"Imaginary Lover" was the 2nd of Atlanta Rhythm Section's 2 Top 10 hits. The first was "So Into You" which peaked @ #7 in 1977 and "Imaginary Lover" also peaked @ #7 in 1978.
Love ARS. If you want real baby making music, you need to listen to So Into You. Spooky is another great song. A total vibe with two guitar solos and one keyboard solo
I can't believe they forgot that they already reacted to this band 4 months ago, with "So into you". For a great band you haven't covered yet, I recommend one of the 60's most memorable bands, The Union Gap. "Young Girl" was their biggest hit.
Mylon LeFevre was lead vocals on Imaginary Lover and So Into You. I don’t know if he did any other vocals for them or not. He went on to sing gospel after his stint with ARS. RIP Mylon Lefevre. Died Sept. 8, 2023 of cancer.

Youve done ARS once before, I am SO glad you are finally checking these guys out again! I was a personal friend of the bassist. Paul Goddard... amazing human being. Oh, and amazing bassist! He's in the GA Rock & Roll Haal of Fame for the best live bass solo ever! (Champagne Jam)
I went to school with Paul from the 6th grade thru high school. He was a really good guy. He tried to teach me how to play a guitar but I just don't have any talent.
Went to see them live many times in Atlanta at the Fox Theater and Champagne Jam concerts in the 70’s. Great band and great song. Thanks for bringing back the memories guys!
Been so excited for you to react to this group! They're one of my go to's for relaxing at work!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. All of their songs are fantastic!!!!! Champagne Jam, Not Gonna Let It Bother Me, Spooky and so many more!!!

Great reaction. It doesn’t take much imagination to figure out what this tune is really about. 🤭 At the time word got around that a radio deejay somewhere in the Midwest accidentally played the album version (33 1/3 RPM) at single speed (45 RPM) - faster, obviously -and the listening audience thought it was Fleetwood Mac (Stevie on vocals) !!! I had the album, tried it, and ….TRUE! Wild! I recorded it on cassette and played it for years!! I wish there was someway you two could hear it!!
This song represents anyone who ever fantasized about someone in "that way". If you're lucky, an imaginary lover won't disappoint you, LOL. ARS is a lot of fun to listen to, with some great songs. Happy listening RSR.
Some members of the 60s band, Dennis Yost & the Classics IV, left the band in 1970 to work in recording sessions and form what became the Atlanta Rhythm Section.
Great band from the 70’s. They hosted concerts at Georgia Tech’s Grant Field in 1978 and 1979 called The Champaign Jam. (Named for their song, you’d luv it). I attended the 79 concert. Twelve hours, six bands for $25.00. (25 bucks went a long ways in those days) Line up included Aerosmith, the Cars, A R S and Mother’s Finest ( To me, they stole the show!) Check out Champaign Jam next, great song.
Mothers Finest is so great, I've seen them here in NC about 12 times. They are legendary black metal funk and I've worn out their album, Another Morher Further"
Just listened to an interview with the writer of this song and the one question he gets asked the most is what is the song about. Yes kids, it’s about “self love”.
Welcome to ARS!!! I'm from GA, and I can tell you that they were BIG in the 70s. There are so many songs you should check out. Champagne Jam, Spooky, Doraville (small town vibe),The Ballad of Lois Malone, Large Time, Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight. So many!!! I really hope you explore this band some more. ❤ from GA!!!
OMG! You have got to check out So Into You, Georgia Rhythm, Doraville (which is an Atlanta suburb) Champagne Jam. They had so many hits and such a wide variety of ‘Southern’ rock. They’re from Georgia. Back in the 70s, the hosted a huge New Year’s Eve party called The Champagne Jam. It was THE place to be, kind of like Atlanta’s version of the Times Square party.
My late brother lived in Atlanta in the early ’70’s, and said he got to jam with them a few times 😊 I wish I’d have been old enough to hang with him in those days.
ARS has some of the nastiest, dirtiest, grungiest guitar playing...in a totally great way, that i can recall coming out of the 70's! I'm actually surprised it took this long for you guys to react to them. They were a strong staple in the 70's and could always find their music on radios and juke boxes.
Their song "Spooky" was a big hit which was written by a couple of their members when they were in a previous band, Classics IV. You've done them as well.
"Spooky" was pretty popular too. It was originally done by Classics IV whom, from what I understand contained some members of ARS. The Classics IV version is cool but the Atlanta Rhythm Section version has more kickass harmonizing guitar leads and a cooler vibe.😎
Being from Atlanta, Atlanta rhythm section was huge in these parts! Next song you need to react to is “So Into You”. Everybody would sing this when it came on the radio. And the decade of the 70s had some of the greatest music with all genres making the charts.
Atl Rythm Sec used to headline a big music festival at Ga Tech’s stadium in the late ‘70s. Champagne Jam, with groups like Mothers Finest, Humble Pie etc. Good Music
Seen these guys in concert 3 times. Awesome band from my era growing up. Also listen to Champagne Jam. My older brother and I were at the Champagne Jam in Macon Ga. Amazing outdoor concert!
Great song, great band! One of my faves by them. This song makes me think of a long day at work, you stop off at a bar on the way home, there’s practically nobody in the place, Imaginary Lover is playing on the juke box, you order a bourbon, you call your wife to come join you, she says she’ll be right there, you then notice an attractive woman on the other side of the bar checking you out, you both smile at each other, you’re thinking you still got it, then your wife strolls right up next to you and gives you the biggest hug and kiss, you happen to look across the bar, and the woman is gone, but you don’t care because you realize how good you have it. ✌️
“Champagne Jam” and “Do It or Die” are my favorite ARS songs. They started out as the studio “rhythm section” for artists who would come to Atlanta to record their records. They decided to make their own records.
This song brings back great memories of my 1st concert. It was Summer Jam 78 at the Providence Civic Center in Providence RI. The lineup was Foghat, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, Sweet and ARS. You wouldn't think they would fit into that lineup but they absolutely di d. Just an amazing first concert and I would be remissed not to mention it was on my 16 birthday!
Southern Rock, disco style. I remember hearing this, and So Into You when we'd go to a disco. I saw these guys back in the 70s several times. Once in a little bar, which was probably my favorite performance by them. They would stretch their songs out live, and let the guitarists jam. One of my favorite all time concerts was seeing these guys and Wet Willie. Both bands are so much better live. Check out their song, Another Man's Woman. It's a long jam with a badass bass solo in it.
ARS was formed by original members of a 60s pop group called the Classics IV that had hits with Spooky, Stormy & Sunny. Great songs that each deserve their own reactions. ARS did their own cover of Spookywich, which iis also worthy of a reaction.
When I was a kid growing up in Tennessee in the late 70s, ARS were huge second only to Skynyrd. ARS had a groove that, well all Southern rock (isn't all rock Southern in origin?) has a groove but Atlanta Rhythm Section had a groove that was sultrier and sleeker than their contemporaries. Great choice -- ARS was one of the finest American bands of the late '70s, with a smooth touch of southern blues-infused rock and pop. As others have suggested, next up should be their other Top 10 hit, "So Into You," with a tasty touch of funk. There's also their cover of the '60s hit "Spooky," plus the boogie tunes "Champagne Jam" and "Alien," and the acoustic ballad "Do It Or Die."
