I'm Steev, I live in Australia, and I just ordered my first ever drone, a Mavic Air 2. I'm so excited about learning to fly and film etc.. oh, btw, I'm 56 so I just hope that I'm not too old to be starting this. ? WAIT A SECOND - Before you get all excited about this drone THERE IS A MAJOR ISSUE: THE BATTERY... This company has made a great product full of features and cool software, but they have FAILED TO TELL YOU that the battery life that they tout as being 30 minutes is AT THE MOST 15 minutes. To make matters worse, their software does not recognize this and hasn't been written with a MANDATORY RETURN TO HOME command that sends the drone back before it FORCES IT TO LAND - like it happened to me when I was flying over the Rio Grand gorge canyon bridge and the drone was forced to land on a vertical 600 foot rock wall that is not accessible to the public and I lost the drone. This MANDATORY RETURN TO HOME would prevent people from wondering how much more fly time they have and simply end the flight and bring their aircraft back safely. I just lost $700 because this company FAILS TO COME CLEAN on how long this drone can fly for - AGAIN - THE BATTERY LIFE IS NO MORE THAN 15 OR 20 MINUTES - but because the battery goes faster when it is windy, or when the camera is being rotated or when a quick flight is initiated it has no way to tell you that. This review should be telling you this! I am infuriated with this product - which otherwise is great. It is like having a good friend... but he is dead - what is the point?
Yea I agree with the camera bug. It does it to me too... special with a video it’ll just be good light and then suddenly dark . And back to normal.
One of the things I have found handy to do prior to flying my Mavic Mini, Mavic 2 Zoom or my Mavic Air 2 is to always think like a real aircraft pilot. File a flight plan in your mind, and prior to sending off the bird, anticipate RTH height, wind velocity checked with an app, and the course of the actual flight itself..ie over buildings, over water, any communication towers along the way. Once the drone is out of sight, never take your eyes off the screen (in my case an Ipad Mini 5), and never take risks just to get a shot that might put danger in the way of the drone. Don't push it into situations that you wouldn't do if your actual butt was on board !! Also, don't take off from any congested space where it will be difficult to land the drone if it is not in your control. And above all, don't push the limits of the battery. Remember, as real pilots say..."altitude is your friend". As a corollary to that I would add..."altitude is your friend and trees are your enemy"....
These little drones are real aircraft just of a different type. Treat them as such. My long dead father who was a jet pilot most of his life always told me..."if you are in a car, and something goes wrong, you stop and roll to the side of the road. If you are in an aircraft, and something goes wrong, there is only one way that things go, and that is down".
Ipad5 mini huh... you must be very proud 👏 not like the others using phones. Especially the people that use Androids 🙄

I got the mavic mini 2 played with it for 1 week and returned it. I found the fly more combo mavic air 2 for 650. No joke. A paawn shop had it brand new and had stickers and all and tags. They had no idea what they had. They sold it as the single one. I had all the accessories as well. Love this drone.

@907nvl - Would you tell it is better than Mini 2? Any flaws so far?
I've had flaws with a brand new mavic air 2. In pre flight check since opening the box and setting up perfectly correctly it says esc error or esc overheating the moment the drone is powered on. It was intermittent at first but then wouldn't ever let me take off at very random times. Had to send it away about 5 days ago. Now its waiting time. Only owned it for a month. Sucks but what can you do

Hey Dan unrelated question about white balance. Do you set white balance in a set or a weeding after al the lights are set up and gels are placed in the lights etc or do you do set white balance before all the lights/ gels etc are set up??
Will it allow you to shoot an auto panorama or a grid of photos in RAW to edit later? Or do I have to shoot them manually?

My mavic air 2 doesn't have any issues.. i bought it by the time the last firmware update came, maybe bugs were fixed.. I don't have that darker video look you have here, nor noisy video etc.

Hey, love your videos. Im debating between a mavic mini and a mavic air 2, mainly with the part about registering with the faa. I have a fishing channel and would like to add some cool drone shots to add some perspective. If I go with the mavic air 2, and am going to use the footage I capture in my youtube videos, would I have to register the drone as a commercial drone? Or can I just register as recreational? Im looking online and getting mixed answers. Would it be better to just go with the mini since I can avoid this whole headache? Thanks in advance :D

Good day, have you noticed that Bypass mode is disable while flying since 1.4.0 update?
Im in 4k 30fps and BYPASS mode is on and is working fine but after a ninutes of flying and i checked settings then SAFETY I saw that BYPASS is disable and cannot be tapped to turn it ON, im forced to land and check still wont be tapped, i turn off the air craft and on again and its there., maybI know your thoughts about this? is it a bug of new update?

