  • 1948 Buescher Top Hat and Cane Tenor! These saxophones are incredibly underrated, truly some of the best hidden secrets of American vintage horns! Large, robust sound that can really be pushed by the player. In addition to the Top Hat and Cane engraving this particular model features the castle scene as well. Snap in resonators present in instrument as well for the traditionalist.

He man I've listened to most of your videos but i think this sax beats all the selmers and conns, i think it is simply the best sax I've ever heared you playing! It's got everything and more! Why is it that i hardly see people playing these saxes and why are people going crazy for the 10ms and M6es, whilst theses saxes are also still around?

Thanks John. you play great I've loved listening to your videos especially during lockdown! I love your sound but I suspect you would sound just as good on the chair leg no matter what the horn is!!! - God bless - Bill - UK

Like no other!! GORGEOUS sound...Maybe one of the best I've heard out of a vintage tenor. And the original owner sold it to you. :) I'd hold onto it.
What mouthpiece/reed did you pair it with? Nice room acoustics too. Matters for any good recording.

Buescher TH&C has such a gorgeous, sumptuous sound, like no other tenor. This is the Rolls Royce of tenor saxophone sound. And I think it is a crime to play it by chasing "bebop scales acrobatics", up and down. It is made for playing the best sound possible, the best subtones possible, not for the acrobatics (which can be done on any other lesser horn).

I think it can do both lol, bebop is just as beautiful as the sub tones. Don’t gatekeep jazz

@@duncancofell8960 What you use to transport bricks and cement: a Rolls Royce or a pickup truck? The problem with young man in the video is that he can chop quick scales, at a speed that make them sound the same on any saxophone. But he lacks skills and experience to play ballads, and squeeze out nuances of the tone, which the TH&C can control and deliver more than most saxophones. So he is using a wrong approach, not demonstrating what a specific instrument CAN really do better. Got it?

@@zvonimirtosic6171 I absolutely disagree with you. You have never heard him play then. He can play beautifully over ballads and shred bebop, and it’s important to demonstrate both in a play test. If you cannot gather how great this horn sounds from the video clip, then you have much more to learn. Also the horn sounds fantastic- but he will sound great on any horn he plays. Put a middle schooler on this horn and it’ll sound not so great. You overestimate the instrument.

@@duncancofell8960 Few players play ballads well. With a few notable exceptions, that's not where Americans are good at anymore. Buying TH&C to run bebop scales, or for the R'n'R, is a waste of instrument and a waste of money. That's all I wanted to say.
