmmm...no
@@itsLuwuk just warning you that there are certain maneuvers that you just can't do with mouse and keyboard, like fighting a large enemy while locked off or moving next to something while locked on. The dlc and some end game bosses in particular will punish you for this.
get good