As others mentioned below, thanks for posting a very informative video! I am new to the drone world. At 6:30 into the video, you mentioned "at identical settings, it is shooting darker images by one stop". I am so glad you mentioned this! I have watched many Mavic Air 2 videos - and nobody has brought that up (that I know of) until you did. In one particular video, "DJI Mini 2 vs Mavic Air" 2 by Jake Sloan - Jake is shooting in Alaska and at 2:27 uses split-screen to demonstrate and compare the differences between the cameras. That segment and other videos is captions showing comparing the 2 drones. The DJI Mini videos and stills are so much better it is phenomenal! OK, enough about that - you mentioned that to resolve this "bump the ISO up". Will this have to be done every time I start the drone - or can this be set in the DJI Fly app?
Thanks! So if you are using auto for your video and photo settings, the camera will automatically adjust for the fact that it is pulling in less light. If you are shooting manual video, you will just make the adjustment in your video settings

1. In Obstacle sensing, does it consider water as obstacle in case of manual landing ?

One problem that I seem to have is the noisy footage that I am getting. ISO is at 100, yet
I still get noisier videos. I have heard with 4 people who had this issue, sent their drone back, and got a new one, and the issue was fixed. Its weird.
Try set ISO to auto?
Great video! I’m trying to decide between the Air 2 and the 2 Zoom. Would primarily be using it for deer recovery in Kansas during bow hunting season. It can get quite windy up there so my question is do you think the Air 2 can handle windy conditions ok or should I go for the bigger 2 zoom? Also do you know if you can use an iPad for the screen with the Air 2? Thanks
So the Air 2 can definitely handle some pretty big winds. I'm pretty sure the difference is just a couple mph so very close. I'm not sure if you can actually hold a tablet in the controller but I believe there is a 3rd party accessory to allow it.

Hi Dan - 2 Qs: that beach shot at 9:30 was excellent quality (to my untrained eye). Did you do much to it post, or was it straight out the drone that way? Also, the Pro 2 I think has a feature where you take a vid or a hyperlapse and it will track the alt, path etc and you can set it to take the exact same route later on so you can take the same exact vids during night and day. Does the Air 2 have that?

Great vid. Do you ever have issue with the the Air 2 causing your phone screen to darken due to overheating? This has been a big prob for me as I never experience with Mavic 2 pro, Mavic Pro or Phantom series. Any feedback would be appreciated.

have the mini and the air 2 both cap range around 400meters bit of a shame but the technology is cool. Did switch between 2.5 and 5GHZ so i dunno maybe outside interference

Dan, do you experience grainy/noisy footage with the MA2?
No matter what mode I’m in (HDR, Cinelike or Auto) in daylight with ISO at 100 I get noisy footage especially in the shadows. Any advice?
I do but I feel like I have had this on pretty much every drone from DJI. With one of my drones I actually had 2 and both had it so I've accepted it as normal
Dan Watson this video you posted looks amazing and clean. I own a MP2 and I don’t get that grainy footage (shooting during the day with Nd filter) .....well I just ordered another MA2, hopefully the footage comes out as amazing as yours.

What do you do if you have drones over your house how do you find out what they want or what they're doing
There is no way I know of. But keep in mind if it is these small drones, they have super wide angle lenses so they typically can't see details like people or smaller objects unless they are REALLY close

Dan, Thank you for the great instructional videos, I plan to get one soon. My wish list for DJI are side sensors and a flotation device (i.e. expandable small balloon?) for over water flights. Just a wish, it's awesome just as it is!

If not, isn't just data more better a connection regardless of minutes cost. BTW I have only IPhone & IPads. Thank you for the great videos, your time and consideration
@@TakeOffTime it doesn't use data or WiFi it uses Ocusync 2.0 so no cost at all, infact I don't think any drone uses mobile data or WiFi to fly, other drones use a modified WiFi to connect to the controller but not like WiFi in your home.

I love mine, been flying it a few months. I don't know how to get sound at all though.
Doesn't record sound as you would only hear motors buzzing. People add in the sound in post editing. Some choose music some choose sounds to fit the scene.
I.E. flying past a waterfall someone would add the sound of rushing water or something.
Unsure why the 5x dislikes? Great review and had the same issues in urban area with connectivity? Disappointed tbh, thought the ocu was the “dogs”???
