I don't if you already done it yet but in my opinion the best song of theirs is "Champaign Jam" I love all their music but for me that's the cream at the top
ARS guitarist-songwriter JR Cobb and keyboardist Dean Daughtry had been members of the Classics IV when they originally had the hit with this song, and Cobb had co-written "Spooky," so it was kind of cool that they revisited the song in their newer band several years later.
Being from Georgia, I love ARS. They were a phenomenal group, and Ronnie Hammond’s vocals were just perfect. They definitely had Jazz undertones. They had a song, Champagne Jam that was such a big hit, they started having THE CHAMPAGNE JAM weekend-long concert and there were some BIG names that played.

I think it was Greg Carrol on sax. He never played a lot of flash - BUT, his solos were always (pardon the pun) classy - and fit the song perfectly. Underrated player, in my opinion.
I once saw them 3 weekends in a row in 3 different venues. This is my very favorite rendition of "Spooky". Saw them later when my kids were little, blanket seated on the ground family picnic style. When this tune came up, they jumped up and started dancing and soon had everyone around us doing the same.
Dusty Springfield covered this song in 1968. It has a totally different vibe than Classics IV and Atlanta Rhythm Section. Worth checking out on a Female Friday 🌞
The camera and sound for this video were clean. It's so pure you can hear his fingers slide up and down the strings. Piano player, you can listen to the keys hitting and then the strings' tone. I am so glad you both enjoyed this song; they are a smooth band, for sure!
Glad you reacted to "Spooky." I believe this song really brings out and highlights the instrumental talents of this band. Yes, this is a cover of The Classics IV's "Spooky".
They were formed in 1970 in Doraville, GA and are a very underrated band. No autotune, just pure talent. They were part of the Southern Rock movement at that time. Great band, they are still touring. Check out "Champagne Jam" and "Do it or Die."
Jay & Amber, you've now done their 3 biggest hits! Jay & Amber, For a great instrumental, Billy Preston’s “Outa Space”!!! Billy plays several different keyboards on this very funky song!!! You said you wanted to do some instrumentals, and this one will get you out of your chairs!!!!
Oh yes, "Outa Space" would be a great funky '70s instrumental for them, along with "Scorpio" by Dennis Coffey & the Detroit Guitar Band -- there's a great Soul Train dance clip to that song on TH-cam. Another good one is "Hijack" by Herbie Mann.

Ive got the Gold Record that Lynyrd Skynyrd gave Robert Nix for their 1st album. He lost it in a card game believe it or not and I got it from the Card Players Wife :)
This is a 1979 cover of a 1966 Classics IV song, hence the word "groovy" in it, a word that wasn't current anymore in 1979. The original is also really good, more sixties-sounding. This one is really seventies-sounding. This song used to be played sometimes at Halloween. The way they transformed this song reminds me of how Santana redid the Zombies' 1964 hit "She's Not There" in 1977.
Actually Jay & Amber you have done ARS twice before this one "So Into You" & "Imaginary Lover". Many hits for them in the late 70's including "I'm Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight" & "Do It Or Die" but you gotta react to "Champagne Jam" next, Thanks. 😎
I had the privilege to watch these guys play backstage about 18 yrs. ago. Our band was playing at an outdoor festival and we "opened" for them! The musicianship was awesome. Then later my friend told me that they played with the Classics IV in the 60's and he personally knew Dennis Yost. He was a drummer & lead singer. They played on the same circuit at gigs around the Daytona clubs where my friend had met them. Later, when the band split up, a couple of members left and formed ARS, but not Dennis. Check out "Imaginary Lover". Great song! Cheers!
The singer's name is Ronnie Hammond (RIP) who was one of the best ever. Notice that there were 2 totally different types of guitar solos. The main one featured finger-picking style and the other (last one) used block chords. Both guys knocked it out of the park. I heard Dicky Betts say one time that the reason most Southern rock bands had two (or more) guitarists was because of the twin fiddles in the old Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. The Rhythm Section is one of my all-time favorites. Can't go wrong with any of their many selections. As always, another great reaction. Thanks, and Merry Christmas.
