The cheapest airline from Johannesburg to Tanzania is fly Safair from $199 usd. They fly to Zanzibar.

The last time I travelled to Southern Africa, the two mentioned buses were not crossing the Tanzania Zambia border. We had to jump into another bus on the other side, and on the following day.

The bus from Johannesburg to Capetown is as low as 500 rand. And there are so many Backpackers hostels in Capetown for as low as 200 rand a night

For western passport holders From Zambia you can go via Botswana to get to Johannesburg so dont need a Zimbabwe visa $30-$55.

You can also go from Zambia to Namibia then bus to Capetown. The highways in Namibia are great.

No. National ID is allowed in Kenya and Rwanda for Ugandan. Beyond that you need passport
